@@thescatman5029 It does not matter how many steps the ball carrier has in this case. It only matters that the defender has legal guarding position. He gains this by having both feet on the floor, and facing his torso towards the ball carrier. He does this even before he slides sideways out from behind the other offensive player. Once a player has legal guarding position, he is allowed to move in any direction but towards the ball carrier. He is allowed to move sideways into the ball carrier's path.

Whether one thinks a charge should have been called in that spot or not, bottom line is that Coach B cost his kids a chance to win this game. One can debate all day whether this was the right call or not. Even with the charge call CUSE would have still had a chance to win this game. Coach B cost his team a chance to win this game by getting the Tech Fouls. Great to have passion for the game and to defend your kids, but obviously you gotta show more self-control than that. Mind you, I love Coach B, but that's a moment I'm sure he'd like to have back.
That’s a great call from a great referee. His feet were indeed set and his hands were straight up. His hands did not come down. That was indeed a charge/player control foul.
Watch it again. The Duke player was leaning to get the contact and the Syracuse player was trying to avoid the contact. No call or even a blocking foul on Duke . It was not an offensive foul.
Watch the Duke player lean to initiate contact as the Syracuse player is sliding past avoiding contact. Definitely not a charge but Duke is use to getting all the calls.
@@Christopher-jk9bj That’s not the rule. Legal guarding position must be established, the defender may then move sideways, backwards, or obliquely to maintain LGP. There is no requirement for the defender to keep his feet stationary.
