Our Journey! How did we get here?
In the winter of 2019 we moved in to our self built van full time to begin living, working and travelling Canada. We quickly fell in love with chasing our dreams of adventuring off the beaten path, living off grid and being self sustaining. We drove our van thousands of miles through various countries-Canada, USA, Mexico & Guatemala. All of which we documented here on our channel, be sure to check that out! After many years on the open road we found ourselves 15 acres of remote woods on the East Coast of Canada where we are building a homestead and renovating our fully off the grid cabin. We are diving into this chapter of our lives in no experience, we're so happy we can bring you all along as we learn to do it all with our own two hands. does anyone know a thing or two about building homes out of cement?? How about construction IN THE DESERT? this is something we have been working on for months, saving and dreaming about for years. As we said at the end of the video this is a very planned and future thinking decision that will take many months to start- BUT we cannot wait to begin this new chapter & project 💛 Thank you for coming along on our journey through life we couldn’t do this without you xx

My wife and I moved to San Antonio Rocha - Uruguay in August 2022, to retire on our own private beach. Concrete construction is the standard here and having spent the previous 10 years in a large log house in a cedar forest in Cherryville BC. I have been watching you guys for several years and can suggest strongly that if you can find a house that is close to what you want do it. Starting from scratch has so many potential downsides from workers and quality of work to permits to red tape. The best part is enjoying it now, like you did in Canada. Make it your own once you are on the ground, referral is the best way forward with reno's repairs get to know the locals take your time. We live on an acre on an empty beach. Best from UY

You also need to look at makinging it as earthquake proof as you can.
If you're getting one of the lots, you may want to look into Earthships: built with recycled tires, recycle your greywater (grow your own banana trees, etc inside), natural ventilation, captures rainwater, mostly storm proof. Many were built in the desert southwest US. Good luck ladies!
Also look into haybale houses.

OMG, earth ships are amazing and definitely in tune with the way you want to live. The energy efficiency is amazing. The question is, how easy is it access potable water? I think that you ladies can take on any projects.
Welcome to Baja, my husband & I have been living down here for 11 years in San Felipe, on the Sea of Cortez, and love it. My husband is a retired contractor so he was able to do al lot with our home as far as fixing things on our existing home like plumbing and electrical as they weren't anywhere close to code. But thats Mexico. No complaints. It's quite a challenge and very different to build a block house. My husband will be happy to answer any questions you might have.

San Felipe is a magical place. I haven't been there since my Hobie Cat sailing days. I have good memories of the first fish tacos I tried...and of the tamales that the "tamale lady" delivered right to my "hamaca" under the palapa at my campsite just a few steps from the gulf. 🙂

be very careful about location as in many locations getting basic services is very difficult. Also understanding what "Hurricane season" means and having access to a very honest and reliable contractor to help, even though I know you are both completely capable of building it on your own, that will be important in navigating the challenges of doing business there for materials etc...

Wondering what happened to the Nova Scotia property with the rotted cabin adjacent to the original acreage. I was anticipating that would be the basis for generating new content. One of the difficulties in basing UA-cam followers, views and membership around builds is that eventually the build matures and there is less and less to redo, add on to, remodel. etc. Shifting to an entirely new area with a completely different build challenge is the obvious choice, but it stands to reason why you chose this new place as you already had plenty of experience living in Baha and loved the lifestyle and people.
The question remains about what you decide to do with the Nova Scotia properties. That and Baha are like complete opposites, to the point of ultimately stretching yourselves too thin trying to maintain both over time. Let's face the fact that a property not lived in is a property that can degrade. Plus, the fact that traveling between the two places is kind of a logistic pain with two large dogs. And this world gets a little bit smaller every year which brings its own challenges of security while away. Living in Baha also doesn't present the challenges of the isolation that was part of living in Nova Scotia.
They took our money-lived the high lfe and a e now crediting a real Estate Agent with making this happen-they ghosted their Subscriers(employers) for weeks on end-try that with a real-life employer. They are grifters!

what Pont having cabin in Canadian not there winter months. WOW I guess they can't handle the cold maybe they should move to Mexico full time.
I haven't see the entire video yet but the property that has all of the landscaping/existing structure seems like a winner - soo much time saved and you can spend your time doing the parts that personalize the space, etc. but still have shelter/privacy and food from the onset.
It's a great place but it would need year round care. I suppose they could hire someone to help out when they aren't there.
It is great to watch your evolution. It is amazing your passion for building and truly enjoying off grid live. Please consider that security is a longer issue in Mexico compared with Canada, specially you have some sort of public life and people might get from public sources your whereabouts. Enjoy!! I'm confused. You have spent years rebuilding the cabin and property, then bought the property next door. NOW you are moving thousands of miles and another country away. !?? Where do you get all the money? You have every tool and machine in the universe and now you are moving to a barren beach? I don't get it. If you have sold the cabin property this would make sense. Sorry, but i have watched you a long time and this really seems like an unexpected turn. What gives?
They are not leaving the cabin. Mexico is only for the winter season.

