I'm working on my 1967 Camaro with a sbc 350..white smoke high pressure in the coolant ,and i installed a clear hose between the intake manifold and the waterpump and can clearly see air bubbles when i bring up rpms, I have no choice but to pull the heads and have them magnafluxed by a machine shop, thank you for you great video and explaining in detail..
Hey man, really loving your vids and your work. I'm a Construction equipment mechanic and your videos really help the thought process. Shout out from Barbados
KW Uses air operated heater valves in some of there bunks that when the seals fail internally they introduce air under system pressure into the cooling system. When this happens it will produce bubbles in the bottle test, as well as air locking the thermostats. I hope this info helps somebody out there. Thanks AA for the great content in your videos.
If your CAT in your KW overheats when you turn your ac on ,you may have this problem.Try turning off the manual heater valves to the sleeper heater located by the water pump on c15 and 3406 engines. If your over heating problem goes away you have a bad heater valve at the sleeper. I have encountered this problem on 2 different trucks. Change the valve .Problem solved!
Dude I just wanted to stop and say videos you do are awesome. Its like that little bit extra you keep given your info is very helpful. I'm not working on a big rig like you are I'm just working on it term Max The diesel motor still the same. I'm rambling on but just want to say great job on the video
Thanks for the videos. I have found them very helpful and interesting. I have a 2005 Bounder with a 300HP C7. We tow a 2017 F-150 behind it. I replaced the radiator and charge air cooler 2 years ago, about 12k miles ago. Total miles is about 96k. Last year the fan hub bearings seized near Williams, AZ and I had it repaired in Bellemont. I also had them flush the heater lines and replace both thermostats. He gave me an extra gallon of coolant because he said it would need to be refiled if there was any air in the coolant system that hadn't worked out yet. Last week it almost overheated while driving to Pahrump, getting just up to the 3/4 line. The check engine like came on. When it dropped just below the 3/4 line the temp read 213° F. When I got to the RV park the coolant was low so I filled it up. Driving back to the Central Valley it started to heat up, but never got up to the 3/4 line, which is about 215° F. I can put my finger into the top tank when cool and it reaches coolant, so it is pretty full after driving the 300 miles home. I don't see any evidence of coolant in the oil or oil in the coolant. I warmed it up on a short drive and tried the bubble test anyway and got no bubbles. I sure would like any suggestions about possible reasons for the heating up. It is usually on a grade, but some grades hardly affect the temperature at all.
I took my cylinder head to the machine shop to be rebuilt and find out its cracked between the valves on cylinders 5 they said they can fix it for extra $$. I need to know if that's worth it or better get a new one.
If you are not sure clean the surface, put kerosene or parafin( im not sure about the english name), the sort you use for a heater or lamp, on the surface and wipe it clean. Then use white chalk on the surface. If its cracket the parafin that stayed in the crack will discoulour the chalk. There is a kit called coulour check or dye check. Works rhe same way. Also to be used on welding checks.
cool videos. I used to work for a truck shop for years. Ive had to replace several heads on c15s. I used your method before. Works awsome. Two were due to broken water pumps and trying to make the delivery. Don't take much to crack thise heads.
+Alex Alanis The C13 heads are really easy to crack, just get the engine over 230 and it's done usually. C15 heads are a little more robust, but don't get it too hot. Thanks for commenting.
I spent about 5 years on Diesel Generators and then went to Trucks. Never touched the equipment, luckily I'm a good engine Mechanic now, but all the hydraulics seems alien to me.
Learned a lot from your videos. My c15 ate a gallon of water in three weeks. I did the bottle test and it didn't bubble at first but then it started bubbling not as bad as your video but there is bubbles. Wonder if it could be radiator cap weak
I started losing water 12 gallons in a month on my C13 Cat. I had a bad cap gasket so I replaced the cap. That caused the motor to burn so much water it blew white smoke and skipped badly. So I put the old cap back on and tied a gallon jug under the hood to catch the water out the over flow so I could haul until the garage was ready to take it.in. When my jug got full I dumped it back into the radiator. Its in the shop now in fact. Can't wait to see what they find. Hoping for a blown head gasket only but we'll see. He said there should not be be bubbles going on at all. Never ever! You could have a cracked head, blown head gasket, bad pre cooler, leaking air compressor or cracked liner. All the things he mentioned driver. Come on!
Yes it's c15. I Replace head on this engine 150'000 miles ago and that start blowing air into the radiator I take the head off and the gasket the rings are black on one side but I don't see cracks on the head I'm thinking what to do.
+vitaliy kostenko Cat recommends the counterbores be cut at 750,000 miles. If you've pulled the head twice already it would be a good idea, even though it's a pain to do. If your fire ring was damaged on the head gasket as well then the counter bores is even a better idea.
