This story was written and drawn by the one punch man author, which is why the style and storytelling seems similar at first glance but they are very different stories. OPM is about a man who has reached his goal of becoming the strongest but realizes he doesn't find fulfillment in that. Mob Psycho is about a kid who is born with great powers but tries to find his purpose and fulfillment in things that his powers can't give him.
In a way OPM is showing a problem in our society and Mob Psycho is suggesting to us the solution.
This comment is underrated. So concise and 100% true.
As for the main character, his whole shtick is that he's a kid who struggles to express himself. On the surface it seems he's bored like Saitama, but you get to see how sensitive and caring he is pretty fast. He just bottles up his emotions until they completely overwhelm him, which is probably why the OPs visuals are so overwhelming.

just wanted to say one of the battle themes in this show has a fucking kazoo in it and it absolutely bangs. I have no idea how they made a kazoo sound so intense and otherworldly

It's not a kazoo, actually. It's something called a "seamoons". I think it should come up when you search 'seamoons instrument'.
It's described as a "singing robot".
I started this show last summer and I have to say that it is in my top 3. I honestly recommend it and if you love OPM then you’ll most likely love this show as well
-Mob choir (the band that made the openings) made all 3 openings and were formed specifically for this anime. They're animators and people working on it. You can tell how much passion went into it.
-while the openings may seem out there all of them contain hints and spoilers that you wouldn't get until you watched the show which is the best type of anime opening. Spoiling people without them noticing so that they would still be entertained.
-all the openings are titled with numbers.
99, 99.9 and 1.
-all the openings are 1:40 long which is a 100 seconds long.
-all the openings are connected somehow and the first 2 openings end where they start while the last one is there to finalize the show so it ended on a different note.
What I loved the most about the 3rd opening is that it felt like the ideal last opening to give an action anime. It almost felt like a very hype countdown to the final episode. To me, it screams "IT'S GOING DOWN" in song form and in visuals. I also love that despite being so chaotic, the visuals still stick and sync to the music for most of the opening, making it feel that much more well-directed. I've seen some openings before that have banger songs and great visuals but absolutely abysmal directing that wastes both of them.
Manga readers say that the last opening is in tone with where the story heads, and I can't wait to know more about it!
The main character's nickname is mob, which is Japanese slang for an average looking person who blends into a crowd. So his simple appearance is meant to be a practical joke in a couple ways
I also read that his name (Shigeo) can be read like mob as well, that's why Reigen calls him this way.
Not just a practical joke. It's integral to the story and his character.

The 3d part in the 2nd intro was supposed to be a spinning model that gives the illusion of movement. Usually viewed through a small hole in real life.
Man, you def need to watch this show with your girlfriend. Really recommend! As soon as she get used to this vibe I think she would like it so much.

@@hetianinyastg5262 it's just a really good show, it has everything you could want, action, comedy, sadness, the animation is chaotic and beautiful, the characters are the strongest point of the show and you really feel for them and love to see their development, my favorite show by far

Calling One Punch Man a classic is a bit... weird, it's not that old haha.
I love both shows, but Mob Psycho 100 is a lot better. Second best anime ever. Love all three intros.
For me it's 1. second, 2. third, 3. first.
A classic doesn't just mean that it's old. It means that its quality can stand the test of time and cross different demographics. Although a classic can be better identified with time if people still talk about it for that long, a work can also be called a classic because people feel that it will stand the test of time and there's just a particular feel to quality of the work that makes us feel like the show will be watched or rewatched for generations to come. I get that vibe from ONE's work with the universality of his themes and the innovative way he writes protagonists.

@@Nekotaku_TV "Your Name" is considered a modern classic by most anime critics so we can safely say that it doesn't have to prove itself and we can feel that movie crossing mileue, linguistic, and cultural boundaries. "The Godfather" was called a classic when it was first put into cinema too, so was the marketing for Ghibli films when they were put into theatres. We can safely say that people can "feel" something standing the test of time even before it has proven itself. That's because you can feel youraelf rewatching this with your grand children and them enjoying it even in their time. Or you just know you can show this to a person who doesn't share your same culture and they would love it equally. Being a classic comes from its feeling of universality and timelessness, rather than a statistical graph of yearly success.

One Punch Man was the first anime I ever watched, but I wrote Mob Psycho off after seeing some clips of the art style. This was a mistake, as Mob Psycho instantly became my favorite show. I currently have it on 3rd place behind One Piece and Attack on Titan.
If you can appreciate the weird art style, you will like it more than One Punch Man.
