Nicely done!!
Great great tutorial! Made me wanna buy 2 of those compressors! Thanks
Very nice video Jerry!
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
Nice vid!
Really wanted to hear a demo of it on drum bus, gtr bus, key bus, vocal bus and bvox bus.
Still a great demo!
Hello! Help me choose! I want to buy a compressor to use exclusively during vocal recording, to slightly cut the peaks. For the same purposes as for you, which you talked about in this video of yours. But I have a difficult choice, I have to choose between Golden Age Project comp-3A Jr or Golden Age Project Comp 3A. Please advise! Thank you!
Awesome Video. I wanted to ask how can i route my signal like you? I have a preamp, soon a compressor and an audio interface and would like to use my compressor as you seem to do it. a) while speaking/recording b) as effect from my daw. thank you and kind regards
Hi so what i do is connect the microphone into the xlr input of the preamp. Than go line level out into my compressor. Than i go line out into the line in of my interface.
Nice
Is this compressor noise? And how does the sound compare to the comp 3 A?
This is not noisy and has a very smooth color. Its a little snappier than a la2a but it makes it alot more flexable for modern music. I like it in fast mode being used for about 3 to 5 db of compresson when i want it gentle
Awesome! Though i will buy it's father the 3A:)
Really good video. 💜
Thank you let me know if you want anything else like this.
In the DAW I really dig your hardware reviews/tutorials. 1 question do you know if the jr does has the same color if driven hard like de big brother has?
Yes It does have color and due to the opto photo cell it gets very gooy and can even saturate in a decent way but due to the smaller and simpler build it won't saturate as much. But yes it does just not as much as the bigger versions
In the DAW Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I think the Jr will make it into my Live set up thanks to you.
I'm glad I could help. It's a great peace of gear that can be transparent or colored just remember its easy to over compress things because its able to sound so smooth
What's going on with the meters though? Why are they constantly lit up?
I have it on gain reduction mode for metering. All the way up means no gain reduction. On the right of the led you will see a gr and it shows 0,3,6,9,12 and 18 that's how much gr is going on.
@@IntheDAW Thanks I see now, that's a very strange way of them doing the meters when most people would expect it to be no lights and then lighting up for gain reduction!
Normally it would be with a separate led being used for gain reduction. This unit uses the same meters as either level or gain reduction kind of like when you have a Vu meter and set it to gain reduction mode and it sits at zero and goes down. I like it. But it is weird lol.
I have the bigger comp 3A I use it alot on vox
it's a fantastic unit!
Very good results. I probably would've had a tick more gain reduction, but that's just me.
The good thing about this kinda compresson is you can totally get away with more gain reduction.
Hi. I'm thinking of buying a compressor and I'm torn between Comp 3A Jr and RNC1773. My chain is SM7B-->PRE73 Premier-->Audio Interface. What would you recommend if I mainly use this for live/voiceover/streaming? Would I be benefitted from Comp 3A Jr's coloration in this chain, or I would be better off sticking to a transparent comp like RNC1773? Thank you very much in advance.
@@user-yt7xw7cw3p I really like the 3a because it has some nice color and is flexible. The rnc is good but I also don't like it's connection points
@@IntheDAW You know, for live streaming, compression seems more tricky because sometimes you cannot predict when you will scream or shout, so I guess controlling the dynamics becomes top priority. RNC is powerful in this aspect due to its maximum 25:1 ratio; but do you think 3A is capable enough in this regard?
@user-yt7xw7cw3p 3a is very capable it actually does an amazing job as making sure the levels don't go past where you set them and you can get away with lots of gain reduction. Rnc is a very good but don't rely on ratios as it can sometimes sound very very aggressive in a bad way. If you really want maximum flexibility rnc if you want something that's easy to set and sounds good almost every time the 3a
@@IntheDAW Thank you so much! I think I will purchase 3A soon.
