  • Alex Payne and Mike Tindall cross codes with one of the greatest players to ever play rugby league - the legendary Kevin Sinfield - in one of the most powerful episodes yet. Together they talk marathons, Rob Burrow, Doddie Weir and the power of friendship. Plus, signing a contract aged 13, making your debut three years later, and almost giving it all up to come to Union.

As a die-hard Bradford supporter, I take my hat off to Kevin Sinfield. A really tough competitor on the pitch - but what a hell of a man off it!
Seeing this for the first time in Dec 2022 - what an impact he has now had on Union coaching with Leicester. ……And who knows what lies in store for the future.

What a great ambassador for sport in general and a role model - oozed class & humility. Telling why he was Captain for so long and why Leeds achieved what they did.

I’m from Australia and knew the name Kevin Sinfield well from when the Kangaroos would play Great Britain in tests throughout the 2000s and 2010s I guess. I didn’t know anything about him personally until watching this video. He seems like a terrific guy and obviously the work he’s done for MND etc is outstanding. Glad I watched this.

What an absolute top man. You can listen to sportsmen talking their games, but you can also tell when someone has elevated to a different class both in their sport and life. Another excellent show, maybe the best along with the Jason Robinson episode.

I love both codes. I do media for California Rugby League. I was also at the LA Giltinis game last night. That's our Union comp. When I watched the Burrows documentary I literally cried about 5 times in my kitchen doing the dishes. I'm sure my Mrs. was wondering what I was watching. Ha

Excellent Pod, can we have a few more cross league cross overs please?
I live in a massively league area, and do get my fair share of banter for being a yawnion kick and clap fan. but they are both immense sports, and I love union, really like league. there is still a massive resentment towards union ( not totally unjustified)
    more like this please

    • @mikegray8776
      @mikegray8776 Рік тому

I think such small resentment as still exists, is only to do with the attitudes of a small minority of union supporters - and not cross-code players.
I have been a supporter of both Bradford Bulls and Wasps for decades - and am equally passionate about both codes. Sadly, it seems as though my support seems to signal the imminent demise of any team - but I’m hoping that Aston Villa and Warwickshire CC manage to break the voodoo.

Sinfield was a top top player in a world class Rhinos side. But what he has done since leaving the game has shown that he is a true legend on and off the field and rugby as a whole should be proud of what he has done in the last 12 months. #SirKev

I was at Headingley when Kev made his home debut. I remember him scoring a really cheeky try when the opposition player went a bit easy on the 16 year old in the tackle. Don't think any team ever made that mistake again.

Great show! The Sir Kev comes from us (Yorkshire) bestowing our own honour on people we know should be knighted but won't be because of sporting politics or being too outspoken. Geoff Boycott was another one. He was always known as Sir Geoffrey in Yorkshire when I was a kid. Kev has been Sir Kev at Headingley for years. As he's doing the business in Union he'll probably get one now! I jest! 😆

as a Rhinos fan, i thank you! always great to hear Sir Kev speak. Jamie Peacock would be a great one to pick his brains absolute machine and now a motivational speaker. Also Stevie Ward who does his own 'Mantality', promoting mens mental health, named Rhinos Captain then had to retire due to long term affects of a concussion injury. Any other League players lined up?

Having had a long and strongly emotional ties to Yorkshire/Lancashire,(Girlfriends/Ex's/and almost a couple of wives) I enjoyed League, but my Soul is Union. I lived in Hull for a few years and loved going to the Derby, (more like a football match, serious tear-ups). Hearing Sir Kev speak and his life story is a model for any young and upcoming sports men and women. What a man! This bloke should be employed by the UK Sports Council as a mentor/guide! Great episode!

I may be picking up or missing out on a tongue in cheek comment, and apology if so, but a straight answer to this is, I don't believe he has to perform for the audience. His natural northern charm is the very essence of that he is what he is, love it or hate it.

I remember when Crusaders started in Wrecsam. I remember the excitement and the games. They actually still exist you know. North Wales Crusaders, still in Wrecsam. In League one semi pro. I still follow them. Crusaders in League and Llanelli in union, (now Scarlets), a gentle 3.5 hours drive between stadiums. But still Cymru. Cymru am byth.

What this individual has done for MND, Rob Burrow and for his sport has been absolutely incredible. The whole sporting community should be lobbying the Prime minister to get this Guy a knighthood. Or should he drive a car around a track 80 times and hide his money in a tax haven to get it.

He's really not one of the greatest players to play rugby league and nobody would think that, even kevin himself. He is however the greatest captain to play for Leeds (from a Rhinos fan)
