Discovered your channel last year, because it was my first year trapping. I dont have access to water trapping just yet. But seeing this video gives me an idea on how to make floats for muskrats. Keeping it simple. Thanks!

It doesn't take a whole lot to get started.

Great videos folks. I love fall rat trapping with floats. I use 4'-6' bamboo stakes to secure my floats.

Great Video, I'm a new Trapper and it would be really awesome if you could make a few vids on what signs to look for in ponds and creeks for Muskrat trapping on private lands, and for Damage control. :)

Wow .. I was going ask how many rats you catch per year but heard your friend does well. I was never in a good area to catch rats but I’m in a good area now. Crazy prices per rat as I abandoned trapping for decades and started back two years ago. I’m in Maine. You catch many black phase rats out there?
Do you eat your rats? Otter is the best tasting game meat I ever had. Highly recommend it to anyone reading this. I just put the meat in a crockpot and also pickle it in raw organic cow milk kefir. I love it in the kefir and the meat was raw.

We do not catch any black color phase rats. We are not so lucky! I would be extremely careful about eating raw meat especially with how common things like guinea worms are. Smoked muskrats are quite the delicacy!

Another Awesome Video!! Thank You! You've got to have the best wife on the planet! Falls in a water hole and still toughs out the rest of the set! Another good thing about your videos is the ads. They don't hang out at the bottom of the screen where you have to click on them to close them. And you're not forced to watch them you can FF if you don't want to watch. Good Stuff! The dryer thing was an AWESOME idea...lol!! Trapper Ingenuiety!

I have never had any luck with floats here in Wisconsin. I tried them in lakes, rivers and streams. For some reason I still have not given upon them though. you going thru them cattails has me thinking of a spot i found many years ago.

+Sam Wood Outdoors Floats work well here but in truth there are over a dozen good ways to catch rats. We will show a couple of more techniques this season.

I trap mostly runs and do pretty well on baited conibears. here in Wisconsin it is illegal to trap in push ups and feeder huts

I checked a ditch. It didn't have any rat sign. So I set a couple mink cubbies. Got a rat in both

It is 2024 now and I am enjoying the show, I wonder how your 'rat population is now, we lost our population a few years ago from viruses, hope it is better your way.
