“The Last Time” by The Rolling Stones
Composers: Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Lyrics:
Well I told you once and I told you twice
But ya never listen to my advice
You don't try very hard to please me
With what you know it should be easy
Well this could be the last time
This could be the last time
Maybe the last time
I don't know. Oh no. Oh no
Well, I'm sorry girl but I can't stay
Feelin' like I do today
It's too much pain and too much sorrow
Guess I'll feel the same tomorrow
Well this could be the last time
This could be the last time
Maybe the last time
I don't know. Oh no. Oh no
Well I told you once and I told you twice
That someone will have to pay the price
But here's a chance to change your mind
‘Cause I'll be gone a long, long time
Well this could be the last time
This could be the last time
Maybe the last time
I don't know. Oh no. Oh no
Maybe the last time…

A timeless classic and before my time.
Brian absolutely kill this riff !!!!!!!
And suddenly there was a last time , RIP Charlie watts
And of course *BRIAN JONES!* 😢
“Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony”
“This could be the last time”.
Good shout .
"This may be the last time" - The Staple Singers
The video was more inspired by Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy" than the music was by this song, to be honest.
@@fernandocarrazzoni It's because "Bittersweet Symphony" was inspired by an orchestral arrangement of this song, which for some reason didn't sound very much like it.
The tone the Brian Jones gets out of the guitar ............. my favourite of their singles.
I was in England at the time this song was released. I was 4 years, but have a clear memory of sitting on my Grands lap and eating my cereal (All-Bran) and the song came on the radio. Officially, the first Rock 'n' Roll song I remember hearing.
I'm not as old as you, I just discovered the Stones, I didn't actually listen to rock, now I know more about them and I listen to them.
🤘❤
Still pooping well?
@@djayers bit of a personal question
That's good.. unfortunately mine was Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.. aged 4.
Jones' guitar is hypnotic, it drives the song, Keith plays rhythm so he can sing backup and play the lead solo, back when they were a band and not competing with each other's egos.
That opening guitar riff is worth the price of admission alone.
After all these years, (I`m 75), I still find this song very unusual and powerful - ignoring the original meanings in the lyrics etc etc -- so unusual having this constant sequence of chords - a repeating musical question mark - resolved but instantly, questioning again. As far as the lyrics go - well if you take the them out of context - how true they have been throughout time and listening after all these years, it certainly reinforces the fact that there have been thousands of "Maybe The Last Time"s which have ended up being the last time - ever to be lost, in so many areas. Ignore this if you wish -- it may be just as well to! Otherwise, just dwell on that for a moment as this song still haunts from the sixties.
First time I heard this I was a college jock/student in Fresno. I can see myself dancing in the kitchen spilling my protein shake... Now I'm almost 80...still have room mates alive and army buds. Still rock with the Stones...
Awesome man!!! still rocking to the best band in the land
Time is an ilusion mate, your comment is gold.
I'm only 13, I'm glad I can read comments from people like you, they're truly heartwarming!
Keep Rocking ! God Bless you.....:)
cheers, long live the you and the stones!!
seriously, who did the video graphics???...they need an academy award......each lyric is made from scratch and distressed to look like a real 60's post-up....I am impressed off my ass!....
It's the coolest thing I've ever seen, fabulous!
Well said!
Exactly
All these posters are early 60 's british rock time, so fine (im french) one can see shadows kinks...
Yeah it's great this UA-cam channel is owned by a publishing company so it's done by professionals
One of the TOP 5 rock guitar licks of all time, no doubt. And this is of my TOP 5 favorite stones songs too. I was 10 years old when it came out. No one had yet coined the term earworm back then.
MAYBE THE MOST ICONIC INTRO TO ANY STONES SONG. I STILL GET CHILLS
Thank YOU BRIAN AND KEITH
My favorite
Brian Jones never got the credit he deserved.Looks like these guys are gonna rock till they drop.
RIP the three members of The Rolling Stones
Ian Stewart (July 18, 1938 - December 12, 1985), aged 47
Charlie Watts (June 2, 1941 - August 24, 2021), aged 80
Brian Jones (February 28, 1942 - July 3, 1969), aged 27
You will be remembered as legends.
Brian's gnawing, hypnotic guitar. He did have talent, despite what his detractors say.
😊
😢
I’m 57 years old and love The Rolling Stones early 1960s. Can’t beat it. I grew up with this music. I’m in my kitchen today listening to it and always will. RIP Brian Jones and Charlie Watts. Hope you guys are are jamming together. ❤
I like Rolling Stone music 🎶 from sixties, very simple, easy, beautiful. 🇦🇺❤️👍🚗😊🏊♂️🙏🎶 3:32
guys like u give me hope that no matter how old and how much the world changes, my heart for my childhood will never die out
I like stones music. A lot of pieces are simply 4 chord pieces, nothing fancy. That's probably why they scored with them, keeping it simple.
Incredible raw beauty. Far out, how beautiful is this to listen too. As a loving guess, this was the direction Brian was heading, pretty much signifies the period where the beautifully, innocent and young conflict began…Brian and Jimi are one of a kind…If there’s an afterlife of similarities, Brian and Jimi will now be twin brothers - makes me feel real happy that. Love this song, upsets me heaps about Brian. Selfishly for me,I know I’ve missed out on a life time of greatness in tunes.
I love the Brian Jones Stones so much ❤
It was incredible to look and listen to this. Mick looks young and beautiful here. The messages I got however, showed a young man far more sophisticated than American boys of his age. LOL, I can’t imagine my High School boyfriends being able to articulate feelings on this level. I’ve always seen Mick as a rather strict and angry guy. To this day he saunters up to t the stage scowling, his hand movements like a teacher getting ready to give a student the punishment of a lifetime. Even at this young age, the Stones were an intense experience, so different from the teeny-bop sweetness of the Beatles.
1960s best decade for music ever!!!

