I get that he somewhat acknowledged the other issues, but it seems like he prioritized this as the main one while downplaying the other reasons, which I truly believe are the REAL reason why this movie didn't land with people. You know, on top of the fact that the writing was kind of sloppy, and that's coming from someone who enjoyed almost all of it (minus the ending). Let me know your thoughts. The movie failed not because people don't like Flash, but because: - Ezra Miller compromised himself in the eyes of society; - Warners kicked out all the unsullied actors like Cavill and canceled their projects; - The movie was remade a bunch of times and it resembled a stupid hodgepodge; - The movie was about something everyone had seen in the TV series and animation; - A reboot was announced, which made the movie unnecessary; - Warner Bros. and DC Studios are idiots who don't know what they want.
Funny you should mention that. They actually even addressed this in the CW-verse. One of his biggest archs in the show is that the cosmic forces try to teach Barry to NOT to abuse the Time Travel aspects of his powers and that he shouldn't meddle with cosmic forces as much.
@@ultron_sigmathis is why OP characters aren’t really that interesting in general. Unless it’s like one punch man where that’s the entire point of the character is being OP and the story is centered around that.
Well that's what happens when a guy like him lives in his "Ivory Tower" all day. He doesn't have to worry about living in the real or accepting consequences. Must be nice to be that rich.
That’s the thing people don’t understand with this statement. He’s a director in Hollywood and one of the unspoken tenets is not criticizing your peers or throwing others under the bus publicly. He was never going to say “Oh yeah it was Ezra’s fault lol” because that would have potentially angered executives at WB who have the ability to remove Andy from directing Batman. Idk why this is so hard to understand.
@ But then he could have at least come up with some excuse that wasn't akin to " Well nobody cares about the character." Because all that's saying is the same old Hollywood line of not taking risks. Meanwhile many movies worked that never should have for superheroes by taking a risk and being good.
The ratings consistently dropped after the first season. Season 1 started off with a strong average viewership of 4.6 million and 4.2 million by season 2. By season 9 it had an average viewership of .86 million views. It didn’t continue because the character was wildly popular, it continued because there was *some* money to be made until there wasn’t; The viewership dropped to an all time low. In my personal opinion, this show only made the character look not only cheap and poorly written, but broken in a case similar to Superman. If his powers were toned down for the movies, the fans of the show would have never stopped complaining.
The reason the flash film had failed is because a bad script, poor cgi effects, and the main lead making the Barry Allen character look so dumb when it came to his decisions. Not to mention the waste of other cameo characters that served no purpose to the bad plot and where Batman (Keaton) and Supergirl (Callie) take the spotlight away from the main character, who is the star, in his own film.
Directors like this guy just plain have a hard time accepting the fact that his movie was just plain bad. Even if you COULD simply ignore all of Ezra's insanity (Which I can't, btw.). There were just a lot of poor choices made and it reflected on screen. But instead of taking responsibility and potentially damaging his own career, he of course blames fans instead. It's so common now that it's not even a novelty anymore. The Flash by himself is NOT a boring or even bad character. In fact, I even loved the guy in TV shows like the Animated Justice League cartoons or his own solo TV show on the CW. Actually, the CW The Flash was probably not only the best CW show but best translated to a show program that whole CW DC-verse had to offer. I only stopped watching the show when they decided to write off my favorite characters on the show, Cisco and Ralph. But the fact that the CW show had so many seasons before they finally axed it should be proof on its own that there IS in fact a fanbase for the character and the potential to bring in new fans on top of it. Especially for DC Comics fans like myself who enjoy DC but are getting sick of only Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman being featured all the time. I want VARIETY. Bring in lesser known hero characters for solo movies like The Flash, or hell, even Martian Manhunter or Constantine. Heck, I'd even take Dr. Fate or Zatanna at this point. Just bring me something both good AND different, darnnit.
It’s the same reason why we haven’t gotten a Superman movie until this year. WB just looked at MoS being divisive instead of looking at WHY. It’s the same reason it seems like WB is just gonna keep doing only Batman games, because obviously no one didn’t like SSKTJL because no one cares about the JL, not because the game is a narrative and mechanical mess. As Jay said, it’s so tone deaf.
It’s especially bad with the games considering that we’re likely not getting another Injustice game for a while since it’s already been confirmed that NRS’s next game is gonna be another MK. IJ3 would be such an easy money maker, and it’s so disappointing to not even see them push for it after having two solid entries already. There also still isn’t anything but an announcement on that solo Wonder Woman game.
