YES some praise for Sly 1, as it rightfully deserves. This is one of my favorite games of all time, and for good reason. The more straightforward platformer style with just the right amount of hidden secrets to give me incentive to explore, the level design, the dialogue, the music... honestly I think I would prefer a world where Sly 1 was the only game in the series, so more people could appreciate it for what it is rather than comparing it to the sequels.

I would have never found out about Sly Cooper if it weren't for the second game. I remember commercials for it on TV and I played a little bit of my friend's copy before accidentally grabbing the first game for myself. But in the words of Master Oogway, "There are no accidents." So if it wasn't for the first game squeaking by with success, I would be living in a world without Sly Cooper. And I know that doesn't sound like much, but these games have been a huge part of my life. The themes have influenced my morals and way of thinking, I've found friends and communities through these games. My very first crack at writing was a novice Sly Cooper fanfic. It shaped my play style in open world RPGs.
I agree that the first Sly Cooper turned the traditional platforming formula on it's head during its time. A stealth platformer was unheard of. And even though there were other stealth games before Sly Cooper like Thief, they were targeted towards a more mature audience. Sucker Punch succeeded in bringing the stealth genre to a generation of kids that had never seen the concept of avoiding enemies in a game. And one thing I will always appreciate Sucker Punch for is not pulling any punches when it came to the themes and vocabulary used in the games even though they were targeted towards kids. They taught me a lot.
There are just so many good things that can be said about this game. If anyone has managed to read this far, I highly recommend checking the Sly Cooper videos of a UA-camr called B-Mask. He does a great job of researching and dissecting all three games. But grab a drink and some popcorn, because you're in for the long haul.

This game truly Introduced me to be not just "Mischievous" but even more "Thievius" then ever as a kid to my teen years.

What an insightful and well put together dissection of what makes the first stand out. This is why I'm subscribed to this channel.

If Sly 1 was all there is, then there would have been a huge amount of interpretation would have been given to the ending of the post credits scene, though, which goes to show just how potential the Sly world has in of itself.

I remember playing Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus for first time in 2012, and I loved every second of it. Sly 1 has this unique and more chill vibe compared to its sequels and it's a great start for anyone to get into the series. Also the one of coolest gaming OSTs I've ever had the pleasure of listening to.

I think it was just as impactful, it's my favorite game out of the the trilogy and Sly Thieves in Time. I personally loved the way they did thing in Sly 1 and there's actually a lot of things I prefer in Sly 1 over the other games

I'd say this game; whilst it doesn't reach the highest highs that the sequels get to, it also doesn't have many things I can complain about. Well other then being a bit too short and easy for my liking but I'm happy to look past that to experience what began the series in the first place.

Sly 1 is difficult to place for me. It's a much more linear experience than the sequels in game direction and story, and the mini games bog it down. But then again, every Sly game has something that bogs it down. (The thing that always kept it below Ratchet and Jak for me) Sly 1's remarkable simplicity kinda makes it an easy game to go back to if you want a more casual time, while 2 and 3 feel like much larger tasks. I also feel like 1 has the most satisfying curb up to the climax, and final battle with Clockwerk, which I feel is the best finale in the series, Sly 3's being in second place. Honestly, I can't judge Sly 1 as anything but its own self contained experience.

As my first game, Sly 1 would have always been a classic for me. But it wasn’t until 3 that I actually finished a Sly game. Years after my first time picking up a PS2 controller. But I love Sly and the gang. And I cherish the Thevious Racconous manuals from the original boxes and the Sly cane my Grandfather made for me. I just wish that Sky would get some more recognition than just being a legendary platformer. A new game which could connect the dots and build upon what was laid down before it. Like God Of War PS4. New settings and new characters but not super different from the combo beat ‘me up that original fans enjoyed so much.
