Hi so I put my list and then went into detail on why below 1. Sci-fi: 2001 a space odyssey 2. Animated: the incredibles 3. Drama: the master 4. Romance: in the mood for love 5. Action: raiders of the lost arc 6. Comedy: mean girls 7. Adventure: Indiana Jones and the last crusade 8. Comic book: the dark knight 9. Horror: suspiria (1977) 10. Western: for a few dollars more 11. Musical: the sound of music 12. Fantasy: pans labyrinth 13. Thriller: gone girl 1. I have only seen this film once but it’s instantly rememberable. Despite going in knowing so much about it, it still amazed me and scenes I knew about felt exciting and more brilliant than I realized. It’s a rather high concept film but it tells its story and ideas with amazing visuals 2. The incredibles is the first movie I ever got on dvd and I watched it so many times and love to this day 3. The master is in my opinion the second best film ever made, first doesn’t really follow these genres. It’s by probably my favorite director Paul Thomas Anderson and has some of the best acting ever put on screen with some of the most gorgeous 60 mm shots ever to be put on screen. 4. In the mood for love is a sort of anti romance of 2 people trying really hard not to fall in love and you just yelling at the screen to just kiss and admit you like each other. 5. Raiders is tied for my favorite film, I remember after watching the Star Wars films the first time learning about raiders and watching it and just being blown away. I grew up in a way with the prequels so I had seen a lot of Star Wars already and this just shocked me with how fun and exciting it was. I was on the edge of my seat the whole film and I immediately had to go and get the rest of them. 6. Mean girls is one of those films where quotes just become part of popular culture and people just know what you mean. 7. I can never decide if I like this or raiders more and I grew up with just my dad so the father son relationship really means a lot to me here. 8. The dark knight is the dark knight what’s not to like. 9. Just the best score ever recorded and some of the best horror scenes ever and the best lighting for a movie ever. This took my favorite film spot from Indians Jones and it’s just so creepy and fun and everything I want from horror. On the side though if you what creepy the descent 10. The second Sergio Leone western I think is his best. I need to see first full of dynamite and a couple other spaghetti westerns and some other American but this is my favorite right now. Such a great blend of cool moments and thrilling edge of your seat tension. 11. It has everything you would ever want from a movie 12. Not that much of a fantasy movie person so this dark and creepy one is my favorite 13. It was this or zodiac or dragoon tattoo but this one is my favorite mostly just from how much I loved the book
Great list! These tag videos have been a lot of fun to watch. The only one I haven't seen is Mission Impossible Fallout, as I still need to work my way through all the MI movies, but everything else, I've seen and really enjoy! It's hard to narrow it down to just one for each genre though, haha.
Thank you! Yeah, this was a wicked hard list to come up with. I have such a hard time narrowing movies down like this and I'm very envious of people who can do it easily haha
Was that shade towards the Movie Nerds Club I heard?! 😝 Love the list! I THINK I have my picks worked out . . . Now just to actually film and edit . . .

My film knowledge is more post 21st century, but I'll give it a go: Science Fiction -- Interstellar (2014)/Contact (1997) Animation -- Chicken Run (2000) Drama -- Shawshank Redemption (1994) Romance -- About Time (2013) Action -- Casino Royale (2006) Comedy -- Hot Fuzz (2006) Adventure -- Brothers Bloom (2009) Comic Book -- V for Vendetta (2006) Horror -- The Witch (2015) Western -- The Hateful Eight (2015) Musical -- The Polar Express (2004) Fantasy -- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) Thriller -- Spotlight (2015)/Official Secrets (2019)/10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) Adding my own extra genre: Biographical -- All the President's Men (1976) Thrillers are my bread and butter so I can't narrow it down to one, but all are pretty different. Great video and discussion idea!
Nice list, definitely some really good ones in there! Super hard to narrow down to just one for these, isn't it? I was agonizing over a few of my picks haha
Awesome video Alyssa! Here's my list: *Science Fiction:* Jurassic Park *Animation:* The Lion King (1994) *Drama:* Dead Poets Society *Romance:* The Proposal *Action:* Black Panther (I know this is technically a comic book movie, but it could count as an action flick) *Comedy:* Beetlejuice *Adventure:* Princess Mononoke *Comic Book:* The Dark Knight *Horror:* The Shining *Musical:* The Wizard of Oz *Fantasy:* Spirited Away *Thriller:* Get Out
Thank you! Great list, definitely quite a few on there that I would've put on mine if this was expanded to a Top 5 per genre list. Nice to see animation popping up in multiple categories for you.
Amazing picks Alyssa. I know how hard it is to try and pick just one for each genre and I too had to go with genre-blends for most of my picks. I mean how often do we get a film that’s exclusive to one genre? 🤷♂️😆 hahaha Thank you so much for the kind words and for taking part in the challenge. I loved hearing your thoughts on each genre and selection- you have the most eloquent vocabulary which I deeply admire. And I’m so glad we share 3 top picks! 😁 I so agree The Dark Knight is probably everybody’s no#1 for comic book but there’s a reason. 🃏 Fallout was smashing pick for action. 👊🏻👍🏼 and yes for the Willy wonka love!!! I also love that movie and I’ve grown to like it even more as an adult too, I need to check out a couple of the channels you tagged now ☺️ I’m also so mad I forgot to mention Back to the Future in mine! Hahahaha well done again friend- amazing video 💙 xx
Thanks so much, Luke! 😊 And thanks again for tagging me - this was a lot of fun. Hard as hell, but fun haha. It's funny because as I was making my choices, I was honestly struggling to think of "pure" movies for some of these genres. I actually almost forgot about Willy Wonka! I had a different movie planned that I wasn't super enthused about and then it popped into my head last minute as a very "Duh!" moment haha. I'm also so glad you mentioned Pan's Labyrinth in yours as fantasy because even though it's very obviously a fantasy film, I don't think I would have thought of that one for the genre myself even though it's one of my absolute favorites 😆 Oh yes please do, they're fantastic! Seriously, if you want eloquent vocabulary, you're going to love Daisuke. He doesn't do anything flashy with his videos, but his knowledge of film and ability to just talk about any movie completely off the cuff in single, long takes still blows my mind. He's also probably the nicest person I've ever met in my life 😆 Cineflect is also super eloquent too and makes some amazing video essays. Back to the Future is one that could be in so many different genres that it's a hard one to come up with when you're focusing on thinking of solitary-genre films! Thanks again! 🧡
My picks: Sci-fi- Star Wars (1977) Animation- The Lion King (1994) Drama- The Godfather (1972) Romance- Casablanca (1942) Action- Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) Comedy- Spaceballs (1986) Adventure- Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Comic Book- The Dark Knight (2008) Horror- Psycho (1960) Western- The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (1966) Musical- Mary Poppins (1964) Fantasy- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003) Thriller- Se7en (1995)
My top five horror genres: Creature feature, Dark house, Slasher, Horror comedy and let's not forget Psychological horror, which I think would be like the Inner Sanctum movies or I Bury the Living
Thanks so much, Jaren! I really appreciate it. You brought me... back up to 1499. After I posted on Twitter, I predictably immediately lost a sub out of spite 😂