Flash is one of my favorite comic book characters! Both Barry Allen and Wally West! I have so many Flash comics! The movie was kind of mid. I was disappointed by it. it was lesser version of Flashpoint from the comics. I recommend the animated Flashpoint movie. I was also frustrated that the first Flash solo movie was a big multiverse movie that adapted Flashpoint. This felt like the plot of the third flash movie. I wanted a simple flash solo movie about Barry being in Keystone city fighting crime, being a forensic scientist etc. Imagine if No Way Home was Tom Hollands first Spiderman solo movie.
It was obvious Andy Muschietti wanted to make a Batman movie and turned a Flash movie into a quasi-Batman with a shitty version of Flash and a shitty villain that didn't push the narrative.
I like the flash but the wally west era. Before the speed force and the lightning/electrical powers. In the comics, the yellow on the suit generates a yellow blur, somehow ended up being energy. Before that he was just a guy with super speed, that sometimes failed him, losing his powers regularly
The Flash as a character has never been a problem, the actor playing him, Ezra Miller, on the other hand is a big problem, his off-screen antics doomed his movie.
Yeah I'm not mad about anything he said I just found his comments silly because The Flash Tv Show lasted 9 Seasons that's a very long time so obviously there's a audience that loves The Flash and The Flash Tv Show wouldn't have lasted as long as it did if it didn't have a large enough audience supporting it and if it didn't have a male and female audience that was watching it.
Pretty much this. It just comes off as kind of a cover for a lot of the problems that were being downplayed in the statement. It also feels like he's trying to distance himself from the failure of the movie, because as a director and also someone who is going to be speaking to the marketing team and speaking to the stars and all these people, part of your job is to make people be interested. Normal films have been doing this forever, but superhero films are so inflated with their budgets and the studios have such an ego around an established IP that they can't comprehend that people wouldn't show up for the name alone.
Even though the cw flash was on 9 seasons it was heavily criticized for most of its run by fans and by the 9th season it lost a lot of viewers the better tv flash was John Wesley shipp because he had to actually bring it during a time when the genre was mainstream like it is today even though the budget was a big factor in it not going beyond season one cause as John has stated it was one of if not the most expensive shows being made in 1990 and it wasn’t basically a teen soap opera show with superheroes
People don’t hate the character of the flash, there are many reasons why this movie failed and the character isn’t one of them that’s a dumb statement from the director. Reasons why it failed 1. The main actor Ezra and his many controversies leading up to the film. 2. Set in a dead universe that got rebooted anyway, that dc fans gave up on a long time ago. 3. The movie was stuck in development hell for a long time and had nothing to do with the actual flash point comic. 4. Superhero and multiverse fatigue (which I don’t believe is a real thing) to much superhero content. 5. To much competition in June and July 2023, spider verse 2, transformers, elemental, mission impossible, Oppenheimer, Barbie and indiana jones plus fast x and guardians 3 were still in theaters in June. 6.bad cgi and disrespectful cameos 7. Isn’t a solo film about the flash 8. Terrible marketing strategy getting A-list celebrities saying this the best movie ever made and the costume designer saying that Ezra performance is so good you will forget about the crimes he done. No Mr Andy Blaming the fans that your movie failed isn’t the best thing to say.
He shouldn’t be given another CBM ever again. Pretty much any MCU director who had to direct an origin story could have had that mentality. Yet a lot of them knocked it out of the park because they believed in their character.
It sucked because were promised that we will get the live action of Flashpoint not the multiverse and because of what Ezra Miller did , also the cgi was trash and the storyline was horrible even the ending seemed unresolved.
The character was miscast, the script had about 7 drafts before it even reached the current writers hands, a constant stream of directors were funneled in and out, the cgi was quite obviously rushed, the marketing had to rely on Michael Keaton and a new version of Supergirl due to the active crimes of the lead actor, the action set piece of the finale was slandered by the internet for being offensively tone deaf, but yes the only reason this film failed is because girls don’t like sci-fi
I loved The Flash as a kid. However, I found Ezra Miller's Flash annoying. I believe the reasons why Flash failed at the Box Office was because the DCEU was a terrible franchise. Ezra Miller's real life misbehavior put off a lot of people and it didn't look very good. Not even Michael Keaton's appearance as Batman could save this lackluster multiverse movie.
