Having previously lived in Iroquois Co for 60 yrs, I am very fascinated with the story of Gurdon Hubbard and Watseka, aka Watch-ee-kee. I think this would make an interesting documentary for someone to produce. I was amazed that when i visited Mackinac Island in the 80's, the window in the little church down from the Grand Hotel, was dedicated to Hubbard. The man had a tremendous impact on the Midwest!
My great Aunt Cora and Uncle Orth , Prather, lived and farmed west of Rossville. My great grandparents, Johnsons, lived in Rossville. My mother fondly told stories about visits with great grandma Caroline. Her daughters were Cora, Puss, and Edith Forshier, my grandmother. My father, Joe Tighe, was a cousin to Gene Hackman. I have many relatives, Prathers and Forshiers, in the area and fond memories of visiting both Rossville and Hoopeston.
Our home (Gene and Celia Young) was at 312 Benton. It was in O.G. Crane’s first addition to Rossville. Our Deed and abstract was not specific on the year it was built. It stated late 1800’s; possibly early 1900. We lived there from 1970-2015.
Grew up on a farm just outside Rossville, moving for college when I was 20. It’s hard seeing so many historical buildings no longer standing, just empty lots. My grandparents told me all kinds of stories & history of the places. I always bombarded my great-grandmother, Gladys Turner with questions about how Rossville was over the years. I’d love to do my own video project on it some day. -Austin Nunn
It is great hearing the history of towns, really cool to hear how a place is settled in for whatever reason and then grows and becomes a town or city. I heard the Mayor mention Paris Illinois, I once dated a girl from there when I lived at the beach in the Florida panhandle. Very informative video. Susie is such a pretty lady and she does a great job!!!

Hopefully the county spends some of that casino money on something besides extra police coverage. There are people who need help also.
