Cork backing was a nice touch! I will be adding that to the ones I’m making.

I love getting a fresh approach. Changing from the bowl router bit (juice groove bit) to a Up Spiral bit to remove the excess in the center seems like a very good changeout. Also the stabilizing pieces secured with the blue tape to give the router base more foundation is a great workaround... Live and Learn :)

Absolutely and I’ll openly claim that I have no expertise and am always open to suggestions 😂 as you said, live and learn is the goal.

That really turned out very nice. Enjoyed this method of presentation of the project by you; not that there was anything wrong with your other videos.

Thanks! Didn’t take it that way at all either! I’m always experimenting with different styles so I appreciate the feedback!

Thanks for sharing this video. I actually just made two valet trays with three compartments each. They’re meant to be stacked and will have wooden hinges like on a fishing tackle box. I love the idea of the cork on the bottom and may borrow that from you. Why did you adhere the cork before finishing? Is it that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to glue it once finished?

I like that design idea! I may need to borrow that from you as well and you can use anything I share, I claim no ownership of these ideas as I have usually picked it up or some derivative version of it somewhere else.
And you’re right or at least that was my worry. Wood glue works by bonding to the wood grain so if I finish it or cover it, I had concerns it wouldn’t bond well. Now, it would always be possible to use another adhesive. There is a lot of self adhesive cork available on the market now.

Looks like the perfect Christmas gift! Are there plans/dimensions available? Thank you!

I couldn’t agree more! I didn’t throw plans together for this one but the dimensions are totally flexible depending on your needs and what you have available in the shop. If you don’t have something large enough, you can always laminate something together like a cutting board and the juice groove jig will keep the distance from the pocket to the edge consistent. If you’re interested, I can throw something together for you. Just shoot me an email 😊 should be in the about section of the channel page.

Did you make your branding iron or can you fill me in on where to get one made?

That’s a great question! There’s a guy on Etsy that makes them. It looks like he may be taking a break from making these but this is his page.