I see where the director's coming from, in recent years you can easily talk about how Flash is a bad character because of his speed scaling past the foes he's iconic to face off against. Most of them come from the CW show, some might’ve just concluded it themselves, none of them seem to want to cross the DCAU incarnation (coincidence I think not). But none of that is why this film flopped, if even fans of the character didn’t like it then I think we know it’s a bigger problem than just a bad Hero they’re adapting. Disregarding the Star's infamous reputation, bad cgi, constant switching of directors and bad timing being in theatres close with Across the Spider-Verse is why this film flopped.
I have 2 reasons I didn't see The Flash movie. First Ezra Miller's actions which if there was any justice in the world WB should've cancelled the movie, second The Flash TV series was better even after firing Hartley Sawyer from the show for old tweets years before he was cast as Elongated Man
People didn't even know who the guardians of the galaxy were before the movie. And those few of us who did, didn't know this team as the guardians and yet that movie made people care. This quote was ignorant and self righteous.
And now I don't want this guy anywhere near Batman, I was willing to give him some slack because that flash movie was just a mess from start to finish quite literally and the chances of him managing to salvaging the whole thing were slim at best. However choosing to blame the AUDIENCE instead of literally anything else that went wrong with that movie including the horrendous actions of it's lead actor is going to be a hell no to this guy. What is it with Warner Brothers and not being able to hold themselves accountable lately, it's like their trying to burn the company to the ground.
Iron man was not a popular character before his first movie and is now one of the most popular superhero's of all time. It's about good writing and storytelling not the character alone
Flash fan here: The Flash (Wally West specifically) is my 2nd favorite DC hero, and I’ve been waiting for DC to even try to adapt him in live action since I first saw JLU. (The Flash was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, in my opinion). I just hope DC doesn’t make the same mistake they made as the Green Lantern movie and not do anything with any version of the character for the next decade.
I haven't seen the movie yet (due to a vow I made before it came out) but several people I know who did see it are fans of the Flash and they all had legitimate complaints about the movie mostly the terrible CGI. The Flash is one of my favourite comic book characters (specifically Wally West) and I had high hopes for this movie but again due to my vow I can't watch it.
Maybe none of this would’ve happened if WB would stop screwing up everything. The Flash would’ve been an origin story instead. I recommend the DCEU continues on Netflix or put it in comic adaptations just like Superman 78, Wonder Woman 77, Batman 89 and Batman 66 with the actors likenesses.
I really like flash but I can see the issues, much like Superman he has an OP problem. unless he is inexperienced, nerfed or the antagonists are also speedsters its hard to find genuine challenges . Captain cold managing to tag him with ice guns or Captain Boomerang with Boomerangs can work in animation but would look super goofy in live action.
1 reason and 1 reason only, why I didn't see the movie. Miller is the worst casting I have ever seen for a superhero. Barry and Wally's versions of Flash are great. This clown was neither of them. He sucked in JL, why would anyone want to watch him in something else.
I didn't see the film when it came out and I still haven't watched it specifically due to the news of Ezra Miller's criminal actions. That happened before and during the filming of the Flash movie I morally felt that by seeing the film I would be condoning/rewarding Ezra's actions when he was making the film. I believe that to be the main reason why the film flopped besides the bad feedback from people who saw the film.
All I wanted was a proper Flash movie with him vs The Rogues, but instead it seems like DC/WB are only interested in Flash and only pull him out when they need to reset everything
Flash is one of DC's most popular characters. The CW series, despite all its problems, had good ratings for many years. He just doesn't want to admit that his movie failed. If we look at Marvel, they adapted 2 speedsters very well. Quicksilver (Fox, not counting with MCU) and Makkari.
I Liked The Flash Movie and Loved The Concept of the Movie but it wasn't cause of the Hate of the Movie as to why I Never went to see it in Theatres I Always wait for Streaming now a days Really, Ezra Ruined It A Bit For Me but I Honestly Over Looked That Aspect I Wish it didn't play out the way it did but the Universe was Closing over and we were getting a New Universe and I Just Have More Hope now thanks to James Gunn and the New Superman Teaser, I Just Want More Already and I Cant Wait for what comes Next!