Been following you for a while now. Finally got a good question to ask. How would you tell if the liners were cracked versus the head or head gasket failure. My truck is pressuring and getting slight mixing. No smoke from exhaust but definitely white blow by
Ok so I’ve got a 2012 Ford Focus SE. First had a coolant leak. Sent it to the Ford Company to get it fixed. They hit me for $800. After watching this video. I learned that I had pressure build up. So you telling me the top line mechananics this place didn’t do that this and tell me. Is there something I can do? Cuz I’m pretty sure they owe me a new motor for free. Literally. Still have all my receipts and everything.
I have a c7 that is constantly pushing coolant out of the surge tank however it has never shown classical signs of head gasket failure at any temperature should I look at the air compressor or could it be injector cups
+Brent Hoadley Great to here another happy subscriber. I try to just go by the Adept Ape title on here, I'm not sure if my company would like me to be making these videos or not, so I don't say which shop I'm in or my name. If they tell me it's alright then I'll just go by my name, for now though I'm incognito.
+Adept Ape companies don't like to share their good techs my man But let's say your sharing your vids from another planet and your name is riddick 😂 good vids always 👍
+Adept Ape i Was gonna ask you what you do whenever you find a bent push rod besides replacing lifters and camshaft and of course bent push roads I replaced pretty much every part even oil pump since the shavings went all around the engine I even found a bent exhaust valve just minutes before putting it all back together That was on a c-9 engine by the way I appreciate your advice

Great videos! Found them looking for help with my symptoms and ended up watching about 8 so far. I have a 2009 C15. Bottle test looks exactly like your video, but no white smoke, smooth, no sludge or moisture sign on dipstick or oil filler cap. No change with compressor pressure line unhooked. Was pushing out 1 gal of coolant per week. Suddenly changed to 1 gal per day for a week. Last day pushed a gallon per hour. Idle or loaded doesn't seem to make much difference. Any thoughts? Thanks and keep up the good work.
+survivethewalkingdead That is a lot of coolant consumption. If it is pressurizing the coolant out that bad then you most likely have a blown head gasket or cracked head. Check that radiator cap too, but it should not be causing that much coolant to be lost.
Hey thanks for the vid. What if I get bubbles for a few minutes when up to operating temp but then they stop? I had an overheat the other day due to fan clutch and ever since then been running a litte warm when loaded.
I know this is an awkward question Josh but my accert C15 2005 doesn't have any hose on the reservoir, do you happen to know the hose size to buy some and do the test? Thanks for this amazing video by way
The cap might be the kind that vents through the cap. In which case you have to usually put a latex glove over the cap and see if it fills up with air after it warms up.
Wat if I have just bubbles in my reservoir tank but no bubbles out of my overflow tube (like in your video)? It's a c15 6nz. Just changed head due to the exhaust studs being broken off high mileage etc..
My truck has a Cat C15 and the it’s releasing white smoke through the hole where you add oil and also where the oil dip stick go.. you have idea what that might be??
Good afternoon Josh. I have a Caterpillar C10 with this exact problem. I am fixing to replace the head sleeves bearings the whole 9. My question to you is; how do I prevent this from happening again? Your thoughts suggestions will be appreciated. Ps. Can you forward me a link to where I can donate to your channel because your information is absolutely fantastic.
No sludge in oil but blowing oil/white smoke out exhaust Jeep 2.0 turbo 2019 150k floored it then cylinder 4miss fire changed plugs n coils still blowing oil/white smoke any help? Low compression in 4&2 plzzzz save my Jeep Cherokee
I watched them and they were well done, but you should use Windows movie maker and then you can splice all the little video segments together, it really helps, plus it's free if you have a Windows computer. I didn't know anything about videos before this channel and now I'm okay at making them, not a pro obviously. Maybe give it a shot, could help your channel grow.
I have a kenworth T2000 2007 C15 475 hp twin turbo! About 4 months ago the temperature gauge went crazy over 250! And motor shut down i had to stop and go stop and go for 100 miles to get to the yard! The coolant is pushing back out of the reservoir! Now every time i start the engine within 10-15 min it over heats! There is no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant! The only place water is coming out of is the reservoir little hose on the side A LOT and engine over heats. Any idea what could it be? Some people are telling me cracked cylinder hear and head gasket or liners or piston sleeve! Would this be possible since there is no coolant in the oil and no oil in the coolant? I have changed the oil cooler and water pump at Caterpillar almost two years ago. Any help would be appreciated. 🙏🏼
For what its worth 9 out of 10 times there is a reason for the head gasket failure, on the cyl with the problem it is imperative that the liner be pulled and the counterbore examined with a trained eye. There is a very good chance there is a crack in the counterbore. The procedure for that is done with a counterbore cutter, cut out the crack and shim it back and set liner protrusion, check the rest, if you dont, be right back with the same problem. I dont see a video on cooling system maint ? Folks need schooled on AF and how it turns acidic. Nice job on the vids
Eating coolant on my 04 fright liner Columbia mbe 4000 replaced twice head gasket and only one is still leaking coolant from passenger side but no smoke coming from exhaust so I’m confused. Vin# m11891 number 2 cylinder from the fire wall I need help please
there is no bubbles at all when I parked with truck running, that only happens when running on the highway, how can I check if it's the air compressor? thanks for your help.
