Thank you for sharing this video. I still have my 2004 (14 years in June this year)1.4i with aircon just like yours😊 I have the factory radio though. Just over 300 000km now. Still original. Engine never done. A lot of cool road trips including some pretty sketchy dirt track driving too. Had issues from time to time. But for now starts and runs like a dream. Serviced by vw up until the last 4 years or so.
This is not an '03 model. The '03 model had the classic square dash and that was before the rear wiper assembly was moved onto the window itself. Judging from the rear lights, this is either a '04, '05 or early '06. In '06, VW SA redesigned the rear lights with a round insert for the brake lights for a more modern look. I have an '03 carburetor 1.4 with 270 000km on and it still runs great...
According to the licence registration certificate it is a 2003, I will dig out the paper and report back to you if I am wrong, I am a big Golf 1 fan and had a 1979 1.1 LS, 1981 GTS, and a 1983 GTI. I lost track with all the face lifts of the Citigolf in last view years of manufacturing
Sold my 2005 1.4i back in 2015 for R50k. Genuine showroom condition. Sold it to the first caller. Had seat covers from day one and only 54000km on it. Should have kept it. They were simple and enjoyable cars to drive.
Thse little SOHC engines along with Opel astra F SOHC engines are bulletproof to work on and they last a very very long time. I have a project 1.4 I.S opel astra sedan on 380000km's still hauling ass at 220/kph
I really don't know, VW South Africa manufactured this Golf 1's for many years up to 2009, the Golf MK4 or 5 was already on the market while we still built the Golf 1 as an affordable new car with many face-lifts and improvements, may be the speedo was a preferred one or local design.
Jip that is true, you can google VW Velocity, VW Sonic, Blues and a view more, they have nice upgraded headlights, rear light design, front and rear spoilers, aircon, improved air vents in side, all fuel injection 14i, 16i and a 1.8i. Central locking with remote control. Duel exhaust pipes, nice magnesium rims, real affordable value in a sporty package..VW South Africa sold thousands of the models for years, they were very popular and still today have very good second hand value. Thanks for the reply.

Nice bro, I got a velo with 119k on the clock last week
I like how it has dashboard from Škoda Fabia (first gen). It has different placing of air condition button.
Yes the last models came out with that dashboard, it looks great in these Golf 1's

Probably swapped the old square dash to the new spec dash that's why km is so low

Jan Kotze Wow that's really wierd. In 2004 the VW Golf V (5) was introduced to the Danish market. I think the VW Golf I was from like 1980'ies.