The flash would have worked a lot better if they made it a mystery movie. And throughout the mystery we get to see things like Gorilla City and the rouges. It could even connect to his mom's death. Save flashpoint for a bigger justice league crossover movie. I think that was the biggest problem with the DCEU. They were so impatient. We went from just Superman existing to the entire justice League in 3 movies. Even this movie is so focused on expanding the universe that it forgets to be it's own thing. The MCU is also dealing with the same problem of being a franchise first and a movie about a character last. The couple movies that were considered the highlights of the DCEU were all of the self contained stories. No one cares about Captian Marvel anymore. But the movie still succeeded due to the fact it was it's own story with it's own mood.
Yeah it's like the generation that grew up on watching Justice League/Unlimited are now adults and would of course care about a Flash movie, it's the other factors that fucked things up for it
What's with these directors coming out and blaming people for their failure? First James Mangold for Indiana Jones 5 Then Sony CEO coming out and saying it's y'all faults for the Sony Marvel films failing And now Andy saying this about fans for Flash failing
I actually saw the flash in theaters and pretty much enjoyed it but it wasn’t perfect in my opinion cause i would have liked to see the plot resemble flashpoint better then it did but I saw it for Affleck and Keaton anyway cause I’m a huge Batman fan and I didn’t let millers actions stop me from seeing Batman they were great in the movie but i would have liked the timeline to be fully fixed at the end of the movie and not give us a third Bruce Wayne played by George Clooney it just feel like a proper adaptation of flashpoint compared to the animated movie we already had at that point I’m not one who needs a panel for panel recreation of the comics but I just like the movie to feel like the story it’s adapting
Love the Character, Flash was one of my favorites growing up, As an adult with small kids, I enjoyed several seasons of the CW show… Flash failed because he was written to be a complete wanker in the Snyderverse. The flash also sucked because the actor portraying him is in fact a wanker in real life… Lastly we hated the storyline and the atrocious lazy over reliance of PS1 like CGI…What a mess, and it’s a shame Keaton wasn’t given a better send off. The only thing in the movie that was enjoyable was seeing him suit up again. Everything else in the film was complete garbage. Just my opinion. What do I know?
Yes, Grant was great when he was allowed to be The Flash. The problem was they were more interested in EDI and telling everyone else's story instead of his.
There's a handful of scenes in Flash that are alright, I didn't hate it, but it was hard to separate Ezra Miller from the rest of it. He was always such a shit pick for the role, and then he proved to be a completely shit person. It's like Snyder didn't know the difference between Wally West and Barry Allen when casting The Flash. Miller was as bad a pick for that role as Eisenberg was for Luthor. The unfinished CGI didn't help either, though I do think people misunderstood what the filmmakers were going for in the "time sphere" scenes (they were supposed to look weird and rubbery). There's no excuse for alot of the other awful CGI, though. I did actually love Sash Calle as Supergirl, not the role for her, but damn, she made that suit look *good*. I'd love to see her cast as a different character in the DCU, that chick is gorgeous and seems very chill. There are like 30 other DC characters she could play, she has the look, the build and the charisma.
Imo (other than ezra being involved) the reason the movie failed is because it focused more on bringing back Keaton as Batman than it did about making a flash movie. They literally chose a famous flash story, then ignored the key elements of that story…and expected flash fans to be happy. Eobard should have been here. Flashpoint Thomas and Martha should have been here.
Exactly what I have been saying cause up until I saw it in theaters I was wondering who was going to be the Thomas Wayne Batman if Jeffrey dean Morgan didn’t return cause he was Thomas Wayne in dawn of justice then getting George Clooney at the end of the movie as Bruce Wayne saying to the viewers that he still didn’t correct the timeline
I wasn't that disappointed because I didn't like the person who was playing the role. Grant gustin was the main reason I fell in love with the character but I remember to separate the actor for the character and when Ezra played him he just seemed so annoying. When grant played barry I loved not just him as a character but I fell and got to see his life, his back story, and saw how he operates and the Challenges he faced that even made him go back to save his mom where I understand. Ezra I didn't see much for me to feel yes go back especially since the other adaptation have him have a rule to not do stuff like that so to me it kind of was a repregression. I watched it after spiderverse, which was a joy and blast cause I am major spidey fan at the end of the day, but it wasn't as bad as I thought but I just felt we should have gotten a simple flash story whereas they did the same thing with henry cavil superman do a major famous storyline for a version of the character we haven't grown with to care on why he did what he did.
