Spot on mate !! Just finished to reading up on the old north & started looking up what came before the Post Roman kingdom of Bryneichn. From the Tyne myself so always a pleasure to see some local history.

I'm proud to come from Tranent, very close to Traprain Law (Haddington). I've been living in England since 2013, but I'm currently back up in Scotland visiting old sites around East Lothian, such as Tantallon Castle. This video served as a great refresher. I highly recommend "The Makers of Scotland: Picts, Romans, Gaels and Vikings" by Tim Clarkson. It's rather dense at times but well worth the read.

So, were Edinburgh and Yeavering Bell lesser forts than Traprain Law for the Votadini?
Did the Romans build their own forts near any of these sites prior to the withdrawal back to Hadrian's Wall?
It seems odd to me that, much later, AS Bernicians seem to have used Yeavering as a capitol, if TL had been known to be the Votadini capital.
Loved this video. I wish that, at some point, you would cover that same area in the sub-Roman period......? And eg Coel Hen, the Coelings, 'Y Gododdin', Cunedda(?), etc...
    Thank you. 🤗

Hi there. 'Traprain' is pronounced as if the 'rain' as in 'train'. so 'Tra-Pray-en'. Least that's what the locals around here call it (I can see Traprain Law from the end of my road).

Not a big Roman fan either. Nice to know that my Celtic ancestors lived in extensive family units like my Native American ancestors used to as well.

Regarding the Parisii Check out Skipsea Castle, I suspect that was their Capital. Especially look at Lidar of the area.

I find the northern tribes interesting, both the Brigantes and Parisii have connections beyond the shores one in Ireland the other in France I figure it’s coincidence but it’s an interesting one

The Votadini were a Latin speaking tribe in Scotland which migrated to North Wales and remained a distinct culture there until 1282. Many North Welsh are the descendants of the Roman British who spoke a Latin dialect until the 1300s.

The tribe you are discussing were not pre-Roman. They later became known as "Lowland Scots."

That's false. These are the founders of Gwynedd. Their descendants were largely concentrated in Wales.
