Dr Jaishankar is a diplomat I wholly admire. But, there's an irrationality to Western leaders that his team seems to not be cognisant or in full appreciation of. Some of India's interests (and sovereign decisions) impede Western interests... I sit in suspense wondering about the consequences/blowback for India will be in the long run. Think on Ukraine's demand for the sanctioning of India and China 🤔
Last time I checked when India was wealthy and prosperous it didn't cause trouble to anyone, instead it was invaded and plundered by the western world. It's not the west that needs to be worried of India, instead it's India that needs to be stronger to protect itself from the west.
That was before the age of exploration Indian empires didn't have navies The first navy was built by the maratha empire way later that too after the age of exploration if we would have had advanced naval technology like the Europeans we might have ventured further lands to colonise too

India is a relationship based society. They value family and friends over anything else. As well as education and hard work. It also has the largest youngest population in the world who are very nationalistic. They love their country. India is truly an unstoppable force, it will emerge as a real powerhouse in the up coming years.
As an Indian, I am also skeptical about relying on the USA because they were the ones who sent nukes to threaten us during the 1971 Indo-Pak war and now they are doing India this, and India that
They didn't just send it to threaten us they did actually send it to nuke us but Russia threatened them with their Nukes and WW3 then they backed down (as usually USA list interest in war but in reality they lost the War - The western media doesn't tell that because they are funded by the CIA) and now the situation is much more of a willingness to work with India because of China which doesn't allow US to openly admit that they actually were to attack not just to threaten India. The USA is never ashamed of committing war crimes, Japan has apologized for Pearl harbour but the USA has never apologized for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Us Srilankans are fking grateful for india, japan and USA. ESPECIALLY India and Japan. We were doing great for a while until the rajapkses ruled. Now under the new precendency and the help from India we are turning things around . Dont worry a powerful india is nothing to be feared of, but something to be respected. And all Srilankans are more than happy to help in anyway we can. As a small nation our only options is to be powerful commercially like singapore. So thats what we are targeting. Thnx bro ,it means a lot we want we wish srilanka to do well actually we want whole south asia to do well because this region had suffered a lot and things needs to be changed, And as a big brother (India) in this region it is India's duty to lead the voice of south asia on world platform so that this region could achieve more success and became self reliant