The movie failed. There was a lot of reasons, but fans wants a flash movie to succeed, but they want to see the flash and all of his greatness, but the movie felt like it was making fun of the flash, but they loosely adapted a controversial plot that is a lot to cover for the time frame it could’ve easily been a miniseries to end the universe. And I just want more fore the flash I really don’t want this to be the end because flash doesn’t need a team but he’s a team-player. I want some like rebirth Godspeed arc for like a movies plot
I actually did like the movie. I’m surprised that he didn’t try to reinvent the character like what happened in rebirth or what Thor did in ragnarok. The flash is an interesting character though I wonder how they could have made him more interesting since the flash show was on during that time.
If a movie was released, I couldn't care what people behind the scenes did, as long as the movie was good. Also, I'm not saying that people shouldn't take responsibility for their actions they absolutely should.
If Andy actually thinks that he needs to stay away from CBM. We really gonna disrespect grant like that…. Also proof he knows nothing about the flash. Ezra is a massive issue too. Also did he really think the story cooked?
No people didnt like Ezra Miller, heard all the creatives problem and they couldn't even put the one cameo we cared about like Grant Gustin. There are so many videos on why people hated it.
I love the flash, The flash is my second favorite dc superhero behind the dark knight. I didn't see the flash for the same reason I didn't see aquaman 2 why are these abusers on my screen? Like this doesn't make me excited, I'm disgusted by seeing them. Johnathan majors isn't in the next avengers movie but poopy heard & chokey miller was on the big screen. The hypocrisy of it. I love the flash my favorite flash comic is rebirth. Wally west is my favorite flash when he's done right. I just want a good flash movie. Grant would've been a better flash than miller.
Exactly. A lot of people just straight up did not see it because the actions of the Stars were so prevalent, and they didn't really feel right about supporting it. I'm sure we support a lot of bad people unknowingly, but when it's right in your face like that, it's just kind of off-putting to many different people.
Just because the show got 9 seasons doesn’t mean it was a good show look at supernatural it got 15 seasons and a lot of it was terrible according to fans the cw had a bad habit of keeping show on well past their prime
@ my guy I literally said the show was loved at the beginning hinting that it wasn’t towards the end but my argument is if no one loved the character of flash why did a tv show do well revolving him
I liked it. I think people get their expectatuons too high. But i didnt have a problem with the whole "martha" controversy in Batman v superman. In a nutshell, i think it made bruce wayne realize clark kent had some "humanity."
I did not watch it because I did not appreciate a in universe reboot. For a successful franchise like marvel they can keep the history they built and recast fan favorite characters. That’s not true with the DCEU why keep the history of a failed universe? It was time to let the studio know we wanted a fresh start. Not a reboot inside the same creatively bankrupt universe. Thank god they understood the msg and let James Gunn tell people to forget that ever happened. What I can’t stand is them letting him keep his suicide squad characters and maybe even Matt reeves Batman☠️ I just want to forget all the Snyder Verse Bs
I liked the previous Ezra Miller performances for Barry Allen the Flash, not in the Flash Movie. And I more so like the CW Flash despite it being lesser in quality for the later seasons, and the sore spot for me loving Flash as the character was the Ezra Miller drama and the Flash movie. Before that I was even playing Injustice 2 and even GTA V with mods that made the characters the Flash. Just make a good movie.
It hurts seeing the flash get so disrespected he's my favorite ex character ever since I watched The CW flash show. Grant Gustin was amazing. Seems flash only gets good writing and time to shine in animated movies like flashpoint and Justice League WW2 I believe
I didn't see The Flash because of Ezra Miller's erratic behavior. I eventually got around to seeing The Flash movie on Netflix. I didn't really like it. Aside from Sasha Calle's Supergirl and Michael Keaton's Batman and a few scene with Ezra Miller's Flash and that one scene with Ben Affleck's Batman. I didn't really like it. The CGI was 💩💩💩💩.
I didnt even watch The Flash, mostly due to all the drama and how ugly it looked. Im so tired of comicbook-movies having worse CGI than movies from the early 2000s. Just look at the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy, Davey Jones in particular. Even the Lord of the Rings trilogy looks more appealing despite starting to show its age. At least there is Matt Reeves The Batman, that movie was gorgeous. Cant wait for the sequel.
I thought the movie wasn't bad, maybe it was good even but it was definitely NOT a Flash movie. Where were all the core Flash characters like Wally West, Iris West and a core flash villain? I think that is what hold this movie back. I am eager to see a true Flash movie but it wil probably take a while, maybe that is good for the brand to recover a bit.
