So sad to hear this. I was planning to go this October. I liked the view and that it was closed to the sea; probably gonna changes my mind and just stay in the capital area
I hear you - I thought the same thing, especially with the Westin being known as a more upscale brand. Your idea to stay in the capital area is a better one - for sure! Not to mention that outside of the horrendous customer service and dirty pools/ maintenance issues covered in this video, the sea itself there comes with some dangers. There are multiple, publicly-reported incidents of jellyfish stings in the water, and serious stingray injuries causing guests severe bleeding. We knew about the jellyfish and stingray bit so we didn't enter the sea at all, but since you mentioned the sea - thought I'd share. This hotel was the worst part of our Panama experience - and we stayed in five hotels while living there for over a month.
You could have commented on the video without attacking the publisher. Not to mention that the gym lighting comment had everything to do with her feeling unsafe walking there alone as a woman, and nothing to do with entitlement.
LOL - when is your stay? Maybe things will have changed by then. Careful w how you make payments there ... the concept of "putting things on the tab" was not a thing and we got loudly chased out of multiple restaurants. I will also say, I just recently stayed at a Westin in Hawaii, and that was even worse! Not just in my impression, but in the impression of the hundreds of Westin staff that were on strike in front of the hotel while we stayed (striking against horrible working conditions). I am defs done w Westin.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I'm heading to Panama City in March 2025 and was going to stay at this resort, but not now. Can you recommend a Marriot hotel of four stars or above in Panama City that would be nice for a couple as I can book it on Marriot points? If not, I think I'll just pay for the Hotel Riu Plaza as their buffer breakfast looks amazing.
Thank you for your comment! I can definitely vouch for the Riu Plaza, as we lived there for a month - it was one of the five 5-star hotels we tried in Panama City. The other four were Westin (which you have just seen), Hilton (gimmicky and old), Bristol (poor customer service), and the Waldorf Astoria (best customer service EVER!). I don't think any of them are Marriott hotels thought. As for the Riu breakfast, I can vouch!! Most hotel breakfasts you get bored by day 3 or so, the Riu breakfast was the best/ one of the best of any hotel I've stayed at owing to the variety. After a month of eating there every morning, we never got bored. I actually occassionally crave it now that I'm pregnant lol ... I think bc it was quite authentic and with so much variety, and not trying the basic toast and jam we're used to in North America. Let me know what you end up choosing!

You sound extremely entitled… all the way down to the creepy lighting toward the gym.

@@pamelametani thank you so much for the detailed reply. I've gone with Riu Plaza, and your breakfast review sealed the deal. I cannot wait to try it!
Thanks for watching!
