- In this video I fabricate a bale spike suitable for carrying 3x 120x90 heston bales.
First job is to cut the steel box section to length using the chop saw, the box section then needs the holes cutting for the tine bushes to be welded in. This is done on the cnc plasma.
The tines are then squared up and welded into the box. This is done with the bottom box and also the two up rights.
After the tines have been welded in, the frame is then laid out on the bench, squared up and tacked together. The end caps are welded on, the extra tine bush strengthening plates are cnc plasma cut out and tacked on. The first stage of welding is then done.
The bale spike is then taken off the bench, the tines are removed and then the rest of the frame is welded.
With the frame laid face down the JCB Q fit brackets are welded on.
After all welding in complete, the frame is sprayed with degreased and power washed off.
It is the sprayed painted with red oxide and then finished in black.
Finally job is to add my stickers, ID plate and refit the tines.
Thanks for watching! - Наука та технологія
You and Cutting Edge in Australia are my absolute favorites when it comes to welding. Excellent job.
Have to agree, they put their all into each and every job whether it their projects or a customer's project!!💯
Agree, though Isaac of ICWeld is pretty good too.
Great channels. I'll add the channel NBS Welding to that list.
Yeah tough call, both channels are superb, great content, many thanks!
Kurt's, Karen, and homie and on such a highr level, you can't honestly compare them.
this clown is not professional in anyway. CEE seams to do everything exactly as it should be done to manufacturers specifications. I have a masters in mechanical engineering so I have a fair idea what I'm talking about.
I would not let this guy work on my lawn tractor
I am glad that you talk about spacing your welds to avoid heat warping because when I first taught myself to weld I never thought about that and learned some hard lessons
You say "simple fabrication", but watching at all the extra time you put into welding process and adding extra plates for strength and longevity, most folks slap stuff (and being generous by calling it stuff and not 💩) you do extremely nice looking and well thought out builds, and for that sir you are 1 in a million 👏👏👏👏👏
Your skills as an engineer, problem solver and fabricator are a joy to watch on each and every project you perform. Continued success in your endeavors. Greetings from Ohio, USA.
First class. The local farmers must love you. Excellent workmanship
Regards from 🏴
Well I'll go to our Hilders house. While converlessing after an industrial accident in 2003, I travelled all over the UK, USA, Australia, and New Zealand with my uncle Herbert selling Perkins Diesel Engines for agricultural machines.
As part of his sales regime we visited large farming estates, agricultural shows, even attended confrences and display markets.
In the 2 years I spent with Uncle Herbert, in all of those countries, I saw many different adaptions to regular accessories but I have never seen a Bale Spike like the one you just built.
In view of its size and how the Americans stack their bales, that design would go down a treat.
Perhaps if you were to contact the right person in America who could sell this design, you could be a millionaire in no time at all.
You just need the right contact and to sort out the best way of making these Bale Spikes on an industrial scale. Great job BTW 😉🇬🇧⚒️
Hello from Oklahoma, USA. Another great project Oliver and attention to detail is awesome! Looks better than a factory hay spike to me. Much more robust. You are fun to watch as the project takes life. Keep up the great work.
The CNC plasma cutter makes short work of the strengthening plates that if you had to make by hand would probably took longer than the main frame, definitely a good investment as it shows how you go the extra mile in making your jobs stronger and more pleasing to the eye at the same time.
Great stuff Oliver, love the cnc plasma cutter, thats a game changer for sure, thanks for sharing buddy
I do love all the small tips and tricks I see in your videos, especially the multiple use of clamps in every possible way... thanks a lot! And the final result is always really great! If you could throw in a minute at the end when using things it would be awesome!
Superb bit of fab Oliver , my last job was based on my bosses dads farm nothing like spending 10 hours driving then start bale/ corn carting till the early hours , Happy days ,
You really do really nice, accurate, attention to detail oriented, high quality work. That looks factory made! Just great work. As an FYI, I really enjoy you repairing broken things as you apply those same skills to those repairs. Keep up the great work.
Nice to see an easier fabrication 👌🏼 and glad you got time to get outside in aircon JD 😜
Nice bale spike. We shared this video on our homemade tools forum this week 😎
Awesome thank you!
Gday, throughly enjoyed this build, there’s more then meets the eye building implements like this, great job mate, cheers
I would recommend putting 2 6mm plates pads on the base, one either side. As we have found over time the base gets worn thin from being dragged along the floor or moved about.
An interesting build that young man, good workmanship too.