Does nobody else think this is problematic? You guys are great, but with all due respect, Canadians & Americans buying up property in Mexico is a huge issue regarding displacing locals and making housing unaffordable for them.
The problem also lies with UA-camrs with a large following literally advertising these unique ‘once hidden’ cherished areas.
I was just there for 3 wks and it doesn’t need more hype.
The problem is global. Foreign buyers have also bought up Canadian property and made it unaffordable for regular people who were born and raised there. Just because you’re born somewhere doesn’t mean you have to stay there.
Omg, give me a break. You’re just jealous you can’t do it. They aren’t displacing anyone.

Exciting!!!!! We left Montana this winter and its been fun being warm in Feb! We have been doing long-term rentals from AZ to Cali..Its been great and so many people have allowed our pet! I loooove the RV park. But i somehow think you bought land and building something. But those mature gardens and fruit trees would be hard to pass up especially with the houses having so much potential.
Yeah, I thought they bought the former RV park. They could have done so much with that and would have been packed with van lifers all the time with the social media connections. I never did get what lot they ended up buying. .

Good luck with this because it's really difficult to own land in Baja.❤ years ago back in the 80s I was a young songwriter musician with financial backing, living in Hollywood. I took a trip with a friend to Rosorito Baja Mexico. I rented a beach bungalow and never wanted to return to the US. The beach and the magic of Baja was wonderful. I said just leave me here with my guitar and a tape recorder forever!!! Lol😂❤ Now Rosorito is a built up tourist mess. Riding horses into the beach sunset is too crowded. But! I wouldn't mind retiring in Lower Baja today. But even Baja has gotten expensive. Everyone falls in love with Baja but they've made it very difficult to live there permanently. You'll find out but I wish you two a miracle!😂❤🏳️🌈PS: desert building is fun. I've lived in a living desert ghost town for years in Mohave Desert Of Ca. You can build your greenhouses strong and solar/ water operated. Learn to know where the sun shines different times of the year. Note that nothing and I mean nothing gets completed in Baja. Lol. If something is plumbed??? Why is it not finished? There is water issues in Baja and funny laws that don't allow " gringos" to ever quite complete or completely own on their properties. You might want to hire a real good real estate lawer!!! Know your property management and the Baja Mexican laws. Plus you might be dealing with cartel laws and interference. Learn from the locals what may limit your building capacities. I'm just warning you about rumours I've heard for YEARS! Otherwise mote Californians would have dominated Baja years ago. So, be wary! There are weird clauses in the buying of Baja property which is why there are so few actual land ownees from other countries.
Talk to Nomadic Movement about building from scratch in Panama before deciding. The materials you have in Canada is different in Baja.

Hiking the Baja alone is one of my most cherished memories. I also spent a lot of time in Rosarita Beach at one point in my life. You’re new adventure in living brings that all back for me and reminds me I need to revisit those places. Here’s a little haiku from my journey.

I love the Todos Santos area. And Cerritos Beach and Pescadero is my very favorite community in Mexico. About 20 years ago, I spent a week at Pescadero Surf Camp and felt like I was in paradise. Also, Jaime, the owner of the surf camp, also has a realtor office at the entry of the camp.
Enjoy this beautiful country but please be grateful and conscious on how this is affecting the native people. Respect and pay the real price. Understand how the society works here. I really love your content but I do feel sad on how this is affecting the country. It’s not hate, but here we have a lot of complex issues and it feels like the people moving from privileged countries live in a fantasy world not seeing how we are running out of water, how native people may live (or used to live) in the same area as you but not have access to the same basic rights, or how sexual tourism increased in the last 10 years and be fine with that and a huge list that continues and builds a wall (bigger than the actual one) from your a dreamy house and the reality. I see you are good people, please educate yourself on this.

@@Vanwives i would also like to say that owning more than one land is really not an environmetally sustainable choice... i know living in places so beautiful is amazing but you would buy a house that stays empty half of the year. buying more property means having double of everything, from appliances to furnishing, that would get used very little.
without mentioning how it effects the local economy and prices of houses in the neighbourhood by coming and renovating a house. please think more about the impact of your decisions on the native land and ppl. i know it's your money, but we are all part of this planet...

im gonna be honest, i dont like when people own more than one property. it's harmful for the environment and it ruins the local economy, makes prices of the neighbourhood go up cause ppl with money come and renovate. the property just ends up being empty half the year cause you have two other ones. and it's already hard to buy without rich ppl coming buying a second one. i dont think it's ethical.
And who looks after it when they're not there. Anyone could break into their place unless they intend to rent it out. If rented out that has it's own "watch out" what might happen and worries. How rich are the Vanwives I wonder hmmmm

So fun to watch. I think that greenery, not desert growth, is what you would go for. That leaves the two homes. The last one with the pads for your friends, having been built by a contractor, and the greenery is a likely winner.

Theybe already paid for the cabin in NS outright, the second cabin was purchased just for the land. This is their winter choice for a warm escape and they did it all through hardwork, consistency and building their YT! Pretty cool 😎