Love this guitar and harmony in this golden oldie. The Stones! Still listening in 2024.
How CcCould one not listen to The Stones Gimme Shelter, Winter; The Last Time Sway.
For me "The last time" is one of the best songs by the rolling stones. Also good: "Time is on my side" and "Tell me"
Tell me.. supergood.
@@tonvandenhurk7760 Yes - and "Under the boardwalk"
Ye i like miss tou and 19th nervous breakdown
Thank the Staple Singers partially
Time waits for no one is pretty good too.
Brian's arpeggios behind Kieth on the chorus is magic, then he kicks it back to the main riff on the verse. Legendary.
Yes, many people are not even aware of Brian playing arpeggios in his song.
one of the greatest hits by the stones
Oh yeah, für me too
That guitar lick developed by the late Brian Jones is brilliant!!
Wunderbar! It is amazing - The music is great, but incredibly, how did they get all these graphic posters, which look like they were really posted up on walls & boards, together, in sync, to go along with the lyrics?
RIP Charlie Watts ❤️
Brian Jones’ driving guitar riff is 90% of this classic.
Kudos to the person who did the graphics!! 👏
Older Rolling Stones Songs are the Best.
I agree. However, the panning of practically everything they did after "Exile" from quite a lot of critics is not justified, in my opinion. They have remained excellent for 60 years, but the early stuff is peak for sure.
60's was the best Rock ever
@@terencemeikle534Most after Exile not very good though.Save a few exceptions that prove the rule
That bluesy guitar riff just rammed down your throat is fantastic. Great vocals & rhythm section. Always my favorite Stones song, even a little more than "Satisfaction" if you can believe it.
I go for otis version. But this one, just has not an explanation. Killer riff, threatening vocals and a bunch of avid listeners. One of the best rnr anthems forever
❤❤❤❤
It’s a clarion call! It’s insistent, naggy and relentless …like my ole lady!

