I went to school with a guy who's little brother was in 8th grade and quite a bit more muscular... Kid was fucking jacked and fast as hell.
By Mario saying that he was the only one who was cool with Dustin suggests that the others were either horrible to him or left him out and ignored him. Poor Dustin. Mario seems like a lovely guy. Especially if he was the only one who was nice to Dustin. It's easy to give into peer pressure by ignoring someone and not befriending them because their unpopular. Good for Mario!

Where was this attitude when Mario interviewed Dustin though? Cause he totally acted like he didn’t know him but when he interviewed Mark-Paul he was acting as if no time had passed at all & they were best buds.
It was No secret he had hung out with Mark many times even as recent as his interview with him.
With Dustin I think Mario forgave him for the book he wrote but they weren’t really best beds outside of the show.

He takes care of himself, that's obvious (exercises, eats right, takes good care of his teeth, good hairstyle, good clothes, etc.). A lot of people around his age could look better than they do if they would put in the effort as well.
@PerrySport You know, it's possible guys can go through a relative period of stasis, where, if you take care of yourself, things don't really change much over a few decades, at least on the surface. However, once he hits his 50's or 60's, things may begin to fall apart rather fast.
Facelift. Google images and you will see the scars behind his ears, unless he got them removed. There was a photoshoot he did with the daily mail a few years ago at Xmas where you could see them really clearly.

Mario always seems to be such a Class Act. It doesn't surprise me that he would be the one to befriend Dustin while the others didn't. One thing that every actor on Saved by the Bell should realize. Without Dustin, the show would have been canceled in a year. We all love Screech! And Jimmy Fallon, love you. But there's no way Dustin Diamond shouldn't have been in that Saved by the Bell skit. D Hammes Mario Lopez said as much sitting between Mark Paul Gosselaar and Elizabeth Berkley at a Fan Expo interview. Mark Paul admitted to treating Dustin like crap. Elizabeth tried to say she was also nice to Dustin and Mario wasn’t having it.
So apparently Dustin Diamond is on point about being treated like shit. He didn’t need to put it down on paper but I get where he’s coming from.

So sad to hear that Dustin Diamond was bullied some cast mates. Glad though to hear that Mario was a good guy to him though. Screech was the heart of the show because he made it halarious. I've heard that Mark Paul Gosseleur was for sure an ultimate jerk to Justin; Mark shoved him against the lockers and made fun of him and dissed him like Hell. I wonder how the the girls were to him which were Tiffany, Elizabeth, and Lark. I'm thinking probably not so nice too huh??!!!! Poor Dustin.

Exactly I think Dustin had issues with himself. He sign onto a character like screech and I honestly think he done a good job by it. However probably seeing other characters like zack and ac becoming heartthrobs made him jealous. I did not read his book but from interviews and the movie it's obvious screech did not see himself as a talented actor but actually as the character which was a geek. So I think it's a lesson for producers and creators of TV shows to make sure their actors know how to turn the character off once done filming so it won't become an issue in their normal life.

But as Lark Voorhees was going through her mental changes Dustin Diamond was the only one out of the cast who kept in touch and remained a true friend to Lark and often spoke up on her behalf so that should tell you something.

Mario's situation reminds me of some of my friends from the past that took a wrong turn in life So you start to put some distance between yourselves. You remember the person they were before they took a wrong turn and you just want your old friend back.

Real Talk I agree mark Paul didn't say anything negative bout Dustin the other guy was the one dissing him I seen an interview with Dennis Haskins and he said that all the other kids were nice to Dustin it's just he was younger so he wasn't hanging out with them a lot off set till he was older and mark Paul even said in a interview that Dustin looked up to him and how he felt for him with the troubles he has been having so it's obvious that mark Paul even though he hasn't talked to him since the wedding movie still cares bout him and lark vorhies and Dennis Haskins has said they keep in contact with Dustin since the book came out so Dennis lark and Mario say they are in contact with him and mark Paul said he feels for him the only ones not to say anything bout him is Elizabeth Berkeley and Tiffany amber thiessn and u can also see that they all got along with Dustin with behind the scenes pictures there is one I found of mark Paul and Dustin in a scene and mark is obviously laughing at something Dustin did or said and the college years bloopers u can tell too Dustin got along with the cast Mark Paul has said in interview too they were like a family and Dustin has said too they all got along and were friends and that he loved them then and loves them now and the reunion wasn't he wasn't invited just busy like lark the media just loves to make drama

My buddies gf saw him in Vegas by the pool just relaxing, and she approached him and asked for a photo. She said you could tell he was little taken back that she ran up on him and in my opinion he had every right to be, but he was still very kind to her and gave her the picture.

