I have always made my own bobbins out of old cardboard, and I tape the little "info belts" (the paper wrap tube things that hold skeins together) onto the bobbins. And YES!!....MY bobbins are shaped in a way that has room to place the "info belts" so they aren't covered by the wound up floss! 🤣😂🤣😂
I keep floss in Floss-Away bags about the size of a snack bag and file them in the box made just for them in numerical order. Easy neat never had a problem.
I had just found an excel sheet organizer for making an inventory of embroidery threads and was looking for a way to organize by color but this is so perfect??? It fits my need for it to be aesthetically pleasing while also being organized and making sense! Thank you so much!!! (if anyone's interested the spreadsheet is by Lord Libidan and includes a search function that tells you right away how much of each thread you have once you've got it input).
I use bobbins and I also have a spreadsheet with all the colors I have, where I put them (currently a work in progress) and conversions to DMC, because I'm polish and I'm cheap and I use Ariadna brand. It comes with an added benefit that Ariadna had more foresight designing their colors and organizing by numbers also organizes them by color
OOOOOOOOOOh Myyyyyyy Goshhhhhhhh. I have been searching and searching and searching for ideas on how to organize my floss. Hail to the King!!!! King Ford 👑. Thank you for coming up with such a brilliant way to store your floss. I do not need to keep on the hunt for organizing my floss any longer. Ah, freedom from flossopolis..
I came for the organisation tips but I’m staying for you and Nugget 🥰. Snorted my coffee at your thought process about what colour you classify a floss as - get out of my head! 🤣
Just discovered you. I’ve been stitching since the late 70’s and dmc many moons ago drove me nuts lol. I know they are keeping there options open with the numbers, but 🤪 hahaha! So I just recently had my wood fence replaced and had left over wood so I made a 4 or 5 stage shelf. Wish I could show a pic. Found storage cases 50% off and have decide after 10 years to reorganize my dmc floss. I have soooo much floss that I think I have every discontinued dmc color as well as the new. Sadly a mom and pop craft store closed shop in Tennessee where I once lived and I bought every single color from the dmc bend. So yeah I’m loaded lol So far I’m just going on their number system but I agree It really is not enjoyable to my eyes. Nice to see another nan that stitches
I’ve been through all methods. My now preferred method is unwinding all floss from bobbins and hoping the bobbins didn’t weaken the floss at the ‘kinked’ edge. I now am in the process of putting all floss bobbins onto floss drops. I like being able to pull/tease one strand of floss out from the drop and not having a cut a length of floss remainder to rewind on the bobbin. I prefer putting all floss numerically. Patterns are giving floss numerically and rarely gives the color. I have the DMC floss card like you do, but it also doesn’t give or go by the color name. Still in the process of getting the bobbin floss onto floss drops. Consider this process. RNRWOODWORKSKY make a marvelous, inexpensive floss stick to wrap the floss from skein form. I have both sizes and prefer working with a longer length of floss so I use the longer winder. Will save the smaller winder for specialty threads.
Lol... I just happened on your video this morning and having watched it, I'm still smiling. What fun! Great info on how you organise your floss ( 'threads' to us here in the UK) but with a cheeky, humorous twist. I can see I'll be chuckling all day catching up on your videos. C xx
Recently got into embroidery again, I was into it a little but not as much as I am now, and I've been watching videos and stuff so this is the first video of yours I've seen and it was great!! I love your personality and humor, and I also am in love with nugget now, so thanks for that! Lol! You have gained a sub 😊 Ps I love your hair color!!!!! ❤️
I use thread drops, went to DMC website to break them up into 12 colors then put into number order. Each thread drop as a color washing tape that matches it color group, so I know where it goes back. I have a master list just in case I forget 😂
I saw the Mount Nerdcore Tour when it came through my town at a *shockingly* intimate venue (in the Before Times). I got to talk and chat with StD for a good fifteen minutes and it was awesome. There were seriously like 50 people at this show with Mega Ran, MC Lars, Schaffer the Darklord, and MC Frontalot. It sucks that it probably wasn't super lucrative for them but it makes for a very memorable concert-going experience.
@@SonovaStitch I bought a ticket for the online Mount Nerdcore thing they did a couple months ago. Several of them have come through here (also at a small venue) and they are all really good dudes. Well, with one exception, but he's not on that list :) I would go see them again in a second.
Genius!😵 I just ordered that guide and I’m currently adding about 75% more skeins than I had to my boxes. They looked empty and as a collector mostly I need them ALLL!!! 🤗
I am so glad someone else relates to my sticker dilemma. I also just started putting them on my floss boxes and now I’m looking telling myself I can buy more 😂
I collect floss for the same reason I buy the biggest number of Crayola Crayon colors. I want all the colors. I know it’s obsessive. It’s better than gambling or drinking and far less expensive.
I'm a heathen; when I first got started with embroidery, I'd get my floss onto a bobbin and do nothing as far as labeling goes. I hate myself for it now because I've amassed quite the stash and have NO IDEA what number every single one is 😫 It really sucks now that I also want to collect them 😂
@@SonovaStitch so I found your video looking for a way to spool up floss on the little white tabs. But since then I've figured out a great way to do it. If you take a drywall anchor , cut the tip off the part with the lip. Stick it in it Chuck bearing drill. With the tip grasping on to the white tab. as a chuck of its own. And you can use the drill to spool up your floss really quickly!! Awesome little lifehack just taught myself.
Where did you get the sample card? Is is one that has the actual threads or is it printed? I do not like the printed ones as it's not possible for the colors to be accurate.
It's the sample (swatch) card, not the printed one. I bought mine directly from DMC's website, but they appear to be sold out at the moment. You can order them from Amazon or some craft supply retailers sometimes, but they're more expensive generally. You're definitely right about the printed ones. They are not very accurate at all.
I totally bought one! DMC had them back in stock! The one I had was the really out of date one from the 80's. A big big THANK YOU to you Sonovastitch.@@SonovaStitch
Hello! A question, please. I have just recently discovered your UA-cam channel and, specifically today, viewed how you organize DMC. I have an exorbitant amount of floss numerically organized in approximately 20 photo boxes. The issue I have is pulling out the boxes every time I need to either get floss for a new project or put back floss after completing a project. This inconvenience makes me tend to not put things back up until it gets to the point where I can no longer avoid. Finally, to get to my question. How many of the storages boxes you demonstrated would it take for one full set of DMC floss. I have multiples of ever color. My thought is having one of each floss stored together would be more conveient. Then only having to deal with the 20 boxes when replacing a floss as it is used up. Sorry for writing a book but needed to explain so my question would make sense. Thank you, Susan.
I have all DMC colors, plus some discontinued colors, a full set of Light Effects, a full set of Coloris, a full set of Satin, and a few odds and ends, and it takes up the capacity of about 1.5 of the boxes shown, with plenty of room for my habit of storing orts, extra bobbins and accessories, etc.
They're pretty cool for people who use them. It's nice that you don't have to wind the floss onto them since they fit the floss right from the skein. I haven't seen any good storage system for them besides the binder pages though, which are just too cumbersome for me. How do you store yours?
If you follow patterns: numerically. If you create your own patterns or improvise: chromatically. Alternatively, there's a link to a PDF version of my floss card in the video description; you could print that out and tape it to the inside of your floss storage box.
The creases come out pretty much immediately once you start stitching. If it's annoying me for some reason (like trying to measure it or having trouble getting one strand out) I'll either dampen it sightly or hold it lightly in my lips while breathing through it and pulling the whole length through to kinda 'steam' it.
I have a cute little iron that I use while quilting to press my seams open. I use it to get the creases out. I looked at so many other ways of storing my TONS of thread (over the past 40 years) but kept going back to the bobbins.
I absolutely adore that you let nugget give context
i love a well organised and aestheically pleasing system, this was amazing! also nugget is such a little star

