- I took off on Sunday morning on my Raleigh Tamland 2 with no plan except to be out in the Autumn sunshine. I pedaled the new path around Summit Lake before hitting some industrial gravel and then riding the Freedom Trail out to Kent. I watched part of the Browns game and had a couple beers before returning home in the late day sun on the Summit County Hike & Bike Trail. All this while discussing the dreaded daylight savings time ending and retrun to standard time.

Am I imagining Terry B influenced processing - image seems to have his style of perspective as things disappear into the distance.
Terry usually mounts his cameras - I hand hold it. He also uses gimbals where as I just use the GoPro stabilization.
We both shoot in the 8x7 5.3k mode though. Same frame rate I believe too.

Yeah - the time change tends to get to me during the week even on nice days. I’m lucky with a flexible schedule- but leaving for my weekly group ride in the dark….
I guess it just makes me love the summer all the more!

I will rent bikes too but on this trip I won’t have time as we will be arriving in evenings and heading to a new place in the mornings.
Time isn't real! Yet we all remain a slave to the concept of time! I couldn't agree more with the effect the darkness has on mental health. In recent years, after winter, by March, my brain gets in a right state!

Someone set a Strava KOM on a very tough hill near my house. It was so outrageous that I took my vintage hot rod (truck) up the hill and still couldn’t beat it. That really made me laugh. Humans are ridiculous.
I never have enough time. I can’t find the time. Times up. I’m losing time . All because of a train ?
I rode my first group ride last Saturday. We just rode the local greenway but began & ended at a brewery. I was so fun; I’m hooked!

I left after work for my first ride in the dark since the time change...warmest it will be this week was my motivation. 20 mph north wind with cold hands. I may need to put on had mitts soon. Seems early! Thanks for a chill video.

Are you using the same pedals on both bikes? How about the crank length or "Q" factor? For me it was two different crank lengths which I thought was weird.
I think most likely the q-factor. Same cranks, pedals and shoes.
This is great! We were at summit lake on Sunday - the new nature center is really nice on the water. I'm happy to hear they are investing more with the pavilions. How many miles is it on the bike path from Kent to Cuyahoga Falls and where does the path deposit in Cuyahoga Falls? Is riding through Broad intersection the best bike route from the path to the other side of falls (toward state road)?
I think it is about 10 miles. There really isn’t a good way from one side of the Falls to the other to be honest. Route 8 ruins everything. You can just take the sidewalks though.

I am. I don’t remember the brand - they were two for a couple bucks. I bought them on Amazon and they are the ones that go over the whole camera with cut outs for the buttons and screens.
Here on the West Coast (CA Central Valley), everything turns green this time of year. The native grasses die in May.
Fall is pretty over there, but I know your winters are rougher.

Monday was my first day of riding home from work in the dark. I always get used to it, but I miss having daylight when commuting home around traffic.
I have a newer helmet that lights up -i really dig that extra visibility. In the winter it’s a double wammy as not only is it dark but cars really don’t expect us to be out there.
I’m really enjoying Fall in East Coast Northern Virginia. Sometimes no plan is the best plan.

It’s interesting- no one synced clocks until trains - that’s when we had to be on the same page and time zones were invented. But also - modern physicists say time is an illusion so….🤷🏻♀️

Fun facts: There have been 2 alligators caught in Summit Lake and there's a sunken Ferris Wheel at the bottom
The ferris wheel thing is a myth. There has just been a huge survey done of the lake and the sediment and there is nothing like that in there. Its a very common urban legend in many urban lakes that used to have amusement parks.

You can...if you can get to the shops at the right time. Getting in a town one evening and leaving for the next in the morning won't work. I have done it before when working in one place.
Nice to get out and ride before it gets cold and snowy. The good thing about here in Florida is that the biking season just getting started. Enjoy your rides till the season lasts. 👍
I just signed up for a gravel ride in early January for that reason! It’s called the “Orange Blossom Special”. It will be so nice to get out of here for a few days then! Hopefully it isn’t record breaking cold like the last time I was there.

If the ground is dry, one can ride year round! A cold but beautifully sunny day in late January, you are good to go with proper clothes. I hope you enjoy your trip too!
I’ll even eff with some snow. Definitely have learned to get the winter clothing dialed. That doesn’t mean I like it though -I’m just a cycling addict.

There is a nice loop you can ride using the Summit Hike & bike trail, the towpath trail, and riding through Kent.

Nice video, Tim. Didn’t realize you were a videographer. One big reason I don’t shoot videos on my rides is the editing aspect. What’s the best way to learn that skill?

This is going to be a very unsatisfying answer but “tons of practice “.
I’m actually a commercial photographer first and then clients starting hitting me up for video. I taught myself some of the skills - but even when I got good the editing was taking me too long(especially for organizations that had lower budgets).
In January of 2020 I made it a goal to make and edit a UA-cam video at least once a week. I wanted to be able to use Premier Pro the way I use Photoshop. It worked(and I had extra time to get good when the pandemic hit - which also saved my ass as I couldn’t photograph events but I could make videos for clients)
This whole channel having any popularity is a byproduct of wanting to learn editing software better!
The second part to practice is Google and UA-cam. Whenever I can’t do something I look it up. I also keep up on all the updates by being subscribed to channels about software and editing techniques. I think one of the reasons I love photo and video is because there is always room for growth and improvement. It’s like being a musician- no is ever done - you can always know more and play better.
That is funny I understand my husband bought me a GoPro it took me a year just to turn it on. I told my kids if I ever figure out how to video and ,make a UA-cam channel I would pay my kids a dollar for each video they give me a thumbs up. Well I think Tim’s videos rock as it gets me out when I can’t . I’ll give my grandkids my dollar .
