Autotune doesn't make someone able to sing. It literally just tightens your vocals towards the nearest note. You still have to sing near enough to the note otherwise it will sound off. Also, his vocal is very airy so he probably just EQ's the breathiness so thats why his vocal sounds much crisper on his videos
People just don't understand what's going on and end up saying that's heavily autotuned. Conor doesn't use autotune (however he might use it in a subtle amount to give a texture to his voice....but that's so subtle that it won't be noticable) .....he corrects his pitch manually (every singer does it)......it's not that he tunes his vocals too much, it's just the eq that sometimes make it more aggressive.

He needs to control his breathing better. He sounds too breathy during every live performance. He loses is breath too often and it sounds odd.
