Yay! Fern Friday!! This is a beautiful fern that I've never come across or heard of. Thanks so much for sharing. School starts Monday, ugh, but I'll try to keep up with you.
Yay school! ... I'm a nerd, I loved school. Well, I loved college that is, as long the semesters weren't full of bs classes that had nothing to do with my major.
Suggestion: Jeff; in the Fall contact a tree trimming company & ask that they deliver/dump a (FREE) truck full of ground up trimmings & _spread it amongst your beds that need amending. By Spring your Ferns will Thrive in that compost.
Ive had Autumn ferns before for years in zone 7b. They can get quite large and have beautiful bright new fronds that emerge in spring and through summer.
You finally did a video on a plant I already have, and I nailed all the "do not"s! Planning to amend where mine are before fall still...cause yeah, planted lots of stuff in a "clay pot".
You captured its beautiful (as far as the painted fern look) towards the end of the video, just time and patience with your skills and yourself my friend. I think honestly it was beautiful from start to finish, but that’s just my humble opinion 🥰🥰🥰 Well done sir, and try to enjoy your weekend!!! Give all the fur and feathered babies some love 💕 ( Colby as well lol)
Hello! Nice to know there is another plant lover in St. Louis. Really enjoyed your video of Hillerman's Nursery, I lived in Washington and made the trek down Hwy. 100 many times, now I live in St. Lous too. I enjoy what you are doing. You kept talking about the weather and I thought, hmmmm, seems familiar, it seemed I had the same weather day as you, before I found out you live in St. Louis too..
So I've never seen one or heard of one before... I'm a fern killer anyways so I don't see myself picking one up anytime soon. But it's definitely one of the cooler looking forwards... As always great video!
Just murdered a maidenhair fern (as per usual) after moving in a new apartment here in NYC. Always like a good Fern Friday video - if I can't have them in-person, I'll take them on-screen!
I just got a godzilla giant painted fern today at my nursery. Tag says it could get 6 feet wide. I’ve never had a fern before...hopefully this works out for me.
Damn clay, we had the same soil in Ohio. Have you considered using your auger after you dig out the planting hole? You could break up much deeper and really work in some gypsum with minimal effort.
Spores from ferns will grow...best in terrarium set up...closed type with lid...need constant humid not soggy...bright not hot light...patience 6 to 10 month wait...you could sprinkle spores in an established terrarium and forget about them....
Wow this one is gorgeous, even the weirder one you have is pretty. Definitely interested in this one
They have lovely foliage!
I have burgundy lace, it comes up super late each year but has been reliable so far. We're zone 6 but a very different climate here in Massachusetts.
I bet it is beautiful!
Almost instantly subscribed. Your explanations are so clear and easy to focus on. And, entertaining!
This is one of our favorite ferns. Great video 👍

I generally just dump hummus and compost started before I mulch in the fall but that would be much easier!
@@TropicalPlantParty I had that done. Make sure you specify which varieties of tree you do not want. You don't want something allopathic in your beds.

Been trying to find some autumn ferns for next week but everyone is sold out! They are one of my favorite perennial ferns.
@@TropicalPlantParty Our lowes had them 2 weeks ago, but I haven't been back since. The nurseries I go to here don't have any I know.

Lol... been there! That's how we learn right?

🤣😂 small world! Favorite local nurseries? I'm always looking for new places to explore.
@@TropicalPlantParty Bowood Farms on Olive is a rather unique place to go.
Love them. Have 3 planted in a cluster in front of the house. They get a fair amount of sun, but do fine here in southern RI.
I bet they look beautiful too!
@@TropicalPlantParty Now that they've recovered from being squished when the new roof went on in June, they look great.
💚Happy Fern Friday!
Happy fern friday! ... belated. 🤣😂

Well you can sneeze too close to a maidenhair and kill it! 🤣😂 they are such divas!
Less water more light, trim off any dead fiddles. Hope it helps. Also mist once a week if possible?
you had me at "moist conditions", look no further
thank you! great information 👍🏽😉
Thank you!

You'll have to let me know how big it gets! I've been wondering and wanting to find out if they really will get that big.
found a little one growing under the edge of my porch? i weed eat that area often in the summer but my trimmers been broke. idk where it came from lol
Ooo I’m early for once! 😂
🤣😂

I generally just score the sides and bottom with a hard rake and till in the gypsum. A tiller or auger would definitely work better!

Sounds like a fun project! Thanks lorell!