How about a “Snowball Engineering” standard colour. That blue you used was nice offsetting your stickers. 😊
Every farm I’ve ever visited appears to have spiky, bladed and rusty machinery everywhere. I’m amazed anyone survives.
Great work Oli.
The death rate in farming is very high compared to other industries 🙈
Very nice work, really wood like to see it do the job it was made for .from us USA boys 😊
Brilliant as usual. I hope you get some sponcership and new machinery and tools.
Damn good! You have skills that are awesome!!! Keep up the good work. Just recently found your site, I will keep a eye out for your new videos. Thanks
Nice work as always. Thank you for sharing.
You do amazing work!
Let's not forget Abom79, love him too..
Brilliant job, well done fella.
Interesting and fun project. Great job!
Great to see the old steel rule come out after all that CAD work. Excellent job as always, thank you for posting. Just a thought; not good to leave a battery around the work table. Horrible memory of a cat shifting a plate onto one and a very nasty meltdown happened but was caught before a fire got hold. Stay safe.
Wonderfully medieval!
Fantastic job.
Good solid build.Nice work
That’s a cracking job
Nice project and a very nice build. Well done!
Well done Oliver, top work! They really look nice!
No one can say this lad doesn't have the tools. nice one top job
interesting to know a little about farming ,something a lot of people don't know anything about
Wow, excellent work!!
Love your videos keep em coming really enjoy your craftsman ship
Great video man, keep'um coming.
Attention to detail as expected of you top job 👌👌👌👌
Nice plating to spread stress, quality product, you should be proud of what you make. Think Cat, quality always matters, always sells to discerning customers.
Well done looks a good sturdy job thanks.
great fab work ,more please !!!
Great work Buddy 👌🏼👍🏻
Excellent stuff man keep posting
Awesome job!
Another great fabrication job! I like how you explain the breakdown of your jobs. Keep them coming, cheers!
Great work as usual
Fine looking bale fork 👍 years ago i worked for farm in Ireland we used to bale 25500 big square bales for the composters for mushrooms. The forks we used had an extra two sleeves in the bottom for the top bad bales on the rick if they were a bit dodgy ( already compost 🫣) The only thing i would change would be to have nothing on the top of the fork have it clean we used to send oaten straw to northern ireland and scotland in curtainsiders as back loads and the curtains needed a push every now and then 😉
Thank you for sharing, I learn a lot 👍👍👍👍
It was interesting seeing this bale spike being made. Here in Australia, I've seen a similar bale spike being used on TV.
A nice bit of tractoring there as well very good bit of fab work. Who could ask for anything more. Thanks Ruth😁❤
Oliver, yet another quality piece of work. 👍🏴
Top work yet again mate
Excellent work Oliver 👍👍👍. Thank you for sharing. Be safe 🇨🇦
Nice straightforward job mate, not like some of the shit jobs you've had of late. Top work as always, and well explained 😀
Yip, a cutting edge SnowBall Experience... excellent job...
Nice work mate
Great video! Your fabrication projects are awesome. Love how you put the extra strength throughout the project. Your welds are top notch!
Excellent job.and a
Cracking video
Another great channel is “I C Weld”
Waiting for the log splitter video !
Will get around to it soon. It’s one of them jobs that’s just getting done inbetween jobs.
Hi Oliver, Your workmanship is just so precise and a pleasure to watch you work away and the finished article outstanding , keep up the same quality and you aint gona be short of cash Stan.
Wow! Those tines look really scary! Good fabrication job as always. Thanks for letting us watch! 😊 Our barley has all been harvested here in central Germany.
You made very good
Excellent to watch great engineering
That looks really good! The paint job and stickers makes it look just as good as any factory equipment. Subbed and liked 👍
Thanks pal, I did enjoy....defo the best heston bale lifting implement manufacturing video I've watched today.
I was going to ask about box section bowing but then you mentioned it. I had this recently when adding decorative spikes to a gate - it was only 2mm section so interesting that it can still happen with thicker stuff
Quality first class job!
More excellent quality workmanship by you ! That bail spear will be an effective solution to moving bails!
Great video nice job you couldn't buy one as tuff as you made it.
Hi Oliver, hope you're keeping well. Another enjoyable video and another project completed. I enjoy watching you working around problems and explaining your methods, very informative. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the great work. PS. I hope you've recovered from working outside in the sunshine and fresh air. 😂👍✌
Very nice...would of been nice to see them in use.. but good to watch you make stuff as usual.
Not often I get to actually see what I’ve made in use.
cheers, glad you explained how it spikes the bales at the end, we only have small rectangular bales here and the large round ones. For the life of me I couldn't work out how it was going to work.
