20 years ago I recorded a bird mimicking a car alarm from my bedroom widow in the morning doing all the varied sounds in order one after another. I wish I still had that recording !
Meanwhile, my crow-friend keeps stealing other birds’ nests at my front door, and leaves a black feather like a mobster’s calling card. It all started when I gave her/him a few blueberries. Soon after, the nests and tail/wing feathers started showing up; I have a collection of nests in a basket on my front porch, lol.
In the U.S., we have the beloved Catbird that mimics any sound from trains on tracks to babies laughing to Fire trucks. They and the Mockingbird keep the daytime hours full of random excitement.
I had a cockatiel that when young i would keep repeating the telephone ringing to it, i swear he eventually fooled my parents one time when he started ringing mum would come running in and then realise its just the bird, the other one used to whistle and the dogs would come running, i miss those beautiful pets, i remember having my bird with me when i travelled in the car. It was on the passenger seat and 1 lady came up said that was unusual me travelling with my bird next to me

The Scimitar Horned Oryx was very recently downgraded from Extinct in the wild to Endangered, skipping Critically Endangered altogether because of human efforts to revive the species. That’s a good thing! Also the Eagle. When I was little it was rare to see one, now thanks to conservation efforts it feels like we can’t go five feet without tripping over one where I live. I’ve even got two mated pairs living two streets down from me

Omgoodness I love birds so much. Nature is spectacular. A Mockingbird in my neighborhood brings the biggest smile to my face and my heart softens.