The most important thing that USA and China must always remember is that INDIA was never a Bully, is never a Bully and in the future, even if they own USA or the world, they will NEVER Bully. It is not there in their nature, principles and mindset. Way back in the past, when India was way ahead and powerful it still was never a bully.
Its because they are. Usa and america both have bad people. But in normal circumstances indian people really like foreigner and specially americans. Due to the movie Americans people got so much lime light here. And whenever you walk on the road in india you will feel like celebrity. Thats the feeling indian people give you...
The issue here is US is relatively new to this whole superpower thing, US has really only been in this position for little less than 100 years. It's just matter of time before India or China will take this place again, which they each held for couple of hundreds of years throughout history. Also culturally US is pretty much done, we have people who have been spoiled by the greed etc.
Not any time soon. People for get that nations like China and India don't have mature economy which can't facilitate too much expansion before ot starts to crack. It's not flexible because it grew too fast, and too many people are top poor, so most labor goes unused to build capital but rather to maintain already fragile systems. They are not self-reliant enough to pass us because they will need help just to build another leg for itself to stand on . Few nations are self-reliant when all shit hits the fan. Japan is but they can't outgrow the islands resources. America is still one of the few nations that can stand a total global economic collapse because our economy has enough legs to stand on with no one cuz the economy made slow transitions over the decades... new economy are fragile and depend on much of the day yo day spending of large population and the taking of low skill labour. So they nation will have money but can only buy foreign stuff with it. That dependency to another nation means they could always be gatekept out and most play ball. This is why India is playing neutral about Ukraine Russia
It's funny how you think something of the past will rise and regain a title... Why not the Roman empire or Egypt or Greece or whatever else. It's simply not happening.... The US is that nation that'll make it the 3rd nation that will dominate for centuries just like China and India did in the past.
@@komlat253 Empires rise and fall, anything human creates don't seems to last, the current economy is based on the western model and system is also created by the west, it is starting to crack. Both China and India have been around for more than 4000 years, and they are good at adapting to change. Never think you are better than them, western creation may work for now, but it won't last forever. You talk of self-reliant, but to date not a single county today can be self-reliant. If you open your eye and look around, the global south nations have already put de dollarization into motion, its only matter of time this will start to hurt the US. The path is slow, won't happen overnight, the process will last until the power of the dollar is no more. The US will 100% collapse, but the precondition is that the completion of de dollarization, and US debt crisis leading to nations like China, Japan, and EU mass dumping of US debt. Once these are complete, the US strength will be significant weaker, by then the US will no longer be able to support over 60% of your military, then the US international interest will threaten by everyone. The external threat will further divide the internal politics, and war will no longer on the table, the US can't not fight the world. 100 years is very short, its like a blink of an eye, China and India is playing a long game while the US and the west is only worrying about here and now. 100 years from now, I think the western system will be no more, the world will go back to the old systems, them its the US and the west have to adapt. Human being are greedy animals, the cycle will not stop, war will not stop, killing will not stop, and greed never sleeps.
@Tian Wang I'm not even defending America, I'm not really a capitalist either but what u say just lacks context. America is definitely in a u unique situation. Look at the data. America is the biggest but American is the least interdependent nation on earth just by resources alone .the leading exporter of gas and 2nd in oil .all the key components to a modern economy to stand already exists in American territory without trade which is unique to ,brexit or any other European nation is not like that. Also our debt and income is vastly better off than the other leading nations in debt . Not to mention America is the only super power and is the reserve currency in the world, it is literally because of the power of America that allows America to print more money which people will still buy .Japan can't print its own money. Japan not only as worse debt to income but also the economy don't move . They can go anywhere else. Same in China. China out spends much more than it's makes and the people can't even keep up. Not to mention China economy is not competitive like Japan even is ,being the world's manufacturer will only get your economy so far ,China has one of the lost GDP per capita out of any modern and even some developed nations . Japan lacks space and China lacks resources and therefore have to buy ..all that being as someone who lives in China and like the history, I'd say that whole idea of China standing for 4000 is a bit misleading but that's a whole different story. The longest and most unified dynasty of China was overthrown by the CCP . Don't consider the PRC and the Qing dynasty the same China. China was barely just unified and the so called middle country has always been miconations and ethnic groups trying to fully obtain a territory and call it one land and one people which is silly . It's like calling all pre colonial north American Indians one long lasting country for thousands of years just because they all were in the land with cities and leaders and stuff. The modern nation state is completely different than like 500 years ago. Places like Armenia and Ethiopia have be around 4000 plus years too but culture and these nations are still mostly divided on ethnic lines but China and India are not .those countries have always acted more as regions ad territories. The name that house those people have taken credit from the groups that have come and went through out the land so the way we look at them should be very different ..but just my opinion. But I don't think anything is forever. Not my point .but if nations are capable of adapting like u say , just like Egypt too then I dot see why America won't adapt too. The way people understand a rising and fall nation is weird to me if the economy of America falls but the people live then by the standards of China and India whoe suffer occupation, America will still be there . I mean according to the standards of a modern nation ,China is only 100 years old hah.. but yea by far .the US is the most self reliant nation with an army to back it up. I say all that with no emotional bias ,I'm not even patriotic but people ,especially right wingers misunderstanding the financial uniqueness America is in .

I have been studying Indian history for many decades and they have the oldest civilisation of over 50 thousand years, many think India is after 1947 but the real name is Bharat and nobody knows how old it is or put a number and western countries have no clue about India and who they’re really are or their culture, for example one of India’s scripture is at least 80 thousand years old. not once they betrayed anyone in their whole history and it’s purely driven by their Hindu culture and practice which says do good for humanity always, at any cost and extremely brave people. If it’s about competition then yes , India has the biggest pool of engineers , doctors and educated people and there’s no way anyone can do anything about it and they pay lot of attention to education and hard work, even if 10% become woke in India it’s nothing.
If 10% become woke and its the elite 10% the entire country will be subjected to woke. Democracy doesn't work the way you think it does. People follow the habits of the elite. That's what drives change. That's contrary to what people have been told about "bottom" up revolutions.

