I live in Dresden and I'm often in the Saxon Switzerland. I love to see my region through the eyes of people, who've been here for the first time. It bring's back the magical feeling of my homeregion.. Thank you for this beautiful video ~
Oh my - this was absolutely breathtaking! This was so beautiful and ever so relaxing. Love that you and Rob were able to get away and take us with you lbvs
Tack så mycket för att du delar med dig av din resa! Brukar själv åka till Tyskland (och Österrike) ganska mycket, men ofta till samma ställen. Nu har jag fått lite idéer på andra ställen att besöka :)
Everything looks so beautiful. I think the mix of nature, food and history is perfect for holidays. I'm from Germany but have never been to the eastern parts for holiday. I has been on my list but now you really inspired me to plan something. For us it is also very important that we could get around without a car.
The Sauna in Schmilka is very nice, sad that you haven´t get the chance to try it. The cakes in Cafe Richter are very nice. After watching the video im not sure where to go in autumn. Back to Saxony as in May this year or to Oberstdorf, Bavaria for hiking in the Alps. That will be a hard decition. Thank you for bringing back the beautiful memories
I am so amazed at how you can transfer the beauty of rainy weather in your videos! Like seriously, sometimes I am like "Oh, I want to visit it when it rains!"
Haha yes, I am so glad you feel that way! It has been such a dry spring and summer so far, up until just the other day, so to finally see the rain and enjoy the moodiness with all the mist in Germany actually felt like a treat. It really was beautiful to be in the National Park when we had most of it as well, just felt right. It was only a shame that it changed our plans a little so we couldn't show you all that we wanted. Just a reason to go back again though :) And I do wish you get to experience that kind of misty and rainy beauty in that national park one day! x
Yay, I'm so glad you say that! It really is fun to explore places a little off the beaten path. We also love spending time in nature's beauty so the national park was a real treat for us :) x
Schmilka looks AMAZING. Ohm should definitely consider adding vegan options because you meal looked incredible! The Castle was Beautiful! Thanks for sharing your adventures, Looks Spectacular!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful trip. The scenery is stunning, I didn t know these places. So quiet and beautiful, it makes dream and think about holidays...A pleasure to watch. ❤❤❤❤
I'm so ghlad you enjoyed the video! I didn't know of these places previously either but am so happy that we got the opportunity to visit them and explore because it really was a beautiful trip. So much charm in the little towns in Saxony and lots of natural beauty :) x
That is my absolute pleasure! I'm glad you enjoy coming along :) I can see why she fell in love - there's so much to see and so much beauty. We visited Bremen last year and really enjoyed that trip too! x
Oh wow this really made me want to visit!!! The National park with the sandstone mountains and that beautiful medieval castle were my favorites - I’ve got to get myself to Germany one of these days!
Thank you so much for this beautiful video! Took me back in time to I when made a trip to Saxon Switzerland with a friend years ago. We hiked from Rathen to Schmilka with some in-between stops and even stayed at the same hotel in Schmilka. It was lovely!
That is our pleasure and we're so glad it brought back fond memories! I wish we had booked a night or two more in Schmilka so that we could explore more of the national park but there's always next time. The hike you did sounds lovely! x
Wonderful trip and video, Malin. We live in Berlin and have been meaning to explore this area, so now I think I'm just going to plan a trip following in your footsteps. Thank you!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Susan! Lucky you living in such a fun city and planning a trip to Saxony sounds lovely too. I wholeheartedly recommend it of course having just had such wonderful experiences. If you go to the national park I really recommend spending at least a couple of night there, one night was a bit short. Such a lovely spot to wind down and enjoy some natural beauty. I really hope you get to make your trip soon and that you enjoy when you do! x
We actually had a phase of bad weather in Saxony until recently. But currently the weather is very nice again. Saxon Switzerland is really a fascinating place. As so often I was hiking there today. However, it's very important to know that as a tourist, it's essential to know someone who knows the area well and who will tell you the really beautiful places. Tourist hotspots, such as the Bastei in Rathen, have nothing to do with the true Saxon Switzerland, which only begins in the Kirnitzsch Valley (Kirnitzschtal) behind the small town Bad Schandau. The most important centerpiece of Saxon Switzerland are the *Schrammsteine;* only those who have hiked over them have experienced Saxon Switzerland. Unfortunately, however, we have had a horrendous bark beetle infestation in the last 4 years; and until the tree population has eventually recovered it's still a very depressing sight. As the most beautiful and at the same time very inexpensive accommodation I would recommend to foreign tourists the *Buschmühle* in the Kirnitzsch Valley (Kirnitzschtal), although I'm not sure whether the staff there understands English sufficiently. Kate Winslet stayed there for 4 weeks for the movie "The Reader". Best regards from Dresden :)
It really was and yes, there were some beautiful touches to our experience in Schmilka. I want to go back again and just read in the hammock all day and then chill out at another sound meditation, haha! x