Brian's riff just perfect!
I predict a bright future for this group. Trust me on this one.
I'll always be a Beatles man but I find it absolutely impossible to listen to the Stones and NOT tap my feet or move up and down. They created some of the greatest grooves I have ever heard.
SpockBoy very relatable being a huge Beatles fan as well.
Rolling stones rule 50 plus years of massise amazing world tours stones greatest stage performers.
Led Zeppelin were better than both but it's hard not to like the Stones and Beatles too.
@@lyndoncmp5751 Lmao.
I can't compare these bands, led zeppelin, rolling stones, Beatles, pink floyd.
They all make me feel sad, cause they take me back when I was in my late teens and early twenties 🙁🙂👍
After all these years, this is still my favorite Rolling Stones song.
The Rolling Stones never gonna die
Never
Literally and musically💀
They're bound for rock & roll heaven! 🌈
Yes the rolling Stones the band rock n roll legend
@@lilsquirt6842 we're all going to die at some point
The Rolling Stones had already been enjoying strong popularity. But with the success of their hit "The Last Time", Jagger-Richards as a songwriting team really took off.
Outstanding! As a young child just discovering rock, the early Stones were 4 songs- Time Is On My Side, Get Off My Cloud, Satisfaction, and this classic. Magical times.
☮️🪷🪷☮️
Sure it was!
The video was very well put together.
I think this might be the very best British blues song ever. I know that's saying a lot but 🤷
I have always loved this tune. The best of the Stones. All the pieces work together so well, the riffs, vocals and percussion. Excellent. Thanks.
Riff here by Brian Jones
I really love this period of the Stones. All the weird tid bits Jones put into the music, like the marimba(?) on Under My Thumb or the sitar on Paint It Black.
God Almighty, they JUST DO NOT MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS ANYMORE!!
God Bless the 60’s!
GOD OF WHAT??, WHATS 60S?? THE YEAR 60 AFTER THE ANOINTED, THE KING OF JEWS THE LAST 21 CENTURIES??, OR 160S OR 1060S OR 15060S OR 1860S OR 1960S OR 2060S OR 2160S AFTER THE GRANDMOMS OF OUR GRANDADS KINGS OF LUST??

My favorite Stones song. Still rockin' with them at 80.
me to at seventy six
@@junpet47 I'm 64 and loved The Stones since Brown Sugar,Wild Horses, and Bitch were on AM Radio in' when I was 12.13, in 71'. I just can't believe they have been legends here since I was six years old. Good you guys are still diggin' them. Best band ever to drink beer to and to lift weights too as well.
Me at 73. Think we’ll survive as long as Keith Richards? He’s survived everything else!
Without a doubt, one of the best damn songs to ever come out of the 60's, and I have heard a shit ton of them. One of the best!
So damn agreed! Cant get the riff out of my head!
-yes, and first big stones hit of their own.
My favorite song from the Rolling Stones in the early years. Love that beat. Simple, driving, strong.
This song is such a bitter sweet symphony
Where is the sample? I don't hear it...
Where is the sample? I don't hear it...
Listen to Andrew Loog Oldham's orchestal version of Last Time, Verve totally plagiarized it.
The main hook of the song is Oldham's work over Jagger/Richards work
Correct credits for not being sued:
Music: Oldham/Jagger/Richards
Lyrics: Ashcroft
@@MiggcroixThey didn’t plagiarize it. They got the rights to sample it. According to the suit, they sampled a larger portion of the song than they were supposed to though.
@rainman3164 did you listen to the Andrew Loog Oldham's The Last Time?
Bittersweet Symphony is literally that record with added lyrics, absolutely not a sample they paid for. They "constructed" a song completely based on that record.
They paid for a sample in their song, but what they really did was take the record, record some vocals and extra instrumentation, and credit only themselves. Do you understand now?
There was no way that the song was gonna to be only credited to Ashcroft without repercussions. The 70% of the song is merit from Oldham, over a Jagger/Richards composition.
No, no, no, no, NOOO!!! Is what got me towards the end of the song. I was about 6 or 7. I would play that part over and......
At LAST, thanks to this video, I FINALLY know how that late part goes!!! THANK YOU for showing "Say no more"!!!! That part was stumping me for the last 5 and a half decades!!
Incredible intro! Brian Jones at his masterful best.
Greatest Rock and Roll band ever. Had all the hits, were able to adapt with the times and yet still hold their own identity. Their brotherhood has kept them together threw thick and thin for almost 60 years. Long Live the Stones!
Right on every count.
The Beatles >. No question; better harmonies, better albums, better lyrics, ECT.
Led Zeppelin, the Rolling stones, and Cream are all tied at #1 for me
@@edwardmontalbano4683 The beatles dont even break top 10 in terms of Discography for me
Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin I’m more of a fan of fast paced rock and roll so for the Rolling Stones are the best but Beatles are great aswell probably not in my top 5 though.
Damn that guitar just grabs me the first phrase and never lets go! What a song... an everlasting chill maker!!!
BLUES BRITISH ROCK..............,

Such a catchy tune, a beautiful rhythm to it, incredible vocals. It's absolute class 👏

Love it.
Rolling Stones finest song...

