I used to work there! 24 years ago. Best part of the day was deciding where to eat for lunch!
Neat! Agreed the food here is the best part of the mall
Man this made me so homesick 😢. A lot of cool new additions. Ala Moana at its prime though was the OG shirokiya days!!! $2 kirins, $2 sake, & great Japanese food.. pure nostalgia.
I miss Shirokiya!
Hi Chris. Ala Moana has evolved into a luxury mall. It's still a nice mall to check out. I don't as often and when I do,I miss Shirokiya japanese store and Woolworths. I park my car and go to the building near the parking garage for my appointments.Glad you didn't have any escalator "issues" while making this video. Thanks for sharing and take care.
Thanks James! Yes. The escalators were good to me this time 😀
I love when you run into subscribers. Your channel has been super helpful for my trip to Vegas last year, and next year I'm going to Hawaii! So I'd been looking up your previous Hawaii content but you've released all these new vids too! Lucky me! Maybe we'll bump into you on our travels one day.
Awesome Joanna! Enjoy your trip!
Awesome video Chris! I love Ala Moana!
We love, love, love that mall, it has everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! plus 2 great food courts.
Foodland Grocery Store (poke heaven) and Somi Somi downstairs (parking garage) and a Target store.
Mmmm
Really loves this mall. We actually rode on the city double decker bus to get there very nice ride for only $2 a day. So many shops and food court great options.
Nice
Love this tour! Great shopping 🛍️ mall thanks so much for posting this!
I’ve been going to Ala Moana Mall for years and never noticed how slow the escalators are until you mentioned it a billion times in this video 😂
This is the best video of Ala Moana Shopping Centre I have seen. Thank you.❤
Thanks!
Thanks for the info + video!
My wife’s grandfather was a maintenance technician when it first opened. I remember the Nordstrom was a Liberty House back in the 70’s and then it was sold to Macy’s. It’s been around five years since I last visited Ala Moana Center and it looks really different in a good way, especially the food court.
I'm going to Hawaii soon, and this video is helpful to see if my family wants to stop by there.
Wow, I just saw one of your videos and subscribed to your channel a few days ago and now you’re in my neck of the woods.
Used to go to Oahu for work fairly often. Loved walking from the hotel to Ala Moana to shop and eat. I'm a diehard Macy's shopper, and because of the large numbers of Japanese shoppers, the store always had "larger" sizes (8/10) of women's clothes plentiful on clearance.
Thanks for this video
Longs Drugs and on 11:11 -the fountain and underground area where the “air is not so nice” I think are the only remnants of old Ala Moana.
Those parts always remind me of my Grandma when she would take me there in the mid 80s 😢😢
While the mall had a lot of high end stores, it's the food courts that keep the place busy. Lots of good choices. 🤙
Agreed! Food court is my favorite spot!
This video clip brings back all those happy memories!! 2018 Jan.
Old people = slow escalators. 😁
It's funny how record-setting size, visitors, etc. can happen on a small island of a million people. I've been to some huge malls in Asia, but maybe not as much retail sq ft? Ala Moana squeezes retail in all the nooks & crannies.😂
Lahaina Chicken is my go-to on every trip. Love the prime rib. They don't call it that anymore. Maybe it's no longer prime.
You missed my favorite shop, the big island candy co. Great Mac nut shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate. They also have an 85° C, too.
They are do fill every nook and cranny here!
Chris I really hope you went back into that lucky strike to see if they had DDR or StepmaniaX!
Wow wow
Love Panda express ❤️ very yummy 😋 food
14:20…I’m guessing the Princess LOVES the cat cafe! (The highlight of my daughters recent Japan trip was the Capybara cafe in Tokyo)
I love this mall, lots of stores I can't afford but I can afford the food court, and isn't that the important thing.
31:36 Just a few steps away from the poke bar is a section with tables/chairs that you can sit down to enjoy the poke. Awesome place for a quick food/snack spot in a nicely air conditioned space.
Thanks for the tip!
Taun Taun? And you thought they smelled bad on the outside! 😁 I'll show myself to the door.
