I almost choked when you talked about the bug poo! It came at just the right time. Up until now, everything I've framed I've put under glass, but then recently began to quesiton if that was the right thing to do. After listening to you, the pieces I recently framed myself without glass, are going to my local shop to get the glass cut! Very erudite explanation!

Thank you, Nicola, for the tutorial on needles and floss. It was very informative since I have never stitched with silk, nor done anything over one. After today’s lesson, I feel more confident in choosing the correct silks when I decide to use them for a project. You are a true treasure to this community!

You are SO right, Nicola, when you speak about how often stitchers psyche themselves out of trying linen or higher counts or over one etc etc….
I encountered this often when I was teaching and students would convince themselves they couldn’t read Shakespeare or write a type of poem or sonnet, and then when they DID, they were so proud of themselves (justifiably so). Anyway - I did want to add that I’m using the Soie 100.3 silks for the first time and I’m finding that stitching the over one text is so enjoyable with this silk! I honestly think I’ll be using this for all samplers in the future, and may not have ever tried it if I hadn’t joined the SAL for Sarah Rinder. Thank you for encouraging us and for sharing the information on threads and needles!!

Thank you Nicola for the over one encouragement. I’ve been avoiding Hannah because of all of the over one. I’ve done much over one, but I think social media has got into my head. Your positivity spurs me along. So, my decision on 46 count is to do the birds in tent stitch with 100/3, and to do the alphabet in surfine. In hindsight, I had told myself a month or so ago, that I should try to figure out the surfine conversion, but it wasn’t until I’ve bought the kit that a conversion surfaced. Due to financial belt tightening, I bought only the 2773. It should be fine. Now back to stitching! On another note, the fly poop story was awesome. My friend and I went to my framer to get her antique framed. Originally, she didn’t want glass. I shut my mouth as it’s not my money. My framer, bless her heart, explained why she needed glass. She conceded! I told her to watch your video today to hear another reason for glass!

Thank you for the explaining the correct needle size. I like using 45 count linen and Soie 1003 and experienced the frustration of the thread coming out of the needle’s eye. I don’t have a local needlework shop and cross stitch is not a popular hobby where I live so any knowledge is accumulated from what is shared on you tube and by making mistakes. Thank you very much for teaching us!

Thanks for another great video, Nicola. It was very helpful to hear which threads are best with which fabrics, as well as needle suggestions. Was kind of you to encourage stitchers not to be scared of over 1 stitching. It's all about attitude and sometimes a bit practice (and, as you say, the right threads and needles) till you get it right and it feels comfortable. And if these young girls could do it, then certainly we can too 😀 Take care, and happy stitching.

what a great "learning" video about so many things. Always enjoy a visit with you but this one was a real confidence builder about the over one which I avoid vehemently. Sometimes I won't buy a sampler (like the gorgeous Hannah Campbell) because of the over one. not a fan - however I will try and look at it from a "can do" prospective and see how it goes. Always a pleasure and it was great to see your view out the windows - magnificent ! enjoy all your upcoming activities