I thought the Flash movie was okay at best. The emotional parts worked, Ezra's acting was surprisingly good for the more intense scenes, but the overall story was a mess. Everyone was characterized in a horrible way even with the wildly inconsistent and unclear timeline of these characters we have. The action was hit or miss and the CGI is some of the worst effects I've ever seen in a movie. I also don't appreciate how the main character doesn't learn his lesson, makes the same mistake and the movie ends without him understanding the depths of his failure. I was willing to give the director the benefit of the doubt because this is a movie that suffered greatly from studio interference and changes in plans, but his latest comments confirm that I don't want to see anymore of his comic book movies. Let Sam Raimi direct Brave and the Bold and keep him away.
Tons of reasons main is The butchering and removal of Ben Ben Affleck Henry Cavill from the ending , that’s my main take away the movie would’ve been more satisfactory , if they left the original second main cut , prior to Gunn stepping all over it , hiring George Clooney wasting his time. do to his narcissistic view of Michael Keaton Batman and Snyder envy / need to put his prints on it
I enjoyed the movie. I appreciate it for what it was, and I liked the new take of Supergirl but didn’t appreciate the lackluster cameo’s at the end of the movie,It was kind of disrespectful.
Look at James Gunn's movies, no one knew or care about Guardians of the galaxy or peacemaker but and everyone and their mother are still came and love the films. Ironman was NOT a popular hero until the MCU. This is just the director not taking accountability that his movie was terrable and th and casting was even worse
This guy just can’t accept he wrote a terrible movie, that no one wanted to see a Miller succeed, and that his movie was so badly written that it made The Flash season 9 look good. Also no one cares about The Flash, tell that to The Flash (2014-2023).
Ezra Miller aside, I thought the movie was just done terribly. They butchered the Flashpoint story, the CGI was awful. His Barry Allen was more like Wally West. It was just terribly done is all.
the movie looked bad and that version of the Flash was just never popular. even before the ezra miller controversy most discussions were negative towards that flash. there was no way this movie wpuld ever do well, especially with how public the troubles with the production were. edit: even wonder woman is usually underserved by DC, theyre mostly the Superman and Batman company. like WW has merch bc shes their "girl hero" but even then she shares space with Catwoman and Harley also what youre doing with the store, taking old damaged stuff is awesome
To say this in 2025 is insane. The Guardians of the Galaxy were D-listers...the very definition of 'the general public doesn't care about these characters'...and that trilogy made $2.5 billion. Even Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor were B-listers, at best. The Flash is SO MUCH bigger for DC than any of those characters ever were for Marvel, pre-MCU. If you make a great movie, people will care about the characters. Period.
Movie was'nt that bad. But to see this guy instead of Grant Gustin felt wrong. Suit was awful and i don't wanna start on the effects,... Best thing was to see Keaton in action
I didn’t hate it just growing up watching the flash tv show grant was my flash then hearing about the erza stuff didn’t help then I saw it and it definitely wasn’t good🤣I think blue Beatle was way better
They should have fired Ezra Miller years ago as Miller was the worst person to pick as Lucas Till would have been a better Flash and why the Flashpoint as it being over used
I’m gonna be honest I didn’t care about the movie at all, I just went to see it because Flash is my favorite hero, and it was very disappointing. It felt more like it should’ve been a Justice League movie instead of a solo Flash movie, anyway fantastic video Jay keep up the great work
I know I don't speak for all women, but as a female myself, Flash has always been my favorite character. He is the ONE character of which I buy every single comic every month and I have been for the past 13 years. I love the Flash. The problem isn't the character, it's everything surrounding the movie. Ezra did not give themselves a good rep. And eventhough they seemed to be somewhat redeemed, the damage was done. DC also did not give themselves a good reputation with the previous movies. So you already have an unreliable studio and a controversial actor. Then there's the fact that the movie wasn't even great. I enjoyed it and would even rewatch it, but it's just not a great movie. I think what DC needed was to make a simple Flash movie and not some giant multiverse story with all these different characters that were basically there to lure people to movie theaters. I think the reception of the Superman trailer show that. People want to see heroes save regular people. Not every superhero movie needs to be on the same level as Endgame.