Repeating melody my ears bleeding
I'm still running against the wind with this Stones song on my lips; the early Stones were a gem, a true representation of the phenomenal 60's
No truer words...still running against the wind too, but this keeps me going.
yes, i grew up with the Stones ,it was a wonderful time ,much fun, and the teachers were nagging , lol...
You mean the Degenerate 60’s. The generation that destroyed the gifts their fathers had given them and f**ked everything up for their children and generations to come. Free-loving ass-hats.
Awe, so gutted that legend's now a goner. Bless/RIP Master Watts..
RIP Charlie 😔😔
Masterpiece!!! 1960`s Rock For Ever!!!
Brian Jones playing that main riff. He really should have been given a writing credit.
RIP Charlie.
I don’t hear Bitter Sweet Symphony in this at all. But it was one of the first Stones songs I heard
If you set the Playback Speed to 0.5, you can kinda hear a resemblance. Regardless, they’re both still great songs
That fuzz was about the Andrew Oldham Orchestra version, partly owned by the Stones
I can. The vocal melody is the same melody just a bit faster. But then it's Andrew Oldham the Stone's manager that did a cover of this song, which is the song that The Verve sampled. So The Verve weren't using the source material. They were sampling a cover of a song. That's probably why you can't hear it. But I hear it clearly.

John it’s this version that’s in question. It’s very obvious here...

I'm trying so hard to hear it but I can't
This was THE song that hooked me on the Stones. I was only 10 when it came out, so I missed it when it was popular. My neighbor friend came to our house one afternoon in 1968, when my parents, who hated the Stones, weren't home. He had their big hits album, "High Tide and Green Grass" under his arm and said, "You gotta hear this." I had not heard "Satisfaction" either, the first cut. I liked it OK, but then this riff opened the second track, and I was hooked. Became a Stones freak, went and bought all their previous albums, and went to see them on the 1969 tour. They were GREAT, and I still think that, in their prime, they were untouchable. RIP the late, great Charlie Watts.
Do you like aftermath

This is the greatest song from them. From the opening notes fantastic.

You're planning your father's death ahead of time? LMAO
I heard someone say, No one can touch the early Stones stuff including the Stones themselves. I agree.

The level of detail in this lyric video is absolutely stunning.
gefällt mir heute noch genauso gut wie 1965
Mick and the band added a little dash of Nashville with this one. That deep, big bodied acoustic guitar tone on rhythm, along with Keith's patented riff, make this one something special. Back in the early 1970s, this tune used to stream through my mind whenever I'd go for a ride on my chopper. This is true road music. This is king tone that I never left back in the 1960s.
The riff was CREATED & PLAYED by Brian Jones.
@@yesterdayproductions1019 You're right. Jonesy created a lot of sound for the Stones which many (including me) were credited to Keith. However, as we know, Keith gave us a lot of great opening riffs for tunes by The Rolling Stones.
Filled with much angst, anxiety.....
Please continue making music I think your amazing ❤
Wow...outstanding graphical representation of one of The Rolling Stones truly classic songs. Keep ‘em coming!

It's November 2023. This morning read "Rolling Stones Upcoming 2024 Tour Scheduled"! 60 years and still touring. Amazing. Feeling very young again! First note to last, this is my favorite song 🎉
I'm tempted to go see them but not sure. Saw them in 2006 here and thought once was enough but am considering going to see them cause like the song says this could be the last time.
My wife tried to get tickets in LA for July. Sold out in minutes.
It’s now a bittersweet goodbye
This certainly won't be the last time that I soak up this banger. Man, that riff! ❤️🔥