I think Diamond feels resented that he didn't fit in........and his character was the black sheep of the cast....plus Engel thought Diamond was immature (Diamond was a few years younger than the rest of the cast).........and found out he lied about his age (before auditioning for Saved By the Bell Ms. Bliss) in 1987!!!

I remember sometime between the "New Class" and the final cast, I watched Dustin Mature (in his character ) and then he went hyper - dork. As in overacting the awkward and needy part of his character.
I have a sneeking suspicion that the director or shows producers convinced him that was the way to be in the part.
I would have lost my shit too if that's the case. He'd been playing that character since the late 80s if I'm not mistaken. When it was Mark, Lark, Halley Mills and the other forgettable cast that didn't show up in the High school version of the show.

Everyone says Dustin Diamond is a douche which may or may not be true, the interviewer doesnt pick up on the fact around 0;49 where Mario says he was probably the only one that was "cool" with him. Hmmm! She should have asked whether that was because even back then he was a douche, or as Diamond suggests he was unfairly alienated from the other cast members.
I don't even know why people would even find it hard to believe that Mark-Paul Gosselaar or Tiffany Amber Thiessen were massive assholes full of their own popularity as teens. I fully believe that Dustin Diamond was alienated from the other cast members, was forced to do things on camera that he really didn't want to do, and the show embarrassed him overall. He might have grown up to be what we all consider a "douchebag", but I truly feel for the guy, I really believe he was a genuinely sweet kid and that show screwed up any chance he could have had at having an enjoyable life from that point on. I think the show crushed him.
The thing is, you look back at all the things that happened on Saved by the Bell.....pretty much all of the episodes should be embarrassing for all of the actors :P It was a bad show, but it sure was popular.

@gothatway09 That's doesn't really reflect on the 14 year old kid being "cool" but the 18-19 year old being left out from the "cool" group of their own age bracket. That's like being a starter on a freshman football team as a senior.

Dustin even admitted that the book was written by a ghost writer and it was fake. Secondly Mario was the only one that was actually nice to Dustin. He kept in touch with him and none of the others did. The tribute they did for him on the show was such bs! Sure Dustin had his issues and I’m sure they treated him like crap but it was no reason not to keep in touch. From what I hear Mark and the others except for Mario are jerks.

Apparently, Dustin Diamond didn't go to a doctor when he first had signs of cancer,
and by the time he did see a doctor, it was too late for treatment. It has occurred to me that maybe he
didn't get treatment *on purpose*. Diamond was tormented by a lot of things in his life(e.g. being typecast
as Screech), and maybe he saw this illness as a opportunity to end it all, and so he deliberately didn't
get treatment for his cancer. But this in only conjecture; I can't prove that this is what happened.

The total lack of self awareness is hilarious. They were the cool older kids. Of course they had a great time. It’s like a normal person’s high school experience versus the most popular kids in school. Of course the popular kids loved high school. The parties, the football games, the incredible prom - but not everyone had that experience. Not everyone was invited. And the fact that Mario called him “quirky” and said he was the only one who got along with him tells you all you need to know. They had their little clique and Dustin was not part of it.

sbtbfanatic come on man, don’t be mean. It’s sad how one guy gets ostracized and treated like dirt by other people. Something similar happened to me and ironically I’m the most adjusted and educated to come out of that experience, but I also had people in my corner . People underestimate how just being kind to someone who isn’t treated so well can do wonders for them.
It’s funny bc Breckin left out Lark so he doesn’t have the opinion of the entire cast to say “everyone”. People need to stop gaslighting other people’s experiences especially if they were there!