I greatly appreciate your travel videos, including your insights on what went well and what you may have done differently. My husband is originally from northern Germany and we look forward to exploring new parts of the country, aside from visiting family. It makes it more like a vacation when we also have some time on our own, to explore and relax. I will look into your suggested sites! Thank you.
Thank you for this lovely feedback - I'm so glad that you enjoy the videos! I really hope you find the tips and links useful and that next time you spend time in Germany that you get to see some new spots. It sounds lovely to take some alone time too when visiting family and have time to reflect before going back home :) x
What lovely towns! Beautiful visuals as usual. I feel like I’m there! I’ll be watching again on my big screen. It’s been a bit sunny-but-gloomy here due to wildfire smoke. Watching this beautiful nature in our current situation makes me want to keep doing more to preserve and enjoy what we have.
There really was a lot of beauty all around in Saxony, all very charming too. Hope you enjoy it even more the second time around :) I'm very sorry to hear about the wildfires and smoke but I think it's great that it's given you some inspiration for action towards preservation. It really can feel so scary when wildfires, floods and other natural disasters are happening and to feel paralysed rather than the opposite so I applaud your attitude! x
@@GoodEatings thanks Malin. This situation opened my eyes - here in nyc it’s so urban, so it’s easy to forget about “the planet”. I’m ashamed to say I felt so far removed from natural disasters (even though we get bad flooding and hurricanes). But in reality we’re all directly affected and should act that way. On that note - I found a monthly park cleanup to join and a new local farmers market with a textile recycling program in the park across from my home. Taking baby steps!
The Vegan food looks so classy. Beautiful places with delicious and clean eats. I am glad Germany is opening doors to vegan foods because the highest death rate in Germany used to be coronary artery disease from the high meat and dairy intake.
Your videos are always so elegant and well shot! It makes me want to book a tour right now! I will definitely put Saxon region on my list 😅. Thank you for sharing! 😊
Aw, thank you for these kind words! So glad the video enticed you to look into Saxony - there really was much to see and I wouldn't mind going back soon myself :) x
Your videos paint such a romantic picture and capture the essence of these places. I have to say, it's charming and relaxing to watch; The shots and editing make it such a pleasure. As someone who moved to Dresden a few years ago and fell in love with the city and its surroundings, I can tell you've done your research and dug a beneath the surface, going to most of the places I would recommend others to go to, include some hidden gems. Easily the best food and travel guide I've seen of Dresden and the surrounding area yet. :)
Yay, I am so glad you enjoyed this one in particular even though the spots were a bit off the beaten track :) I'm realising that is actually more interesting as a viewer maybe and we certainly enjoyed it! x
I just loved your videos on Dresden and surrounding areas.Im actually going to Dresden in a few weeks for 2 nights.I know it’s winter time so it won’t look as green and colourful but it looks like a great city to visit anyway.I may also take a little day trip to Meissen as that castle looks super cool .You have a lovely calm way of presenting your videos and your husband is a great videographer too.Safe travels Sharon from Ireland 🇮🇪 😊
In Eastern Germany in particular, if you're leaving more traditionally touristy areas, not everyone will speak English. Most of the older generations were not taught English during the DDR and it took a while for quality English classes to take root in schools in Eastern Germany. Don't let that scare you off from visiting, however. It's worth a little bit of awkwardness!
Ah yes, Schorle and mixed naked sauna are some of the things I miss about Germany :D It looked like a wonderful trip! Very inspired to explore this part of my home land now :)
Haha, I'm more about the schorle and less about the naked sauna but maybe one day I'll feel more relaxed in that type of setting! It really was a lovely trip and I hope you get to explore the area soon :) x
Such a beatiful trip ❤ great video, I love calm vibe. I wonder, was the gluten free options harder to find then vegan ones? Last year I was visiting Berlin for few days and gluten free options were not that common.
It really was :) So glad you enjoyed the video too! It was pretty okay to find gluten free options in Dresden - Alua had delicious house made gluten free bread especially. The options are of course fewer when you want to combine finding vegan food that is also gluten free but I find that most places were really accommodating. If I'm not sure when planning I usually reach out to the places I want to visit beforehand and check with them if they have anything on offer. I do love to plan ahead though and realise this is not for everyone, haha! x

What an amazing trip. Places under the rain can be so interesting. All your vegan meals looked very yummy. Meditation the ice cake. Thank you, Malin❤

Inspirational and beautifully filmed video, Mailin & Rob! It was lovely to follow you along. Enjoy the summer wherever you are!
This was great, love seeing the places you visit and the things you eat!
I enjoy all your travel videos but this one is my favorite! It’s more fun for me to see places not as well known or touristy.
Yay, I'm so glad you say that! It really is fun to explore places a little off the beaten path. We also love spending time in nature's beauty so the national park was a real treat for us :) x

That's one of THE HIGHEST quality travel vlogs I've seen in my life! Just WOW! 10x thumbs up, Malin & Rob!
What a wonderful vacation! I love the smoothly bar, the hammock chair in your hotel room, and especially the sound meditation!