The difference between China and India as far as their relationship with the US goes, India shares more strategic interests with the US than it does with China. Our deal with China was always purely about labor.
China was actually our ally against the Soviets back in the day. This is the reason that US was selling Blackhawks and even were plans to retrofit the FC-1 with American engines before 1989 happened. I would say that 1989 was an excuse but it more of the fact that USSR was imploding at that point. That FC-1 ended up becoming JF-17 with russian engines that Pakistan bought from as China decided to not buy the aircraft in favor of the Flanker series. Kai mentions optimistically that India doesn't have as closed of a market like China but that is where India is moving forward to. India was closed of before 1991 and they have learned from China and other countries including USA if we go back until the Great Wars that you have to protect your industry. You open up when it is world class and able to compete with the rest of the world like for example Samsung. It is true that India doesn't have singular focus and is very corrupt compared to China so we might have a breather here but I expect us to against go into the ditch in the future with this outsourcing. Many analysts have said completely opening up your economy like what many African countries did and not building up industry is what doomed them. It is a delicate balance when it comes to protectionism and still be able to advance in world.
India also has a strategic relationship with Russia tho. India buys a ton of Russian military equipment and doesn't like to bad mouth them as well as works closer with them.

India as a country has learnt enough lessons looking at dynamics of western powers and Russia and China. India is very aware that it cannot hitch its ride to any power center (west or east). Even if USA wants to come and give all the business, India will always look after its national interests and may not even consider it. Also, India never had any hostile intentions or boundary issues with any western power. USA is better off distributing its manufacturing needs to multiple countries over one single county like China.
They funny thing is that Americans think Indians are not smart enough to think for themselves. Indians have their own interests and global ambitions, and they are learning from the current china-USA situation, and they have learned from the past Japan-USA relations in the 80's. I think that everyone is ignoring the fact that China is unashamedly anti-US in almost every way. If you build India's economy, then India will grow an actual middle-class that will be equals on the same terms with the US when it comes to military intervention and human rights. For China, their government has consistently shown no desire for democracy and the respect for human dignity. Even if India became the next world superpower, I'd welcome it. I just can't say the same about China. World trade is good. There's just a few exceptions and China is one of them. There's no reason to enable your enemies. India doesn't seem to want anything other than the same human rights and opportunities that the US has. We should let them. It would only benefit us both.

Actually it is USA that has to come as equals on the same terms with India when it comes to human rights. India is still majority native peoples. USA is majority invader & its actual natives are finished. USA exists because its founders wanted to invade & kill India but ended up in the Americas & did to the natives what they had in store for us Indians. The last thing we Indians want is to invade, exterminate other countries, forcibly convert them to our indigenous religions & so on - so on the war mongering nature, India & USA will NEVER EVER see eye to eye. In fact India became a nuclear state because USA threatened nuclear genocide on India for trying to stop the American funded & Pakistani executed r*pe holocaust of 3 million Bengali Hindus in Bangladesh (East Pakistan back then) in 1971. Look up the 1971 genocide, the largest religious holocaust since WW2. USA + Pakistan + UK vs India + Soviet Union. India won that war in a fortnight & Soviet Russia's help to drive away American & British nuclear carriers helped cement India-Russia military relationship.
@@SodiumSyndicate I feel like this is a fairly disingenuous comment made from false assumptions that the Indian people were not invaders and colonizers themselves, which they no doubt were. Just because it happened much longer ago, does not mean that the amounts of religious/political/racial persecution in India did not happen. The Indo-Aryan people certainly killed the vast majority of the natives and colonized the land. The cast system was definitely a form of racial segregation and prejudice. I'm not mad at India because this is no exception on the globe, as most people are descended from brutal, totalitarian invaders of whatever land they occupied. However, I don't find it to be a very honest place of discussion to say that one state established by colonization, rape, genocide, and pillaging is particularly different from another. It's ultimately the history of humanity as a whole. As far as modern day human rights go, I am skeptical that India has the same degree as the US, but it may be the case as I don't particularly know. I'd like to see some examples. That being said, I don't think that this kind of revisionist history based in fallacies of older countries is particularly valid. The Indo-Aryans genocided and subjugated the natives in India. so too did the Moguls, and so too did the British. This is not a particularly unique aspect to India as a whole. As far as America threatening nuclear genocide on India, I'd like to see what you are referring to. This seems pretty extreme, but I wouldn't particularly be surprised if the US did attack or invade India in the 70s because our interventionist policy and general world relations were terrible at that time. I just don't think that you will find many Americans commiserating with the militarism that we exhibited around the world at that time. It cost us many lives and many allies and we are trying to not lose either anymore. I just don't see how this relates to America's current policy on India.
India is a democracy like America unlike autocrat/dictatorship China, Indian politicians can not dream of imposing hard policies, like one child policy which are against basic human rights.