Dang that magic trick caught me so off guard that I scared my family with my laughter
First time viewer and OMG I love you! What a delight you are.
I’ve just come across your video (I just discovered floss tube about 2/3 weeks ago). I just wanted to say I live your wall and your Budgie.

Yes I love organizing my floss almost as much as I love using it
It's me. I'm the floss gremlin that just tosses skeins into a box.
But hey. At least I keep my scraps in order and use them when I can
Lol @ "floss gremlin"

Schaffer the Darklord -- awesome sticker! I love listening to his music constantly.
Thanks for sharing. I use the Floss A way bags so i can put the single strands in the bag to use next time. Have a good day and stay safe.💜

Finally wrapped 360. Now I am going to arrange them by number. Can you say overwhelmed. Don’t know where or how to start. Ok back to stitching.

I just started up stitching again after a 10 year break... I knew exactly what color 995 immediately. I know I have at least 5 of it 🤦♀️
I may have about 10+ of it..😬
Chuckle. “I know I have at least five”
Thanks for the suggestion. I just bought my DMC char😁t

Hi! Just found your channel. So fun! I can’t find the floss organizer at JoAnn’s, Michael’s, or Amazon. What is the brand? TIA 🤗

I had this problem too! Someone helped me out by breaking into my car and stealing it all, lol
Where can I get the floss containers you use?
I got the chart from dmc its 3 pages with the number and the color of the numbers
Renegade Man, I believe this year is gonna be on 4th of Juplaya
I take it you noticed my BRC stickers and Larry Harvey's face?

I believe it's this one: www.joann.com/creative-options-thread-organizer-1013inx325inx1425in-clear/10672699.html
I use the stitch bows what do you think of those

that box would not take the bobbins I use. I like the larger ones.
I have that book
If you don't have a glass card, what system would you recommend? I'm super new to this
If you follow patterns: numerically. If you create your own patterns or improvise: chromatically.
