    can you do a video on how you'd like Savate to be promoted? If you had a Nike or adidas budget how would you like the world to be introduced to this beautiful European martial art? Merci

    Hello James! Very nice to finally meet you in Slovenia at the Youth Worlds Championships. (Even though it was awkwardly done at the buffet) I have a couple of questions for you. Could you give an explanation on how not get called for not having the proper angle or execution for the fouetté? And final question, could you do a video on some counters for when your opponent is hopping towards you with their lead leg chambered? Thank you!

    This may be short for a video, but very meaningful. Still do my toe kicks, but i was wondering the amount of damage it would do should i use it out of training. The only move that i used at work should a person become aggressive to me is the Chasse, very effective to stop and subdue these kinda people. More power to you guys at London savate! ...i don't think i wanna try shoe juggling though, might hit me on the head. I want those shoes 😂

    I am curious that is that too much pressure for the toe to kick your target, I find it very difficult to land kicks using ordinary shoes. Thank you!

    If you practiced savate for self-defense purposes and street self-defense in general outside of the sport version what type of shoe would you recommend as far as Footwear for adapting savate to street self-defense?

    Looking to grab my first pair of savate shoes. Do you recommend sizing up?

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  Рік тому

      That's going to depend more on you than on a general answer, I think. Check with the company you purchase from first, but I don't think there is a consistent over/under sizing to consider. You neither want to rub your toes nor leave empty space, but that's no different from any shoe purchase.

    Curious question, what is the best type of savate shoe to use on heavybag? Im mainly MMA/HEMA guy but I love training toe kicks.

    • @LondonSavate

      I've ripped up several this way. Now I'd buy a cheaper boxing boot for this punishment and accept it won't have a long life. Don't want to damage good boots on bag work.

    I have one about the toe kicks. Is there a difference between extending the toes forward (ballet style) and pulling the foot back so that the foot is cocked at 90 degrees to the leg? Are they both legal? I have seen both taught . I have heard the toe kicks called "pique" in french once, but im not very familiar with this word especially if its close to the English version and wondering if that is a term for all toe kicks?

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  Рік тому

      The rules for fouetté state it is done 'in extension', meaning the ankle, so that requires toe flexed, although you would not often see this being policed. Piqué - with the accent - meaning 'stung', refers more to the result of the kick. Should you connect with a small enough toe portion , especially to solar plexus, you can sting an opponent.

      @@LondonSavate Thanks for the reply. I just realized that it appears much of the technique names seems to come from Ballet. Fouette (with acent), Chasse and even chasse italien are all ballet names and techniques ..and now pique . was this a tip of the hat to the stretching masters, coincidence or does French lack good terminology for physical movements?

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  Рік тому

      Not just for physical movements. French has around 100k words vs 500k or more in English. www.eupedia.com/europe/missing_words_french.shtml

    • @JohnJohnson-pq4qz
      @JohnJohnson-pq4qz Рік тому

      @@LondonSavate Yes, although it sure does not seem like it, with that wordy complex grammar...lol. But still why ballet terminology? Fencing has a well developed french vocabulary and its more combative that ballet it would seem, but does not seem to have as much influence on the terminology.

    Looking at these, I can't help but be curious as to why some kinds of kicks are legal and others not.

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  Рік тому +1

      Good question, but I always think that's so the styles may remain distinct. Permit every kick and there is no point learning or competing in Savate as distinct from thai, K!, kickboxing , etc.

      @@LondonSavate At least one Savate author from the early 20th century says that coup de pied de pointe, a front snap kick with the toe, has been banned in competition for "a long time" due to it being unsafe though teaches it as a valuable kick for defense in the street. That might explain why at least kicks with too much upward angle are banned.

    • @LondonSavate
      @LondonSavate  Рік тому +1

      @@TheVulgarSkill for the same reason that sees strikes to the groin banned from most competitive martial arts for considerations of safety, you can make this case. But that does not explain it for Savate in particular. I favour the argument that Savate kicks are all 2-phase: arming and execution. Hence the small pause or waypoint in a fouetté, absent from a roundhouse, say. This also may explain why an interior revers is illegal, but not an exterior one; it helps with understanding proper form and rhythm, hence it is one I particularly like, and might be the subject of a future video.