Well for one thing you all did a botched up adaptation of flashpoint, brought back batkeaton about whom nobody outside of America cares or knows about lol, basically did grave robbery by digitally rendering actors without their permission, and worst of all did not even acknowledge or pay tribute to any of the other flash media in any way.
I don't hate dc Flash I don't really despise Ezra Miller probably because I understand a little if he lost his mind maybe if some of it had to do with the shit the arrogant side of Warner bros pulls im not trying to defend Ezra's actions Warner Bros probably started off as good but somehow the arrogant side of Warner bros has a history of projecting their craziness in the company
I get that he somewhat acknowledged the other issues, but it seems like he prioritized this as the main one while downplaying the other reasons, which I truly believe are the REAL reason why this movie didn't land with people. The movie failed not because people don't like Flash, but because:
- Ezra Miller compromised himself in the eyes of society;
- Warners kicked out all the unsullied actors like Cavill and canceled their projects;
- The movie was remade a bunch of times and it resembled a stupid hodgepodge;
- The movie was about something everyone had seen in the TV series and animation;
- A reboot was announced, which made the movie unnecessary;
- Warner Bros. and DC Studios are idiots who don't know what they want.
The character? No. The actor? Yes
People would probably love the flash as a character if he wasn’t just used as a multiverse or time travel device every single damn movie
Funny you should mention that. They actually even addressed this in the CW-verse. One of his biggest archs in the show is that the cosmic forces try to teach Barry to NOT to abuse the Time Travel aspects of his powers and that he shouldn't meddle with cosmic forces as much.
People do, but I agree dc needs to stop treating him a a reboot button
Well it's mostly because he has a OP power set. You can't just Nerf him altogether and be beaten by a regular common criminal like how the CW did
@@ultron_sigmathis is why OP characters aren’t really that interesting in general. Unless it’s like one punch man where that’s the entire point of the character is being OP and the story is centered around that.
I wish I could be as disconnected from reality as a Hollywood executive is.
Meanwhile many movies worked that never should have for superheroes by taking a risk and being good.
well that explains why his CW series only lasted NINE SEASONS!
@ still there was something of an audience. And if the character in the movie had been written well regardless of power level I’d be fine
@@jayguero2123still hade enough watching for 9 seasons
Oh please, the only people who hate The Flash is DC
Nobody hates the flash it’s just they made a trash ass movie that’s there fault It didn’t feel like a flash movie it felt like a weird CGI movie
DC treat him as a reset button, Reddit treats him as a face for the "Speedster Bad" Brigade.
The reason the flash film had failed is because a bad script, poor cgi effects, and the main lead making the Barry Allen character look so dumb when it came to his decisions. Not to mention the waste of other cameo characters that served no purpose to the bad plot and where Batman (Keaton) and Supergirl (Callie) take the spotlight away from the main character, who is the star, in his own film.
cant believe this is the guy directing brave and the bold
Oh no. You’re scaring me.
People love Flash...
What they don't like are problematic actors and bad movies.
Don't let this director cook again.
The movie failed not because people don't like Flash, but because:
- Ezra Miller compromised himself in the eyes of society;
- Warners kicked out all the unsullied actors like Cavill and canceled their projects;
- The movie was remade a bunch of times and it resembled a stupid hodgepodge;
- The movie was about something everyone had seen in the TV series and animation;
- A reboot was announced, which made the movie unnecessary;
- Warner Bros. and DC Studios are idiots who don't know what they want.
I was disappointed that the Flash didn’t flash us once in the movie. 2/10
Same . I grew up with Wally west Flash in Justice League Unlimited and didn't know a thing about Barry Allen Flash until Flashpoint Paradox
THE PLOT SUCKED, PERIOD
@@DegenerateJay Facts dude greatly said 🔥💯
Even though the cw flash was on 9 seasons it was heavily criticized for most of its run by fans and by the 9th season it lost a lot of viewers the better tv flash was John Wesley shipp because he had to actually bring it during a time when the genre was mainstream like it is today even though the budget was a big factor in it not going beyond season one cause as John has stated it was one of if not the most expensive shows being made in 1990 and it wasn’t basically a teen soap opera show with superheroes
People don’t hate the character of the flash, there are many reasons why this movie failed and the character isn’t one of them that’s a dumb statement from the director.
Reasons why it failed
6.bad cgi and disrespectful cameos
7. Isn’t a solo film about the flash
And this is the guy who was or is meant to direct Batman brave and the bold.