Well the issue is that China is also a large buyer and of iPhone. But yea the cost to make will be higher in America idk about India actually. It'd have to look up the exchange rate but I know Chinese people might make like 1500 Chinese dollars in a month in those factors and actually I think more cuz that's like a farmer salary. So it's like 220USD a month. I think Indian workers would make less actually. It's not that Chinese make no money but that they take no days off and even little children which is weird in a nation where there is so many holidays that are paid time off in China. Chinese people love the holidays, they always off work unless u at the bottom
I think if they want they can do it US is powerful enough to do it, but it will also mean India will also have to respond the same way.We will have to make up with China and look to chinese and Russians for more investments. And if some country's have good brains they will understand that funding India's growth will get them large commercial and defence orders that can transform their countries.

Dear Pat, USA doesn't need to be careful (or apprehensive) while dealing with India in business-partnerships. What US needs to be, is to be pragmatic. All US needs to do, is to come up with a win-win deal, wherein US can put in relevant clauses that protects its long-term interests. In America one individuals salary is equal to four times the salary of someone in India. The quality of work is the exact same. So if the company hires only American citizens to work in their company, they will need to significantly increase the cost of their products which will ultimately detrimentally affect Americans only.
So basically what Pat is trying to say is “hey we want you use your cheap labor, but don’t you dare think for yourself or try to compete with us” Honestly, no nation will be that stupid to oblige.
Western capitalists are spoiled and don't understand how totally 2 willing sides can't necessarily still fill offended or exploited . Sure it's not our fault to worry about it but don't paint it as unreasonable when others get upset. There's a reason why we dont recognize under age concent for sex . Power differences can never bargen on equal grounds and so the lesser accepts reluctantly or the child agrees to sex ignorantly. This is the arrogance of capitalism. Don't be scared . We all Indians know the behaviour of Super powers & their interests of influence .we can make the things ourselves also give to world because we believe in giving and not only taking . 🎉
I would say point to remember- India is a country of 1.5 billionnnew customers for american products and services too. Rising incomes, great appreciation for brands like Apple and Nike and a democracy. so greater alignment with the two markets. Economically it really is a 'win win'. Imagine if Indian govt put barreris on foreign companies and said 'we will only allow Indian companies to sell to indians'. Protectionism doesn't help anyone
There is no way when making deals in other countries to ensure contracts are honored. We barely have assurances in the US justice system. This is the risk you take dealing with anyone.
Pat, I thought you knew about India and Indians a little bit more. My bad. But, don't worry, we're a democracy and we'll be a democracy till humans exists.
One thing Patrick is forgetting there is tit for tat, if US or EU tries to put taxes like 25% for made in India then there will be similar tax on imports. As for Capitalism to work you need population for consumption and US alone cannot thrive without markets like INDIA. Currently, India is the biggest market for top US tech companies. Now is the time that US understand that you cannot do anything without facing consequences. US will be depended on developing, populous countries to sustain and grow.
Very true 👍. Pat has a good question which I assume he knows the answer. However, China has been a dictatorship since it's inception. They claim they are a democracy, but that country is ruled by a single party who has 100% of the power. This is much different from the government of India which is a Sovereign Socialist Secular Democratic Republic with a Parliament, a Prime Minister, and a President. There are very little similarities with building up India when compared to building up China.
The democratic countries have killed over 2 millios civils in Iraq, Afghanistan, Rwanda... Over the pass 25 years, how many independentistes have been killed by india every year? Over 1 thousand.
It's not all black and white look thoroughly at china's history, and then you can start understanding their political orientation. Democracy is not a one fit all solution.
America views itself as a democracy and China a dictatorship. This is, at most 50% true. China, actually, is a meritocracy which is what America feats most and dares not admit.

Roger brought up the best point. What China does is China looks ahead to see what direction the world's moving in and then they buy say the mineral rights cobalt for batteries. They don't need to buy the battery manufacturers they don't need to be the battery manufacturers they own the key component that goes into the batteries so you can't go around them. China's been doing this to my recollection since I was a teenager and I'm 57 now. China sold corn seed to American farmers and would buy your corn at a higher price. So everybody bought seed from China but now China lowered the price for what they pay for corn but no one's got any seed so you have to get it from China. You got to look deeper into China and figure out the ways that they do things It's not just what's working today and what's working tomorrow they look decades ahead and see what key component you have to have rather than buying out the industry itself.

U.S. will have lesser conflicts of interest with India than it has with China, the reason being that both countries share similar democratic values.

