    Me: folding a paper plane. Flies like a small stone, only not in the direction you throw it. Unfolds in 2 secs.
    This guy: folding the freakin' facial expressions and wardrobe details of the knights.
    You know it has to be good, when the time lapse alone takes 50+ minutes. Excellent work, sir.

    If you watch the video frame-by-frame (you can do this in UA-cam by pausing the image and pressing pediod key near the letter M), you basically get step-by-step instructions to recreate this work. It takes about 72000 (about 50 minutes * 60 seconds * 24 fps) steps to complete the work. That big lego set with 1000 page instruction manual suddenly seems pretty easy.

    • @JuhoKonkkola
      @JuhoKonkkola  2 роки тому +4

      Hahahaha, finally someone putting it into a perspective! You are not too far off with your calculating, I filmed 78482 frames in total for the time lapse (although some of them were cut off while filming and some in editing, such as me going around the room instead of folding while the camera was filming). The filming alone brought me many challenges and I had to do some compromises to have less interruption in folding and create a time lapse in a manageable way. The piece really has thousands of steps, the pre creasing alone has 5377 individual crease lines, before the square is folded to anything.

      You can find books by robert lang on how origami can be designed. Very shortly: you can divide a model in a series of flaps+a central body (example with a human: central body with five flaps, one short, two medium and two long ones). Each flap, when "eploded" on the sheet of paper, can be contained in a circle (there are theorems about this stuff). Thus, one you know the number and size of the flaps is just a matter of packing the circles in a large enough sheet (and then folding it, and then do all the details)!