The hate was for Ezra Miller not the character.
I actually liked flash . I saw it in 4dx . It was cool . I can see how people won’t like it due to miller though
I prefer the other actor who played the flash in the tv show
It didnt fail because we dont like the Flash character.
It failed because we didnt like their portrayal of him.
They got rid of Henry cavil as superman the new dude looks corny
I didn't see the film when it came out and I still haven't watched it specifically due to the news of Ezra Miller's criminal actions. That happened before and during the filming of the Flash movie I morally felt that by seeing the film I would be condoning/rewarding Ezra's actions when he was making the film. I believe that to be the main reason why the film flopped besides the bad feedback from people who saw the film.
The flash movie sucks is because nobody likes the actor not the character.
Ah yes, people hate the flash as a character. That’s why they made 9 seasons of a TV show about him.
I enjoy creature commandos
All I wanted was a proper Flash movie with him vs The Rogues, but instead it seems like DC/WB are only interested in Flash and only pull him out when they need to reset everything
One thing I liked was that they flash was Latino I thought that v was cool
The movie was a mess, the story wasn't good, CGI was terrible, Ezra Miller was miscast as Flash, I found him annoying and insufferable.
Remember, this is the same director James Gunn chose for the upcoming Batman movie….
Yeah it's like the generation that grew up on watching Justice League/Unlimited are now adults and would of course care about a Flash movie, it's the other factors that fucked things up for it
What's with these directors coming out and blaming people for their failure?
First James Mangold for Indiana Jones 5
Then Sony CEO coming out and saying it's y'all faults for the Sony Marvel films failing
And now Andy saying this about fans for Flash failing
Well let’s just hope that Flash is done justice in the DCU.
@@DegenerateJay exactly brother
“People don’t like the character who got 9 seasons on network television”
I wonder what he would say about the flash tv show and how it got 9 seasons lol because it was definitely loved its first few seasons
Just because the show got 9 seasons doesn’t mean it was a good show look at supernatural it got 15 seasons and a lot of it was terrible according to fans the cw had a bad habit of keeping show on well past their prime
@ my guy I literally said the show was loved at the beginning hinting that it wasn’t towards the end but my argument is if no one loved the character of flash why did a tv show do well revolving him
The problem with dc is the lack of synergy
They spent more time money and effort on promotion then the actual movie
I think it was just DCEU fatigue. Like how there is MCU fatigue now. If the movie had great word of mouth, it would have succeeded.
The only reason i haven’t watched the movie and never will is because of Ezra Miller
The actor is the reason , the flash is one of my favorite characters.
Yes, Antman should have been Hank and he should have created Altron.
The flash is literally the most popular DC hero that’s not the trinity.
It was just terribly done is all.
it failed because they had an actual predator be the main character.
the movie looked bad and that version of the Flash was just never popular. even before the ezra miller controversy most discussions were negative towards that flash. there was no way this movie wpuld ever do well, especially with how public the troubles with the production were.
edit: even wonder woman is usually underserved by DC, theyre mostly the Superman and Batman company. like WW has merch bc shes their "girl hero" but even then she shares space with Catwoman and Harley
also what youre doing with the store, taking old damaged stuff is awesome
To say this in 2025 is insane. The Guardians of the Galaxy were D-listers...the very definition of 'the general public doesn't care about these characters'...and that trilogy made $2.5 billion. Even Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor were B-listers, at best. The Flash is SO MUCH bigger for DC than any of those characters ever were for Marvel, pre-MCU. If you make a great movie, people will care about the characters. Period.
I am very nervous about Andy Muschietti handling Batman and his comments on the Flash movie don’t really help my apprehension
Multi million dollar film directors cope harder because you couldn’t do simple history homework.
Movie was'nt that bad. But to see this guy instead of Grant Gustin felt wrong. Suit was awful and i don't wanna start on the effects,...
Best thing was to see Keaton in action
People hated the gay actor who definitely had mental issues
I didn’t hate it just growing up watching the flash tv show grant was my flash then hearing about the erza stuff didn’t help then I saw it and it definitely wasn’t good🤣I think blue Beatle was way better
It failed because they kept a known peedo!
It felt more like it should’ve been a Justice League movie instead of a solo
Flash movie, anyway fantastic video Jay keep up the great work
I know I don't speak for all women, but as a female myself, Flash has always been my favorite character.
