Just a quick question. Do you train the dogs in a rabbit pen? If not can you give any advice on how you go about stopping them from running in if you don't have access to one. Thanks
My steadiness training starts like everybody else’s really to a thrown dummy, then tennis balls rolled in front of the dog whilst it’s hunting and maybe a artificial bolting rabbit. Once that has been installed in the dog I move into the rabbit pen for the next level hoping that my initial training stand me well when the first flush comes….sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn’t. The pen is a terrific training aid for a young dog being steadied to flush, I’m lucky to have a pen, if I didn’t I’d find one and hire some time in it.
@@TufftykeGundogs Thank you for the advice. I've a pup coming in 2 weeks. It's a problem I see all the time, they seem to be able to stop them on dummies birds but the rabbits are too tempting lol. I will definitely look into finding a pen and hopefully I can have that behaviour put out of her before it becomes a problem. Thanks again, and I really enjoy the clips. Keep them coming 👍
