I grew up across form a wetlands and we always had painted turtles in our yard along with frogs and the occasional snapping turtle. Thank you for helping the pond turtles.
Pierce Cedar Creek Nature Preserve near Hastings, MI has a similar program for endangered Eastern Box turtles. They hire college students who do research and they gathered newly hatched turtles, kept them at John Ball zoo until they were big enough to better defend themselves, then released them with tracking equipment glued to their shells. Turns out that survival rates shot up with just a few months protected growth, very interesting research. ua-cam.com/video/NQocFB3aJhY/v-deo.html Small efforts can make a big difference!
I just reported a western painted turtle sighting this weekend. I wish those 11 pond turtles the best of luck on their new lease. :) Also, congrats on Measure 26-244 passing!
