I’m unclear why you say the first recipe is the “classic.” The classic mai tai definitely doesn’t have orange juice. The one you present is good but it’s not classic or original
I got hooked on Mai Tai's on my cruise I just went on and was looking for a recipe for the island version and I'm definitely tryin it for my Christmas drink.
drax14QC no place for orange juice in the real mai tai ;) also... She used a terrible orgeat... if you want to see real mai tai video, maybe check Distinguished spirits chanel
@@DrIstoris Yeah can't argue he has a great channel! I've seen his Mai Tai video. And you were right yes I hadn't noticed she used orange juice and yeah maybe not the best orgeat, many people say homemade is the best
I would use pinnapple juice, Mai tai mix, ice ,grenadein , cherry juice, Puerto Rican rum or 151. Then shake it serve it with a pinnapple ring and a couple of cherries as a garnish. With a straw or two and a mini umbrella.
You can talk about great home made ingredients, top shelf booze and getting the ratios perfectly balanced, but the thing everybody overlooks and what truly makes a Mai Tai an adult happy meal is the salad up top. In the 90's the Royal Hawaiian hotel still had marble bathrooms with bathroom attendants. They're all gone now, replaced with cheap Formica and no guy in an old suit basking in farts and dollar sprays of cologne. What's gone too is the exceptional garnishes they'd put on Mai Tai's. Each one, no matter how many Mai Tais deep you were, were presented with no less than a cherry and pineapple wedge skewered on a paper umbrella along with a mint sprig and the most beautiful orchid blossom ever. How I miss those days, picking people up at the airport, bringing them for a first pacific ocean experience with sandy feet and a perfect Mai Tai in hand trying to keep the new arrival awake until 10 pm so the jet lag wouldn't suck so much. Shout out to bathroom attendants everywhere if you still exist. You may bask in more farts than a returning flight from Cabo, but I miss you. The next Mai Tai's on me. Full salad.
@@Homemadefoodjunkie No problem! The Amaretto increases the almond taste which I love about the Mai Tai, and the vanilla syrup is my own little twist on it

Don’t wanna burst your bubble but the “Tiki” can not be called a “Mai Tai” at all. You just made a basic seaside rum cocktail that can be found in basically any seaside bar.... not a mai tai
Thank you for your comment! Yes for sure adjust the grenadine if you don't like too much sweetness! The color will still be great with a little less grenadine. Cheers!
tl;dr: If you order a Mai Tai and are offered either of these, you've been ripped off! Neither is a Mai Tai, classic or otherwise. There is no orange juice in the classic Mai Tai, and a black run like Meyers's is not appropriate. The best rum for a classic Mai Tai is, without a doubt, Denizen's Merchant Reserve, particularly as Martinique Rhum Grande Arome (a key part of the blend used in the Mai Tai after the entire supply of 17- and then 15-year J Wray and Nephew's Jamaica rum was exhausted) is difficult to source. A drink with pineapple and coconut in it is absolutely NOT a Mai Tai, so what is presented here as the "Tiki" version is totally bogus. The original, revised, and second revised formulas were, and, in the case of the last, is Tiki. A correct recipe is in Martin and Dr Rebecca Cate's _Smuggler's_Cove_. If you want a Mai Tai, you should check out this resource.

Why doesn't she use gloves, or tongs to pick up food? ( ice, meats, fruits etc) or let us see she's washed her hands before doing any rolling or touching everything?

The island version is my favorite 🙌😍
Just Kayti I love how pretty it is💖
Thanks for making and sharing this wonderful recipe

bruh
My mission in life is to show my friends and acquaintances the Way of Rum that lies beyond the horrors of the standard store selection.
@@michaelwardle7633 yeah idk why with rum people will settle for the absolute worst stuff
She also put orange juice in a maitai, this is heresy
That island version sounds amazing! 😍 but both would perfect poolside 🍹
Amanda Sandefur you need to really love rum if you go for the classic. The island version is much more a fruity drink. Yummers!
*would be
I can’t wait to try this. Looks delicious!
Very good!!! Thank you!!
Thanks for the feed back. We are happy you enjoyed it. Happy weekend!
You rock! Our guest loves Mai Tais
Let’s just say I was told it was the best they had. Thank you
Oh I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you for taking the time to come back and let us know!
The first is a take on the Mai Tai, the drink invented by Trader Vic. The second is something wholly and completely different. A juice bomb for sure.
Mai tais! "Mai" favorite!!
🤩
Love this video! Great job, so I subscribed! Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much!
What in tarnation was that second concoction? DIsgusting!
The classic version is trader vic's and this is not the trader vic's version.

You will be hard pressed to make an original since the rums they used don't exist anymore. STILL, this is a butching of the titled intent even.
@@stevemccord7118 you can use different rums to imitate Wray and nephew 17 years old rum which was the original rum that was used.

In Hawaii they don’t use a cocktail shaker , well not in the tiki bars .
Yep, there is no reason to use a shaker. Just pour into the glass and give it a little stir.

I make the regular one without orange juice but add Amaretto and I use vanilla syrup instead of simple syrup.

You didn’t measure the lime juice? Every lime yields a different amount

Neither one is the original Tiki version. The first one is actually closer if you omit the orange juice.
That's with Vitamin C which makes it more healthier than any other cocktails.

Great recipe but I'd definitely add less grenadine, seems too sweet for my personal preference. Thank you for the lesson

Classic?!? No... just no. No orange. Captain Morgan?!? Oooph. Classic: Jamaican & Martinique rum; Lime juice; Orgeat; Orange curacao; Rock candy syrup. Ice. Shake. Pour. Garnish with lime/mint. Serve.

The 8 and 12 yr Appletons work well too. I prefers those over Denizen's in my Mai Tais. To me they're smoother.
The Tiki version is basically a simplified Bahama Mama
Where is the dark meyers float
Koloa dark rum is the correct floater.
Tiki of course looks better

Because I'm in my own kitchen making these cocktails for myself :)

Bartenders don't wear gloves.
Most cooks in a restaurant don't wear gloves.
Neither one of those where a Mai Tai
