It needs and deserves some sort of 2022 resurgence and it’s criminal that they didn’t do a music video to this cause back then music videos were huge and if this was selected as one of there tracks rather than sea of sorrow or something it would’ve been a commercial hit classic song for sure
i miss my mother a lot. She threw me out as my girl cheated on me and i couldnt bare it and started drinking alcohol. She couldnt bear watching and ive been on my own eversince. 1:58 That moment always put a smile on my face, you can see the joy and happines on that guy. I would be in the same state watching prime Alice in fuckin chains.
Jerry Cantrell is a fuckin genius, he really absolutely crushed it writing most of this album. Put you down/sunshine/we die young/sea of sorrow/bleed the freak/I know something bout you, all Jerry songs. One of the greatest songwriters ever and Layne’s singing on the album and at this time live was just fuckin incredible.
I was about 10 when this show happened. Older kids talking about going to these shows and what the Seattle scene was like (l lived in the middle of the state). Can't imagine what it was like for those regular club-goers when grunge blasted off. To have seen these guys then - unreal.
André Ribeiro You, glad you agree. My favourite band ever is Alice in Chains and I think he ruled, but he is not the best ever. Just go on google and if you have any sort of brain you'll realise.
Oh sorry somehow I was hoping you'd have a name, so I didn't even bothered googling, I guess people who are not stupid don't retain information like their favorite singers in their heads anymore. Can't you come up with anyone sir? Here I'll help you: Freddie... Michael... Pavarotti? I did the homework and google came up with stuff like Axl Rose(tho I agree with Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, but they're females...), so that puts me into a position where I won't follow any more of your advice. Cause you suck at advising.
Dave yes he is one of the best any contemporary voice teacher are surprised by the tonal quality and range of Layne Staley, it's a true range he can hit any of those notes and it will sound good. His a dramatic tenor dude... He is sounding like a baritone and singing tenor ranges.... Most of dramatic tenor don't sound that good Only exception is DIO fucking God But after him Layne Staley is probably one of the most amazing singers in the history of rock... His distortion is unbelievable and for me and many others amazing singers today he is s true inspiration on how to sing heavy and truly, without messing up like most of the metal singers do.
Whoever said this audience is the worst? LOL We just didnt have cellphones back there son, we absorbed the music, felt and enjoyed the feeling of just being there. We didnt go to record and take selfies. Layne, such feeling he gave when he sang, lucky to at least seen the live once.
Girls got squshed, kicked, knocked down ..landed on...lol. One thing..if you were small like I was MOST of the times They let me squeeze to the front or side up close..only 5 ft and barely 100 lbs. So I lucked up, sometimes getting seperated from friends, had to watch out for pervs! Lol,
I'm here watching again in August 2024. Who's with me? This stuff never gets old. It's always relevant and fresh. This shit is Timeless. We need some people in the comments.
I'm with you. I feel like I was listening to him yesterday, today, like he's present. How do we cope with knowing he just wasted into oblivion, everyone heard, knew, saw, and no one lifted a finger. Check out what impact his father had on him after an abandonment then re- entering, inserting his life into Layne's when he smelled fame, money, and a free heroin ride to hell for his son. Layne is a child of the universe. Desiderata. Feels like he's alive, but he's created a crator of emptiness. My heart aches for everything that surounded him. Why for such a soul? What he says and how he does it just feels too perfect.. like it's too good to be true, but it was, then, poof, he's gone. He said goodbye, and we didn't believe he'd never come back
My two favorite parts of this entire show was Tripping Balls Guy at 1:57. I've had his part on loop for a good 20 minutes now, and later (in the full show) when Layne checks a guy who is too rowdy and says, "If you don't fucking mellow out, I'm gonna kick you in the head." Love Layne, love early AIC...1989-1991 were the days. That voice...that fucking voice...
Who decided I couldn't be born when people listened to amazing music like this? Excuse me- when people BOUGHT music like this, or at all. Standards have sunken to the center of the earth.
I'd literally give my right arm today to go back in time and see this show. Those drunk idiots in front had no idea the epicness being spewed on them that night.
This is by far my favorite Alice In Chains song I used to listen over and over. This recording is not great, but you can still tell how amazing they are. They work as a band. poor Mike Starr, Poor Layne. I was so sad when I heard he died. I felt for him every time I listened to his lyrics.
Hahahaahaa, I didn't notice that one!! There are so many small things happening in this 5 minutes, you just start to see more and more of those as much as you watch it :D
1:57 That guy is me stoned listening to this when I’m home😂. I love how he thought he was going to slowly course through the crowd surf but hit the floor FAST lol. But he recovered and had a nice wave
+TheGrunger32 Sorry that was me on my mom's account, but no that man looked like my dad, my dad's name is Craig Walton and we lived in Seattle and he was a huge fan of alice in chains in the 90's that's why I was suspicious hahah
Which PJ live video? Yeah, Larry Steiner was a staple at a lot of shows in those days. Wait, do you mean the Drop in the Park videos? Yes, you do see Larry dancing behind the drum set during that free concert in Seattle. That was a great show. I met Eddie backstage after the show.
TheGrunger32 Yes! Exactly that show. I've heard Eddie is a very nice guy. That's great you got to meet and chat with him. I'd like to pick Stone's brain. Always loved Stone since Green River. I'm more familiar with MLB. So how is Larry? Hope he's still with us. Nice chatting with you..
Anybody else realize how this concert was on the day that Facelift was released? Record release concert I guess. The dude at 1:59 must have had a bootleg copy since he seems to have the lyrics down already haha.
I really appreciate everything about this song, i understand Jerry's pain about losing his mom , my grandparents were like my parents and it hurt me so hard when they both died.
Im not from the US,Im from Peru but I followed AIC since always Layne came to my DREAM AND told me You are the best Fan AND HE knows.Yeah ,WHAT A DREAM one of a kind,..ALICE IN CHAINS FOREVER LIKE NEVER BEFORE LAYNE YOU AND RAY GILLEN THE BEST SINGERS ALONG WITH GLENN HUGHES.THANKS YOU ALL.I LOVE THE EIGHTEES AND THE NINETEES
'Facelift' is lowkey one of the greatest Rock albums of all time. The pacing of 'We Die Young,' into 'Man In The Box,' into 'Sea of Sorrow,' then back to the same tempo (kinda) as 'We Die Young' with 'Bleed the Freak,' etc. The way 'Sunshine' picks the record back up from the descent into 'I Can't Remember,' 'Love, Hate, Love,' + 'Ain't Like That,' with these sick Sabbathy, Motley Crue kind of Metal riffs + the way Layne + Jerry harmonize on the chorus just immediately obliterates poseurs. One of my favorite records from front-to-back ever, forever.
RIP Layne Staley! You are forever the humblest Homeslice of chains! Blessed be! I love you Buddy guy! Not to mention Mike Starr, Much love to you too, bro, RIP.. AIC forever
i wish i was part of that when it happened, the whole seattle movement of music of the late 80's and 90's. i'm nostalgic but at least we have the videos.... :'(