I love your videos 👍
Just subscribed as I seem to be getting a few of your videos coming up on my feed. Boy would I love a shop the size of yours . Did wonder about the location on the farm as the last video you had a combine come through just as you set up to lance out a pin . Looks a nice sturdy piece of equipment and I love the pattern of weld on the tine mounts that's a beautiful flow of weld . I shall look through the playlist and I'll be enjoying the videos . Thanks and well done from what I've seen theres some very good work
Another quality job. I bet most companies don't bother with all the extra plates to support the tines. That thing should last. When I was young the combines were small enough to go down the road with the headers on. I remember the first ones coming out with the detachable header. And the width they cut was amazing. Today they would be a joke. We used to use a bale juggler for the small bales. Then a 5 bale stacker. Make up a stack of 40 bales. And then use a 40 bale clamp to grab them. Pick another 5 up on the front to help balance the 40 on the back. And run them back to the barn 45 at a time. You could load out the barn 5 bales at a time with the front loader. Sure beat the hand loading we did before that. The small bales were so easy for bedding the cows down through the winter. One year we did try some big round bales. They were part of a demonstration of a new round baler. Just on the market. They were a pain to move about. And made bedding down too hard. Stuck with the little bales. Nobody wants to lift anything anymore. Hence all the machinery and attachments. It was even starting to come in back in the 70's.
Beautiful job. Love the small details you add that make it better and individual to you.
Sounds like lots of farmers are struggling to get the harvest in. Hope yours is going well.
G'day Mate! A most entertaining video as usual. Oliver, you gave us a glimpse of your other jobs on the farm, I'm sure I speak for many when I suggest you show us more of the farm. It would be good to see you doing farming chores and maintenance repairs in the field etc. and even showing us around your locality. anyway thanks for the videos, I keep watching and learning.
Looks like that will last a good while, really well built
Crikey I made 1 very similar several years ago Oliver
Not so high as stacking 3 quadrants. Never plated the bushes like you did. Works much faster than a flat 8 type grab. Love watching you work!
Another job done, another solid video knocked out. Anything worth doing is worth over doing and not even a wheetabix day
That was an excellent job you have an excellent engineering skills and I like it I am just starting to get the hang of welding but you left me miles and miles behind well done I am truly enjoy watching you videos and learning in the process thank you very much for that .
Very Good Job My Friend ❤❤❤❤❤
Awesome video, thank you
Looks great finish with decals and the flag, well done sir!
Thank you kindly
top class fabrication
Man! You do it all!!😊 this video was great from start to finish! Excellent talent! Thanks for sharing! “ keep them coming “ 👌👍
Thank you! Will do!
Nice job well done ..nice to hear how you explain the heat and stress points for welding to stop the metal bowing thks .
It may be simple, but it is still an accurate piece of engineering with all that it entails. I lived in rural Wiltshire for 20 years and tractors going up and down the roads with various attachments was a regular thing. There were a few accidents but thankfully none involved bale tines as they were carried above the car height. Great post, thank you.
Mint job 👍🏻🇬🇧
Muito bom! Parabéns por mais um trabalho perfeito. Abraços do velho professor do Brasil.
Cool to see you out and about today. The shirt looked smart and you can’t mistake that hair, hope you had a good weekend yourself despite the rain 🌧️.
Thanks! Absolutely great weekend! Welland is a fantastic show.
@@snowballengineering Agreed! And I think this year was one of the best I have been to, seemed more there than I can remember before, certainly more than last year. Have you taken any video of it?
Some lovely welds there mate, only thing I found with the spikes I made was the the brackets needed to be more of an angle to get a decent rollback on a JCB especially on rough ground.
Yeah I made 1 very similar several years ago and spaced bottom of the bracket off the beam 8 inches used a couple peices off plated box from my new Claas rake that came packed on a pallet used to hold axle to pallet and I had to assemble. Wondered why Micheal Burdge was cheaper than Hambleys lol
Hello friend. Great Channel.🍻🍻
Great Video!
Another nice build Olly.
When those chop saw blades go off, they go off quick ! I bought a Chinese circular saw sharpening machine off t'internet, as usual, it was really just a kit of parts, they should label their gear under "Projects" 😂 I've fiddled on with it and got one of my Evo 14" blades cutting again but it's wandering off a bit, I need a bit more tweaking, but if it does two blades, its paid for itself.
Comment for the algorithm to help the channel 👍.
Good effort, hope the weather was good foe the baling…
