I’ve had a Kobalt battery for almost 6 months that refused to charge. Light turned red on the charger and nothing. Today, another one wouldn’t do anything, no lights at all. Did your truck to both for about 15 seconds each battery and now they are both on the charger charging correctly! Thanks so much!
That's great news. You are welcome
It totally worked ! After 16 minutes, I stuck the bad battery on the charger and I now have one light and is charging. Thank you. $60 battery better work ! Lol..
Heck yeah, good job man.
I just did this too my "duff" 9amp milwaukee battery, using a 5amp one. A short piece of 2.5mm house ring main cable stripped each end, with red/black for positive and negative. This type of wire is very stiff so ideal for pushing into the terminals. I didn't bother with a fuse. Went for broke and after about 15 minutes the 9amp is now working fine, with 3 red lights on it. The 5amp had only 3 lights originally, but didn't get less than this. It works fine aswell. I will see if the 9amp will perform as normal, but I have bought a replacement anyway, as they always come in handy on site. If it is only a temporary fix, i will update this post soon. Stay safe people, electricity isn't something to play with, even if it's 'only' a battery.
Hey any updates on if this worked? I’m really curious about if it fixes them permanently
I use a Ridgid lithium battery to jumpstart my Milwaukee 18 volt.. worked perfect. Ridgid 18 volt lithium battery to a Milwaukee 18 volt battery .
Thank you so much
Cross Branding haha. Good job
@@chemicalspore thanks
I’m just going to say it.... FUCKING RIGHT!! That’s awesome man!! 🤜🤛
Those packs should have 5 18650’s at nominal voltage of 3.6 x 5 = 18v. 18650 batteries are charged up to 4.2V and down to between 2V and 3V depending on the cell's specification for cut-off voltage.
To be safe, never discharge lower than 3.0V (15v all together)
Unfortunately you’re gonna have to keep and monitor that battery above 15v because it’s dropping below the threshold. The charger won’t charge in that area for protection, no biggie, just gotta mark that battery with a pen so you know not to drain the piss out of it..
ya hurt my brain with this one. I think I understand it lol
Chemical Spore 🤣
The correct answer is 2.7 volts, that is where the protection circuit cut off voltage is set. Charging the pack at a higher voltage then that will not trip the protection circuit. 3 volts as you stated will keep the pack going, but lithium batteries can and should be charged after use, as they will charge fully regardless of their state of discharge.
Fred.
Sweet! Glad it worked! Those plastic ends on the test leads should twist and pull off btw. Might need a pair of pliers to get a grip on em
Imma try that. It's Walmart brand l
Worked for me! Awesome and easy. Thanks for the video!
You're welcome!
I truly hope this worked on a permanent basis vs a temporary bandage. Keep us posted, CS. Thanks and God bless!😁👍
I jumped my Milwaukee 1 month ago I use it everyday and work perfect
This is only a temporary fix, most likely you have 1 or 2 cells developing dendrites which are small short circuits in the cell itself, if you keep all the batteries that are going bad you can generally save some good cells until you have enough to fix the best of the buggered up ones, unless of course they're still covered by warranty. I have been doing this for years and saved myself a lot of money.
M18 battery pack when fully charged will be 21 volts. Chances are that pack will go down again to 15 volts. This means that only four cells are good. 4 volts nominal voltage each.
One cell is going bad sooner or later.
The cells in that pack are rated @ 3.6 volts that is why they are labeled 18volts. They will charge to 4.2volts each, so the pack will be 21volts fully charged.
Yeah its all a crap shoot
Well done! That intro was shocking though.
I thought i would try an enlightened intro
I just bought a M18 fluid pump and it's a high drain tool. I have several batteries but 1 older battery would not charge after I used it on my pump. I checked voltage with my meter (13.2vdc). The M18 charger must be a smart charger and not try to charge a battery below a certain voltage. I will try your jump start trick. I tried using 2 8D batteries in my generator but must push a lot of amps because it smoked my negative wire within 5 seconds! lol
holy crap, what kind of wire? lol
@@chemicalspore It was 12 awg
My Original battery set up that came in a kit was doing the exact same thing upon opening on first use and through out a few times of me replacing it upon the charger I realized that it would do that when both batteries were on the mount at the same time when I would remove one it would stop and the other would charge and Visa versa for the opposite side
Those chargers cant handle two batteries at once.
@@chemicalspore Exactly
Hello mr
Can I do it without a fuse?
has the battery been working normal or do you have to keep jumping it?
It crapped out after 1 use
thanks for the update!
Nice fix
Thank you
Hi
Iv tried it for a couple of batteries brands and still don't get charged...what do you think can be the problem
The cells within the batteries could quite possibly be dead or a connection could have a short, there many possibilities that batteries in general would stop working. Age could also be a factor.
Is it possible to Jump Start it with connecting it to the charger directly instead of an other battery? positive to positive charger, negative to negative charger. Will it work or danger of Shock?
Connecting it to the charger directly would be the same as plugging it in to the charger. I wouldn't recommend
That's weird. It should charge at 15v. I drained my m18 cp1.5 down to 10v with car charger and my Milwaukee charger did it just fine
In your video about the ticking sound your engine was making back in 2016 it could be your lifters
I rebuilt the whole top end. LS7 lifters, chromolly pushrods, dual beehive valve springs, new bigger and ported and milled heads, trunion rocker bearings, bigger cam shaft, long tube headers, cat delete, echaust cut out.............. yada
does anyone know what the other slots on the battery are for, since positive and negative are marked as the outer ones?
Some higher-end batteries have internal intelligence for charge control and status monitoring, in which case the third pin is for communications. That third contact is connected to an internal thermistor, enabling the charger to measure the battery temperature. In mobile phones, some Li+ battery packs have 3 terminals.
I did this with an M18. It worked for a while but then reverted to the same problem.
yeah, i got a few uses and then it was toast
the points are covers they should pull off
Hey I’ll bring my porter cable battery’s by see if you can do that to them
Hell yeah
Good job buddy. I will keep this in my pocket
It can save you money
I have same multi and made same mistake. Tips slide off for longer prongs lol
Yeah I found that out later. Not bad for a walmart brand though
@@chemicalspore I’ve had mine for 2 years and just changed the batteries out 2 days ago. I think it can be simplified cause I only use 3 functions on it but it did good. Ordering a smart one this week. I use it daily so I need a good one
I barely know anything about electrical, I know this device is great at checking car battery voltage.
I wonder if it will sustain
We will find out
@Berzerker God "DED"
whats the name of the type of wire i should do this with?
18 or 16 gauge wire shall do the trick
VERY cool
Gonna share this vid in our fb group. Maybe get you a few more subs
That would be awesome
I try its to series car battery for 1 minutes. And its work. Continues to charging port after.
Thats dope.
didn't work for me. the dead new battery just got really hot and also got the jump cables hot and started to burn the wire coating.
how long did you leave it
It doesnt work for me
Might it be because i used thicker cable? like a thick one instead of multiple copper wires
The battery just also might be completely toast. It works only up to a certain point which sucks
tried it don't work
the battery was probably toast
I did try this it worked great for 2 jump starts, and the 3rd time I tried to jump start it soldered the opening
how did the third time go????
Dude. Pull the sleeves off of your meter probes.
Yes
What on earth was that intro?
Was it bad
@@chemicalspore it was random lol