I look forward to working with India. Most foreign relationships have benefited the US. I think that it will be a lot more like our relationships with Japan and Korea.
India and us relation is nothing like Japan and Korea. India doesn't follow us blindly like they do and main thing is that India isn't following anyone it's here to lead
@@iz7828 I don't think that Korea or Japan do either. I mean, India can try to lead. I think it will be another hundred years before they realistically can, but I don't want them to follow America either. I just think that we can mutually benefit each other and I don't really see America or India as a threat to each other, regardless of who comes out on top in the end.
You are right. Indian and US are run by democracy. Decisions are not made by rude dictators like Communist China.
Here is the story on India (I am there now)...we think of money and bombs as the source of power. It isn't. The subtle strength of nations is in their spiritual strength and family structures. India will lead the world within a decade.

Yeah and Americans are by far the biggest consumers, there’s no country that really comes close. So Apple will have to come back to America.

People having knowledge of India's history know that Indians never had imperialist tendencies. You won't find equivalent of East India company, or Alexander, or Ghengis Khan at any time in India. While back-stabbing businessmen are everywhere, generally speaking Indians would be more happy having a stable business partnership than indulge in frictions of a hostile takeover.
Mutual bonhomie is rated higher in Indian culture than individual one upmanship. It's this culture why divorce rates (3-4%) in India, are among the lowest in the world. It's the stable families that create new generation of grounded personalities, that in turn are reasonable to deal with… in short term or long term.
This is not a sales pitch from an Indian... just trying to portray things in realistic proportion, that are sometimes blown out of proportion by stereotypes or sensationalist journalism.
With the aggression he’s showing, he wont be able to deal a peanut with india 😂
I think outsourcing is inevitable once you have a fully developed economy with a comfortable per capita income. For instance : I work for an American company that has offices in India. In America one individuals salary is equal to four times the salary of someone in India. The quality of work is the exact same. So if the company hires only American citizens to work in their company, they will need to significantly increase the cost of their products which will ultimately detrimentally affect Americans only.
Very simple way ..ask any Indian near you ..." your country first or your religion first?" He will always answer my country ❤
So basically what Pat is trying to say is “hey we want you use your cheap labor, but don’t you dare think for yourself or try to compete with us”
Honestly, no nation will be that stupid to oblige.
Competition is the basis of capitalism. Patrick knows this. He is using sensationalism

Pat has a good question which I assume he knows the answer. However, China has been a dictatorship since it's inception. They claim they are a democracy, but that country is ruled by a single party who has 100% of the power.
Damn this is a great insight thank you for sharing here.

As a result, you could be right about what you are saying in relation to India and USA. However, when you say India doesn't need the USA, I find that very hard to believe. The USA can provide India with many things like intelligence, technology, economic opportunities, and I'm sure a few more things as well. In any bilateral relationship both sides would benefit from the relationship. It wouldn't just be one side.
Please read History of Ratan tata with ford, youll be much more clear about the relation, also please try and find meaning of "vasudev kutumbakam" 🙏
True. There should have been someone who knows about India a bit deeper. We conduct and do things with mutual respect, growth and benefits.
@@voidmain9519 Agreed soon they believe and recognize and respect when the third world county will become third largest economy

It has to be happened because both were real super powers in ancient times and both were extorted by foreign powers ❤
In 10,000 years of past history, India never attacked any country. India has Zero interest in others’ business. We don’t have scarcity mindset in anything. “VASUDHAV KUTUMBAKAM= World in one family” with difference of opinion. That’s the beauty of the planet!
Save Planet 🌎, save humanity, Respect difference of opinion!!
Well said
First of all, you well meaning but simpleton gentlemen, you need to understand India's DNA.
India is:
1. Not interested in monopoly or dominating others.
2. Not interesting in destroying anybody, except those who harm us.
3. The world's largest market to come - nobody is going to say no to a 1.7 billion people market.
4. Interested in peace and prosperity for everyone.
5. Friends with both sides in any global conflict - take a look (Israel v Palestine, Russia v USA, most importantly the Shia v Sunni conflict in the Muslim world - India is friends with all Islamic countries, save Pakistan and India still has full diplomatic relationship with Pakistan)
6. Interested in a win win situation that nobody is grumpy with, or hoping to screw anybody with.
7. Investing in science, technology, and mathematics education for its youngest generations.
8. Interested in the world having a positive view of India.
9. The world's largest democracy, and very very stable - there is no need to be paranoid about anything in the system.
10. Looking to solve the world's problems, not become another problem for the world!
Take your pick!