This song is devastatingly underrated
It's sooooo good.
It needs and deserves some sort of 2022 resurgence and it’s criminal that they didn’t do a music video to this cause back then music videos were huge and if this was selected as one of there tracks rather than sea of sorrow or something it would’ve been a commercial hit classic song for sure
Agreed!!!
I am not sure what you mean
I was typing out a heartfelt reason why this song resonates with me and has history. Then I realized that I don’t know you. Truth.
1:58 Jesus appears suddenly, even he loves Alice in Chains ;)
Dude that's amazing, thank you for pointing that out
Jack Miller or Russell Brand?
bit late but your comment was gold..... was reading and that dude popped up and i lost it

I laughed my ass off at this
Favorite song off facelift honestly
tough to argue. it ain't like that always been one of my favs too
🖤😈🎶
Great under appreciated song , you can really hear their influences
This and love hate love for me
Something about that chorus is just magical
2:47 "Memory, set me free. Mother, please, come for me.". That hit me hard, the vocals and the message.
When he hits that "come for me" it's an ear orgasm

Yes It was. College days in Washington State for me. What a time! So many epic bands and albums from one area...
If this song isn't on your top 10 Alice list, you don't know Alice.
greatest singer ever.
He was amazing but don't be stupid.

Layne Staley cannot be compared to anybody.

I've always loved this one. Nice bluesy rock feel to it.
Easily AIC’s most underrated song
goosebumps start to finish. that tempo drop in the chorus puts this song on another level
AIC forever♡
Layne's presence brings peace even though he sings about the worst stuff people go through, what a guy

I'm comparing Layne to Layne - lol
What a set of lungs! Great performance! This how I try to remember Mike and Lanye. They were having a good time! Glad that back. I missed them
I wish great bands like this would realize that they should always professionally film and record every single live show for historic awesomeness!
I’m glad this video exists. One of those goosebumps on the arm songs.
