    THANKS for not skipping over the DNS setup required steps. I think you can and should break those out in text form in the description (step by step) or include a link to a PDF or blog post about it. I've seen other similar posts elsewhere on-line. Basically its a missing part of documentation and just assumes that one knows how to do this, but in many cases people learning for VCP-DCV are also beginners with AD and Windows Server, and the DNS setup steps may not be obvious. Thanks for taking the time to go over your approach and recommended practices.

    repeating the same question as this is my confusion also. Should i install the vcenter and configure DNS on my own desktop or on Windows Server Separately?
    I tried to install on a VM with a downloaded ISO file VMware-VCSA-all-6.7.0-10244745, but when I attach the ISO to VM at boot, it is complaining a FATAL Error as "No Bootable media found! System Halted."

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials  5 років тому

      If you are configuring vcenter VSCSA (Virtual Appliance), you first mount the ISO on a windows machine, go into My Computer and browse into the CD/DVD drive. From within there you run the installer.exe file. The VCSA iso file is not a bootable file. Follow my instruction from 2:52 into the video.

    Any chance of a video detailing configuring iSCSI and load balancing connections? (I've heard ESXi doesn't like trunking and want MIOP).
    Love your videos and would love to see more in depth ones about organizing things (good and bad habits), naming schemes, hierarchies, way to install and configure misc related services (I have yet to watch your VRealize video). Also if possible, more on vGPU config and usage.

      @@sysadmintutorials there are steps missing here. I'm not sure what it is yet. however, it seems to be with DNS. it may because video assumes that you already have an existing infrastructure in place. however, even with standing up an ad server and creating forward and reverse lookup zones, it seems Microsoft doesn't play well with the DNS. I'm going to try and stand up a bind DNS server and try that... I have stood up a brand new 2019 server for the sole purpose of installing vCenter. the lack of documentation for this is ridiculous. it would have been helpful for VMWare to state more clearly that YOU MUST LICENCE THE VCENTER BEFORE THIS WILL WORK, after 8 installs reading errors about bad downloads and installs and ISO was corrupted. the 8th or 9th time I installed this I licensed the ESXi server. then and only then was I able to get past the 80% mark that I had previously frozen at 8 times. after this I was finally able to proceed past step one and into step two only to run into another error with that some forums point to a problem with DNS. here is where I am at currently after 72 consecutive hours. What if you are currently running vCenter 6.7 windows server? Do you just shut it down and set up a new 6.7 VCSA? The migrations tool VMware offers does not support migration from 6.7 to 6.7 vmsa.

    • @sysadmintutorials
      @sysadmintutorials  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, currently that migration path is not supported however you have 2 options: 1. wait for the next release of vcenter i.e. 7 and then you should be able to upgrade and migrate to vcsa. 2. Build a new VCSA, export your dvs config if you are using distributed switches and re-import it into your new VCSA. If you haven't done this before I would build a small lab to simulate how you have it now, build the new vcsa 6.7 and then test that everything you need comes across ok.

      you need to enter the licenses you purchased into vcenter, you will then be able to re-join your esxi hosts. When you re-join the esxi hosts, it will ask you which license you wish to apply, since the eval license has expired.

      Thank you, I want to cover as much as I could because in the past I have done quicker videos but then people comment saying why didn't you cover this or why didn't you cover that. It's hard to please everyone so I thought more content would be better and you can skip through to the sections you're interested in.
