BACKGROUND
Countdown is the channel’s longest running show and the first show ever broadcast on Channel 4 when it launched 40 years ago, in November 1982. The original version of Channel 4's Countdown is the French television programme « Des chiffres et des lettres » (literally "numbers and letters"), where the Numbers Round is referred to as « Le compte est bon » ("the total is right"). The show debuted in 1965 as « Le mot le plus long » using letters only, and reached its present format in 1972. This year marks the shows 51st anniversary.

SPIN-OFF
"8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" is hosted by Jimmy Carr, with Rachel Riley and Susie Dent assuming their Countdown roles. The formation of the crossover with "8 Out if 10 Cats" began as a series of specials, the first of which was broadcast on 2 January 2012, when Channel 4 orchestrated a special "mash-up night", merging two shows to form a special edition of the pair, as part of its 30th-anniversary celebrations eleven years ago.

546 on the first one, 456 on the 2nd, 226 on the 3rd, & 577 on the last.
23 x 10= 230 seemed obvious:
3 - (8/8) = 2
25 - 2 = 23
6 + 4 = 10 .... 23 x 10 = 230
The last one was so easy i'm surprised they missed it. I think they were trying to do something clever when really you could just
25+75=100 ×5=500
10+2=12
12×7=84
500+84=584 😊
230
25x8=200
(4+6)x3=30
200+30=230
My results:
Round 1: 547, right on!
Solution: (75+4)x7-5-(10-9)
Round 2: 489, struggled with this one
Solution: (3x100)+(25x9)-(6x6)
Round 3: 230, right on!
Solution: (25x8)+(4x8)-(6/3)
Round 4: 585, goddamn one away
Solution: (75x7)+(10+2)x5
1. LNAFP: 4x9x(5+10)+7=547
2. (100-6-9)x6-25=485
3. (25+3-8/8)x(4+6)=230 or (25+8)x6+4x8=230
4. Same as RR: (25-7-10)x(75-2)=584
230: 8÷8=1. 3-1=2. 25-2=23. 4+6=10. 23×10=230.
One way I got this
75+25=100
100x5 =500
10+2=12
12x7=84
500+84=584
I nearly drove myself mad trying to get to the 485 from the wrong direction. For some reason I thought 460 would be easier to get than 510. It's not - not with these numbers.
547
75*7 =525
10/5 = 2
9*2=18 +4=22
525+22=547
In the first numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution, and I also had this:
75 + 5 = 80
80 x 7 = 560
560 - 9 - 4 = 547
And this fancy solution:
75 x 9 = 675
675 x 4 = 2700
2700 / 5 = 540
540 + 7 = 540
As you might have guessed by the fact it reduces to 540, it's essentially the same thing Rachel did. I've just multiplied 4 / 5 by 75 to turn it into 60.
In the second numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution, but I also had the following one. I think these two may be it in terms of solutions:
25 + 6 = 31
31 x 6 = 186
186 + 9 = 195
195 x 3 = 585
585 - 100 = 485
They should have been able to get 1-away easily, though, with:
100 - 25 = 75
75 + 6 = 81
81 x 6 = 486
In the third numbers round, I saw both contestants' solutions, but I'm amazed neither of them saw this:
25 x 8 = 200
6 + 4 = 10
10 x 3 = 30
200 + 30 = 230
I thought that would be their solution and theirs would be my alternatives.
And I also had this for a less obvious solution:
25 - 8 = 17
6 x 3 = 18
18 - 4 = 14
17 x 14 = 238
238 - 8 = 230
In the final numbers round, I saw Rachel's solution and also had these couple of other ways of doing the same thing:
75 + 5 - 7 = 73
10 - 2 = 8
73 x 8 = 584
75 - 2 = 73
10 + 5 = 15
15 - 7 = 8
73 x 8 = 584
As well as having this solution:
75 + 5 + 2 = 82
82 x 7 = 574
574 + 10 = 584
584 = (25+75)x5 + (10+2)x7
547 = (75 + 4) x 7 - (10 - 9 + 5)
5:00 I had yet another way. (25x8)+(8x3)+6=230
6:45 (75x7)+(25x2)+10=585
Did the first numbers a different way.
75 + 5 = 80
80 x 7 = 560
560-9-4=547
75 * 4 = 300
300 / 5 = 60
60 * 9 = 540
540 + 7 = 547
.
Tinnitus
.
9 + 6 = 15
100 - 15 = 85
85 * 6 = 510
510 - 25 = 485
.
3 + 6 = 9
9 * 25 = 225
8 / 8 = 1
1 + 4 = 5
225 + 5 = 230
.
75 + 25 = 100
100 * 5 = 500
10 + 2 = 12
12 * 7 = 84
500 + 84 = 584
Just watched the one from the 23rd October then this one. Got both conundrums. Need to go lie down now.
547=(75+4)x7-(10+5-9)
230=25x8+(6x(8-3))
584=(75-2)x(25-10-7)
I wish she wouldn’t comment on peoples number choices regarding whether they’re taking a gamble or not.
Where can I watch the full episodes? Thanks

547=7×(75+4)-10-5+9

Imagine watching regular countdown on UA-cam 😅
9:03 - now Rachel looks 50
7:28 Aah, the 73 times tables, I really need to go back to my school teacher and say "Sir/Madam, why didn't you teach me the 73 times tables?".
You work backwards lol. The 73 isn’t what you look at, it’s the 8.
We want to know the factors of our target, 584 is even, so we go down to 2*292 , then again to 4*146, then again to 8*73.
73 is a known prime but we have 75 and 2 which makes that part easy. Then it’s a matter of making 8 out of 25, 7 , 10 and 5 which could be done with 10 -7 + 5.
aka the 7 times table and the 3 times table... 8 x 7 = 56 append a zero and add 8 x 3 = 24 on top of that... it's basic algebra, helps a lot with basic arithmetic... 73 x 8 = (70 + 3) x 8 = 560 + 24 = 584
As above with the prime factors but also I look for approximations. 75 x 8 is close to the target then I saw it is 2 x 8 different. I did (75 - (7 - 5)) x (10 - 2)
I'm sure they would've taught you the 8 times table - you just stopped too early!
