as a developer I am only hoping that minimal will admit they need help with sw and opensource the phone... I am sure that the community can help them, i would for sure
Thanks for the initial feedback on this phone. The number bug with the keyboard is pretty disappointing. I wish they kept the full number row on the keyboard like in the original renders.
That is the reason I wait for more reviews and the bugs to be ironed out before I take the plunge on these first batch releases. Though I understand there is a cost saving by pledging early to these campaigns. I'd rather spend more money later as my time and loss of functionality outweighs the additional cost of the device. Thanks for bringing this to our attention, it is much appreciated. Kudos from NYC.🗽
Appreciate the reviews. I've been wanting a phone exactly like this for ages. Following to see if you get it working with Google Fi. Frankly I don't know if there's enough market for these devices to work out, but I hope there's enough demand that they can support, fix, and improve with updates.
There is, it's called light phone and it sucks. If they could iron out the problems, the minimal phone is the best option in the mindful usage category.
I am surpised it has the bad full screen flashing when it does a refresh/clear. Other eink devices can clear without a full flash. Must be the panel thats OED and not a eink branded panel
I am actually surprised that there´s an actual phone. Hopefully spftware will be improved and honestly i am just disappointed with the design. I prefered the initial idea.
Thanks for showing what it looks like in dark mode. I was having trouble getting that question answered, ie whether the Minimal Phone supports that. IMO dark bezel eink devices just look excellent in dark mode, I don’t mind having to refresh them more frequently. Looks like you have the front light turned on here. Is there a way to turn that off or is it just on all the time?
Thanks for being a beta tester! I wanted to buy the white version. But the CEO never went deep into the physical keyboard and thats key!!! Can you scroll with it or delete words?? Short cuts?? The pkb is the USP of this device, yet they don't make a deep dive about this! I skip and wait for a swecond gen with color and better PAssport-like keybaord with its fonts (!!!)! The fonts of this device are cheap and gruesome. Compare the fonts of passport or any Balckberry!
My favourite part is when you searched reddit for the alt key number issue like theres enough people to own it at this point 😂 Jokes aside ! Thanks for your opinion about it !
@@nickk6372 I had to do the search, I assumed I would not be one of the first people receiving the phone. It was crazy finding out nobody had posted anything yet
@@ChrisHuffstutter I think it's because they never got the phone certified with FCC. It doesn't work on AT&T or Verizon either (it won't even connect to the network)
This phone is overpriced junk... Why the hell would I spend that much on it?? You could get a blackberry which is much better and way less expensive.... This is just hipster bait 😂😂
@abandonedchannel0002 cool but e-ink is the cheapest screen ever created and the phone has no capabilities or anything it's just way over priced... Thanks for doing an early review! One of the first phones out of the gate

Man, getting rid of the number row was such a terrible idea on this.
@@lw3483 agreed! Even if there was an onscreen row of numbers I would be happy
What happens if you long press the keys ?

A remarkable-esque phone is what people should be making

Long press the key to get numbers!
I was wondering the same . Can anyone confirm what happens when you ling press ?

Good review. Can you make it more?
Thanks for the review. I like the dark mode better even if it’s ghosting. This happens on all eink devices.
@@LauraMalvoyante it's why I had it set up b/c I like it better too! However the battery performance with it on also is much worse.

Likely that dev features haven't been altered yet. 😂

what is the standby time of 4G if not doing much? (I need a long standby phone as SSH terminal device) thxxxx
What happens if you press the "SYM" next to the right side Shift key? Not sure the ALT key is supposed to be the top value of the key bud..
Def is the alt key for top value of key, a week and half in and the keyboard has sorted itself out. the shift key has to be held to do capitols.
The dev on stream said that dark mode has some issues so you probably shouldn't be using it yet
There’s a symbol button on the right side at the bottom. Using the alt key is incorrect, not a big
The symbol key has no function currently
I was interested in this, but there doesn't appear to be a case for it, no E-SIM, no clarification if the front light uses PWM...
There is case for it. When i ordered it there was an option to buy a case
@ Thanks! Though the company emailed me and told me it wouldn’t be available till March. And it wasn’t an option for me at checkout.
does the shift key not operate the numbers?
The alt key does, but the key glitches had it all messed up. I posted a new video of how it is after a week and a half, better but still buggy
Seems like minimal phones are just trying to be regular phones but they're crappy versions
Exactly that
I do like the layout with the wide screen and keyboard
@@bucket7548 yes that I like as it's very blackberry and I miss those phones
