One of the best tutorials of anything I’ve seen on here! Very impressive the way you do things!
This is an amazing explanation. Thank you so much and please don’t quit. I’m subscribed!
I learned a lot. The loveless nuts to hold the scales together was a good idea. Plus the 45 degree jig really simplifies things
excellently exposed - very helpful
Awesome!!! Love seeing how your knives come together!!!
What a great video! Really great job! Thanks for all those detailed advices!

Nice video mate really easy to understand and great information
About to put handle on my first knife. Thanks, I wish I had your shop and tools.
These videos feel like the best college ever.
Great idea using the 1/2/3 blocks, Excellent, thank you
Thanks a lot I have lot in the workshop and use them for some many tasks can’t live without them now 👍
I would call them 1/3/5 blocks.
bloody hell mate, that seems super simple
Parabéns muito bem explicado .
great video, checking out the other ones, too. Learnin a lot
Propper worker hands them pal great vid!
Watching your knife making videos makes me wanna get one of yours knifes. Needs to check if u ship to Poland
Great video, really perfected building process.
Just wondering how traditional knife making worked without epoxy
well done
Thanks glad you enjoyed it cheers Ben
Great video as always Ben. I cant help but worry about your hands! Get yourself some o'keeffe working hands. I find it really helps 👍
new subscriber...
Such a clear explanation. Thankyou.
Do you run workshops?
I’m making my first knife as we speak. I’m definitely going to make a similar jig for the 123 block. I’m assuming it’s just a magnet bar glued or taped on a piece of wood and the 123 block stick to the magnet for spacing. I also love the jig you made for the grinder to grind in the top of you scales. What angle/degree is the piece of wood cut too?
Me having already bought the knife blank thinking this was going to be a fun DIY project: O_O
Nice video Ben. Not directly related but do wonder, why do you not put a choil on your blades to help with sharpening to the edge?
Question?
This might sound a bit silly but would it hurt the result in going through the grits if one were to keep the pins in the handle
So just give it a flip and keeping it in line with the pins.just thinking. Really enjoying your video’s. Thank so much for sharing!
Cheers!
Great video ! Any tips for drilling a set of antler scales 🙈
Brilliant video - just the right length and level of detail, thank you!
Is there a reason you don’t use Corby bolts so that you don’t get the concentric ring look, or do you just prefer it?
Just found your answer!

Hi What a perfect explanation i’m a fan of your Channel witch gflex glue are you using ? Thanks
I wonder why they don’t do the bolts as a pozidrive or torx? I would think they would be easier and safer to drive then and since he head gets ground off anyway it wouldn’t make any difference to the appearance?
I laugh at the amount of pillar drills you´ve got........ but that´s just my envy laughing!
Excelent video! Do you have the design for public print? Thanks!
amazing work bro... your work is so fine i just cant believe that i did some work on knife scales i m sure you wanna check that out. i did my work without any power tools.. thanks in advance..!
What is a choir? Took French for three years in HIGH School but never ran across this word. Saw it once in an article with no explanation clear
enough to make sense.
Did You make videos about diffrent grinds and knife shapes and correspondig characteristics? For examply any thoughts about scandi grinds, their relation to the knifes width and corresponding performances?
With what drill you make holes on guard same as thickness of the knife or smaller?
your sanding belt on your 2 x 72 grinder in backwards. it has an arrow on the inside for the direction
Is it at all possible to make this without those professional drills? All I have are handheld drills and a ken onion belt grinder. One of my knives' handle is coming apart, and I'm wondering if I can fix it.
Is there a video for the gluing and shaping parts of this?
It's a nice video & a fun watch, but... I'm trying to learn how to make a knife handle and all the videos have very specific tools that most people don't have access to. Anyone know of a video showing a simpler way to make a full tang knife handle?
Como é chamado esses pinos fixador. Obrigado
What do You think about the knifes balance reguarding the little holes You drill in order to make the epoxy have more surface conecting the blade and the handle? Totally irrelevant for handling the knife, I guess..?
Where did you get your shirt? Love it
What do you use to chamfer the holes?
I would like to buy one of your knives! Where do I find them?
Hi Ben, do you mind sharing the knife stencil/layout in pdf?
What sort of drill bits do you use for drilling wood?
Any normal twist drill will work. The harder cobalt ones work better but I tend to use carbide these days due to drilling a lot of man made materials like micarta and g10 and they stay sharp for a long time 👍
Belt direction cracked up.
Shirt: Eat. sleep. bushcraft.
Newbie here. What is the liners purpose? Thank you
No problem, well they do have a gasket effect when added to the knife, helping the bond between the handle material and the tang. Vulcanised fibre is the same material as used as a gasket in your engine of your car.
Basically they help with any slight movement of a natural handle material and the steel, But I would say 80% is really the overall look of the knife handle. Hope that helps explain it for you. Many thanks cheers Ben
@@BenOrford thanks
What make and model grinder do you use and where could I get one?
Sir, please help me with this. The scales require 2 x holes to be drilled in the tang but most of knives like this one have 4-5 un-necessary holes drilled. Why is that? wouldnt that make the tang weak? This is so irritating and annoying. A blade should be solid piece tip to pommel with minimum holes.
These extra holes help balance the whole knife but also allow the glue to make a better bond on the handle too.
These holes will not weaken the strength of the tang as there’s still more steel and also being round there’s no stress risers on a round chamfered hole.
Hope that helps
cheers Ben
@@BenOrford thanks for detailed reply
You don’t need a c clamp, you don’t need a block. All you need is a drill press vise. That is what its for. So you don’t have to hold the piece you’re drilling into. It holds the pieces together and holds them still as you drill.
Thanks for the comment. Sure if you find that works for you then that cool. Not sure how that will help hold the blade secure to the handle material though? This is a simple system that works well and for most folks is a simple way to get great results 👍
knoife
U just complicated with those 3 same drills...
Sorry do you mean the three holes in the middle of the handle? These are for weight reduction and glue bonding 👍
No,i mean 3 same drilling machines, changing drill bits takes few seconds, but steps nicely explained all in all...
@@heric.4428 I have about 7 pillar drills with all different drill bits. When your into production saving time on changing tooling is a real key 👍 glad you enjoyed it.
After saying be careful not to scratch the handle with the screw driver what does he do...scratches the handle with the screwdriver lmao!!
When we said don’t scratch the handle it was the front of the scales that are finished. The sides get ground off to shape so that doesn’t matter.
