Thank you for the helpful information! Had to set up a vcenter server in a hurry after using servers separately for a while and this video helped a lot!
Very good, glad i found your tutorials. Please keep up the great work! Basic functional lab is my goal. NSX environment in order to create and deploy third party visibility VM's per host and direct east/west traffic via a tunnel to app, security and network tools.
Yes you can definately run some complex NSX environments within a lab environment. I've just completed a Layer 2 stretch across datacenters using 2 differenct vcenters and NSX. All this was done in my lab before deploying to production.
Very clear, but please indicate in the beginning what the requirements are. In this case that SSO is required for this to work. I just have a lab setup in my den on an isolated network so I don't worry about that requirement. So now I have to uninstall all of this and install vSphere and setup my AD to also have ADFS.
Excellent video! Any references for migrating production vCenter settings to a development one without causing conflicts between the two? They have to be on the same network and we want to clone the production one...and obviously I dont want to conflict with the production enviroment.
Hi Timothy, yes, firstly is your dev environment isolated somewhere ? I would perform a VCSA backup, and then restore that backup into a new vcsa in your dev environment. Or you could use something like veeam to backup the source vm, and then restore it into a dev environment.
My VCSA could not install, it was stuck in 80% and show me a error password is not set and RPM installation failed. What can i do? i did all like you did.
I have a question. I installed esxi 6.5, but when I try to install windows, windows doesn't says that there is no harddrive to install on. Do you know what the problem is?
Hi! Can you help me? In step 2 when I configure server IP address, user name and password the step doesn't advance do step 3. A message appears saying "connection time out". Apparently the connection between the host ESX and the my client not being established. Tks!
I've just installed vCenter Server 6.5 and installation went bit different way, there were no network settings to select during the installation, the system user settings were different too.. strange
I follow the instruction to install VCSA successfully. But when I use chrome to login vsphere web client, in the Navigator block, it keeps loading. I tried many times and also restart VCSA, but it still not works well. Now I really have no idea about that. Does anyone knows why?
Excellent explanation! Thank you for making this video, i need your help. i am struggling to install vCenter Appliance 6.5 in my home lab environment and setup is getting stuck on 80% (installing RPM this may take several minutes...). plz plz help me on this to short-out this issue.
Hi 2SlowMusic, do you mean what ip address and gateway do you enter in ? That would be up to you, and depends on your network configuration where you are installing your vcenter server.
Is there an easier way of accessing multiple exsi 6.5 host? That doesn't require a domain or active directory. I created a second exsi server and need to move some virtuals to that machine from my other exsi machine
You would use vcenter server, I have a video on how to install and configure it with multiple esxi hosts. Active directory is optional, vcenter server has its own build in authentication.
If you just need to move servers over, you can try VMware converter, it's free. You can even use Veeam Backup and Recovery Free Edition to perform a backup and restore. You could also use vcenter server as a trial if you only need to move the servers once off.
Paragon Protect & Restore Software lets you copy and then push VMs between hosts and it is free. I have not tried it but some of my friends have and I hear it works fairly well.
Hi Sundeep, minimum requirement is tough because you always want to run more vm's in your lab :) I started off years ago with VMware Workstation on my home pc. I then bought 2 x Dell R710's and a Synology 4 bay nas. Since then I've upgraded to Dell R620's and a Synology 8 bay nas. The switching is all done by a Cisco 3750G
You can use IP address if you want, I would make sure you can ping the host by SSH to the vcenter server, login as root and then run a ping to the ESXi host
Very good. I printed & skimmed the 350 pages of vSphere Installation & Setup but could not get into my appliance when I was all done? &^%^&$%^. Then I watched your video and I saw my very simple mistake and that was the username is in the form of an email address. Thank you ever so much.
Hello its a nice tutorial.. but i am new user of vSphere 6.5 . you explain a home lab situation in tutorial.. if you have any logical diagram of that home lab...How can i get.. that diagram it will help me a lot. ...

Thank you, this is very nice guide.
I have a question. I installed esxi 6.5, but when I try to install windows, windows doesn't says that there is no harddrive to install on. Do you know what the problem is?
Thank you very informatives
I never use appliance for my vCenter. so is it just monitoring the esxi and vCenter server?
To be good if you enlarge the focused area while recording the screen , Thanks
Thanks for the recommendation, I have been zooming in on specific areas in my latest videos
Great share thank you very much !!
Hi! Can you help me? In step 2 when I configure server IP address, user name and password the step doesn't advance do step 3. A message appears saying "connection time out". Apparently the connection between the host ESX and the my client not being established. Tks!
How did you know what was your system name at 3:33
Why create a dedicated network just for storage?
I've just installed vCenter Server 6.5 and installation went bit different way, there were no network settings to select during the installation, the system user settings were different too.. strange
Hi eadmin, what version of 6.5 are you installing and are you installing it into a VM ? What settings were different ?
Can the appliance be used with Essentials ?
Hi Kurt yes it can. You still enter a license the same as a windows vcenter.
I follow the instruction to install VCSA successfully. But when I use chrome to login vsphere web client, in the Navigator block, it keeps loading. I tried many times and also restart VCSA, but it still not works well. Now I really have no idea about that. Does anyone knows why?
can you show how to install and configure update manager ? thanks
how to get the correct and perfect appliance download ... I've downloaded many of appliances and none of'em worked
Hi Yousef, what is the issue when you try to use the ISO file ?
Excellent explanation! Thank you for making this video, i need your help. i am struggling to install vCenter Appliance 6.5 in my home lab environment and setup is getting stuck on 80% (installing RPM this may take several minutes...). plz plz help me on this to short-out this issue.
Hi Raj, if it's stuck on 80% it usually means you have an issue with DNS, have you setup forward and reverse DNS for your vcsa name ?
@@sysadmintutorials is any other solution if dns not configured in network
Hi GC Technoman, are you experiencing the same issue ? One of the installation requirements for VCSA is a working DNS server.
how do you find the IP address, Gateway and server?
Hi 2SlowMusic, do you mean what ip address and gateway do you enter in ? That would be up to you, and depends on your network configuration where you are installing your vcenter server.
sysadmintutorials thank you!
how to change the domain of vSphere ?
Hi Gopal, you can change the domain but you would need to create a new SSO and join your existing vcenter server to it
Is there an easier way of accessing multiple exsi 6.5 host? That doesn't require a domain or active directory. I created a second exsi server and need to move some virtuals to that machine from my other exsi machine
You would use vcenter server, I have a video on how to install and configure it with multiple esxi hosts. Active directory is optional, vcenter server has its own build in authentication.
sysadmintutorials cheapest vcenter sever license is $560. Is there a cheaper option?

Hi , Can you please provide me the minimum required hardware config to setup a lab such as yours .

I want use ip adress and not fqdn name for a new host but I can't create it, error connecting, do I need to have windows server for fqdn names?
You can use IP address if you want, I would make sure you can ping the host by SSH to the vcenter server, login as root and then run a ping to the ESXi host
