- Southern California playing with the kids on the beach when I stepped directly on a Stingray. I happened to have the Gopro rolling and caught it all on video. It was like I was on Shark week!

Actually Stingrays don't sting, thay actually have little barbs on their tail that they wack you with and those barbs have venom on it and it feels like a sting. Science Fact of the Day.

I just got stung a couple weeks ago in San Diego. I'd never even heard about stingrays in such shallow water. Had to do the hot water thing for 2.5 hours. The wound is taking its precious time to heal as well.
wow what beach did you get stung at? i was at Carona Del Mar and i was stung in the shallows as well i was about waist deep when it happened and then yeah hot water for about an hour for me and then within the next week i was feeling back to normal hope your recovery is going well and thanks for watching

@@rj32 Hi there, I was stung on Sunday at corona Del Mar. I recovered well, however it is still bruised. It's not the end of the world, however the surprise of sharp pain suddenly made us realized that the ocean is full of life and this things happens. I could describe the pain as if I had stepped on a knife or a broken glass... after 1 hour in hot water and washing well in the shower things got settled. For those out there Sting ray stung is not that bad... its just an unpredictable surprise. Regards

Since this sting ray was small, it did not hurt as bad. there was a lot of blood because the venom in the sting ray tail makes you bleed more. I am doing much better now. Here’s a way to prevent this: My Poppa told me when i was a kid was “When you go to the beach and you’re in the water is to not take steps but slide your feet across the ocean floor.”

Steve Irwin always said he had a special place in his heart for stingrays.
and i can understand why he was an animal lover showing us that a lot of times we can judge them as being dangerous or aggressive towards humans but he showed us how to co exist with some of these so called dangerous animals and proves the have a calm nice side to them too he was quite the inspiration to me and to many others gonna miss that guy….

bodus There are flies that eat your fresh raw around stationary bodies of water (Pools belong in that category). And sure, if they were a lethal bunch, the whole thing would be a far bigger deal; this way we just shrug it off as an inconvenience of going to the pool. But that does not change the fact that those nasty assholes bite into you and chances are, if your first reaction to that wasn't to try and swat the thing, they wouldn't just stop there.

Wow, I never realized how perfectly camouflaged stingrays are from above the water, matching in both color and shape with how the water moves and reflects lights off its many diamond-shaped disturbances. Even this one's size seems perfect against water this shallow.
Of course, I doubt stingrays adapted over millions of years to blend in from above the surface, since there wouldn't be any predators there. But still interesting.

My dad is a fisherman and since i was a child i have seen big flounders in my house.
.... for me is really easy to know if i am seeing a flounder or a sting gray... ACTUALLY IS VERY DIFICULT TO SEE A FLOUNDER NEAR TO THE BEACH BECAUSE THEY LIVE MORE DEEP IN THE OCEAN... SO clearly for me it was a sting gray but this man dont know about sting grays and where they leave and enjoy to stay. and where lives the flounder...I always wear shoes when i go to the beach because i know that stings will be there... i have 30 years old and i have never been sting..... just be smart.... and watch your step. I am from MEXICO IN THE STATE OF SONORA.

it was hard not to cry my head off to be honest on the inside it felt like someone was cutting my foot of slowly with a red hot knife and then i had to soak it in hot water which made it worse but in the end i took it as a learning experience and also gave me a ton of respect for this creature
My young daughter was stung by a stingray in Key Biscayne several years ago. By the time we got to the hospital my daughter was begging us to cut her foot off. The nurse knew exactly what to do, put her foot in a tub of hot water and Epson salt. There was no barb, so no other treatment was required. The nurse said she had seen grown men cry after being stung.
mfisher1967 Youch. Back in my diving days I got knifed by one on my right side in the hip. I assumed it was a Ray. It was Winter here in my part of the world and the water was too soupy to tell. I also used to get wounded by little things all the time in the colder months while crawling deep on the sandy limestone reef. I was always leaving the water bleeding. I used to think it was just reef cuts but in hindsight the pain was more intense than reef cuts and the cuts were quite deep and they often got infected. I think they were little Rays jabbing at me. But of course I could not see them in the soupy water.

yeah I live in Australia and I have seen snakes hide behind the shed in my back yard but I like snakes, spiders, sharks and other creatures that eat human flesh usually if you leave them alone they will do the same to you(just watch your step), oh and my cat kills snakes sometimes

Glad to hear it, those stingrays are mean! Whenever you go back there, if you go back there, look for wide fins, and try not to make sudden movements around it. Most animals jump and either attack or run when afraid.
+rj32 If you're ever in water you suspect to have sting rays, shuffle your feet while you walk through the sand, it should spook them before you reach them!
craziest part is how eager that cop was to help stop the murderer from being hurt...

Since this sting ray was small, it did not hurt as bad. there was a lot of blood because the venom in the sting ray tail makes you bleed more. I am doing much better now.