OK, so I'm going to Honolulu for the first time and thank you for the view of Ala Moana! I'm looking forward to seeing this. Do they rent scooters here? I have trouble walking long distances. Thank in advance
One of the Very few shop/browse book stores(on the island/state?) can be had at Barnes &Noble, located Mauka/Diamond Head(East end/mountain side). BTW....@ 12:25...Himalayan Kitchen offers VG Nepalese/Indian fare
Used to visit all the time
I like watching the fish by assagio
I always get lost in it
2 million square feet! I felt like I spent $2 million after walking out of there 😊
do you know how much the parking is there in the structure? We are going in december and im trying to figure out if the parking price is worth it just for a few hours
Aloha! Parking is free, the only time you have to pay is if you valet at Neiman Marcus. The parking structures in the Ewa wing and by Macy’s fill up fast, and the structure ramps by Target can get busy during peak hours. Just fyi there are a LOT of tight corners so bring lots of patience!
You miss the Japanese bakery, gas the best non baked deserts in the 🇺🇸
Going to Honolulu next year on a cruise. How far is this mall from the cruise port?
Depending on traffic, maybe a 15 minute drive? The port is in Honolulu near Aloha Tower and Ala Moana shopping center is right across the Ala Moana Beach Park.
I always enjoy your videos, especially the longer ones. And, I've gotten used to your unique vocal cadence. But, I don't think I'll get used to your hand constantly entering the frame of the picture. You seem to talk with your hands. Every once in a while if you need to point out something relevant, fine. But, you're always pointing at something and it's starting to get a little distracting. Weren't you ever told that pointing is rude? Keep up the good work, fellow explorer.
Hey I just took a trip to Yappersville and everyone there said they knew you
@@think.culture What are you, his PR rep? Goodbye, Felicia.
Thanks for sharing the feedback K
U missed the food court by Macys
I think the escalators there are slow on purpose. Lots of seniors. Many not wearing closed toe shoes.
Makes sense
I was at Rimowa in Fort Worth a few days ago, when I asked if this was a outlet store(jokingly) I didn’t get my usual dirty look lol, instead she kindly informed me that Rimowa doesn’t have any outlet stores
Yeah. Rimowa is never cheap 😀
The true sign of a successful mall is…basically NO vacancies! I don’t think I saw many plain wooden walls over where a retailer once was that are common even in more “successful”malls (there are currently five or six even at UTC, here….This place seems a lot like someone grafted 1990’s-era Horton Plaza with modern day Fashion Valley!)
Yes. A baby of Horton Plaza and Fashion Valley feels about right 😀
When I went on Oahu, I avoided the Waikiki area because of all the people. I only went for the May Day Lei Day Festival. I'll have to brave the people and maybe get a hotel there next time.

Hah. Rimowa is never cheap 😀
Make sure that you remember where you parked! You can spend hours looking for your rental car.
Great tip!
Haha, if you are really bad with direction, take a picture of your car and its surrounding after parking.😄
Any time that I have a rental, I will video the whole vehicle with a walk around the before l drive off, also the interior. I had returned a car and they said I damaged the side, so I show the video to them and they didn't said anything more. As for taking a picture of the surrounding, yes you can if there are numbers and letters. But if parked between or in middle of an area that you can't tell if you're between floors of a parking lot. (I had to take 3 pictures of a parking space and the elevator of the floor that I was on.) So we are so lucky now that we don't have to remember anything with the new phones that tell us where we were.
7:26 I don’t think you should imagine about that idea, despite being family-friendly.
Malls in the Continental U.S. is so dead comparing to this one! I love the international flair. The vibe is tropical and cool, much like Malaysia
I mean as a native Southern Californian, is a mall in the US that doesn't have a See's Candy?
15:12 he acknowledged the See's Candy Shop as he walked by it.
@@katerpillar5257 I was making the point in a humorous way that in fact it would seem out of place if a mall didn't have a See's Candy. And like him, I'm a born and raised Southern Californian and that whether it's in an airport or in this case a mall, we're used to seeing See's. I live ten minutes away from the L.A. factory/store and five minutes from one in a mall.
American mall are all the same, 90% of the stores you can find in other malls, only less than 10% probably local and unique.
All you can eat carbon dioxide downstairs 😊