I’m having the same problem. I’m leaning towards cracked head, but when I got the head back from the machinist he didn’t say anything about it being cracked
Love and appreciate all your videos! I have a question. My 05 CAT C7 with 130k miles in my Fleetwood Discovery RV dropped a valve and demolished the block. It's a 330 H.P. KAL. I found an engine out of a Neptune R.V. and it is also a KAL but it says it is a 360 H.P. engine. Will my computer work on that engine? What are the differences between the two engines if any?
@@AdeptApe i have the same.issue. no bubbles,no white smoke it just pushes the coolant out lots of pressure build up ..blew out my lower coolant hose that goes to radiator while driving.
Adept Ape I just did a gold overhaul on my kw900l cat 3406e and after I drove 200 miles my radiator cap came all the way loose and some coolant comes out, I did the bottle test couples of times and there was no bubbles at all... my radiator mounting are really bad, the hood is also very loose it's kind of pushing the radiator cap down...do you think that's the reasons why the cap comes loose???? I have a 2001 6nz C-15 with about 1.3m miles. The truck pushes a little white-ish smoke out the stackes, but no sign of coolant in the oil and It doesn't have an over flow reservoir to do a bottled test but I am sure there is a way. My question is when replacing a head gasket, can you get away with just replacing the gasket or is it best to do a rebuild? Ps. Love the vids, I think I watched pretty much all of them. Thanks
Hello sir! I have a 6nz that has been given me headaches. It started to blow coolant from tank reservoir and keeps ruining the water pump. I have replaced the water pump 3 times and still ruines them. The fouth time i removed the head and gasked seemed to be new since overhaul was done las year. Took cylinder head to shop to test and tech said head had no problems. And said i had to change air compressor. So I bought new air compressor and installed it as well new water pump for the fourth time.installed cylinder head with all new gasket lit from cat.Ran truck to full days and leak started again. Any chance you have come across a problem like this? Thank you for all you do!
My friend had the same problem there was a piece of round metal in the coolant resovuor which would bloack the water pump inlet pipe. Check the resovior.
So i have been told i have cobustion in coolant my truck doesen smoke U have any sugetions am i going to do a head gasket ,cracked head,or am i going to be doing a inframe on cummins
I put new radiator fill neck and a new cap and the cap still come off only when I drive it like more than 100 miles see...I leave my truck running all night long and everything goes well...but whenever I start driving boom the cap comes all the way loose...
+Immer Pineda Hmmmmm, you need to check that cooling system for compression, sounds like you are getting compression in there and popping the cap, could be air compressor too.
please help I bought a Freightliner Columbia with the C15 motor about two years back the motor just had a head replaced on it and I'm not going to lie this truck was doing very very great for me and I had zero problems .just maybe replace a injecto .just a couple days ago I added mothers oil leak because I had a little leak going on very minor next day after I ran it I noticed that there was a little bit of oil leaking on the side of the head which never happened now I have crazy pressure in my coolant tank.but the leak isnt a drip stain more like a residue.
Great Video. I got a 3306C head off and kaint find a bad spot in gasket.A coolant seal by #6 Exhaust side had material missing between ring and seal. Haven't seen any crack yet. I thought for sure I would see a bad spot at #3. Also liners look great.I will never do that again. I hadn't seen the bubble test trick yet and haven't been a diesel mechanic for years. Do you have any suggestions of a weak spot on the 3306C. Really seemed like its is a compression leak when hot. This Engine has led me to you. Fan #89000.41 THANKS
I assume your pushing coolant out of the overflow. The last thing I do is pull the cylinder head. I may get it hot and pull nozzles with rockers backed off and psi test each cylinder with a hose hooked to a bucket and see if shop air is leaking into that cylinder. Liner flanges could be cracked, crack around carbon area of liner. Seen air operated heater control valves. Bad radiator cap, (Needs 15-16 psi), back neck on radiator itself. Incorrect way of doing a bottle test. Correct way have radiator cap off, adapter on neck with a hose down to a five gallon bucket or so. Thermostat fully open, take a bottle (usually a pint bottle) and fill with water. Insert hose into bottle and invert bottle in bucket of water. Time how long it takes to push water out of bottle until bucket starts to bubble. Usually forty five seconds or less engine has to much gases leaking into cooling system. Some engines the time may vary.
+Richard Cowtails You could certainly do this with a gas engine. Now the head doesn't always crack into a coolant rail though so it's possible you may have a crack and not push any bubbles, but if it is then this should catch it.
I have air getting into mine but no milky oil, holds air pressure in radiator for days maybe even weeks. Cat 3126 2000. No white smoke , no diesel in radiator fluid either😊
the cylinder bore crack because the construction, size , valve diameter and the injector gap to close.. cant hold the pressure combust and the engine temperature
I just did a overhaul on my w900l cat3406e and I drove about 200 miles and the cap of the radiator came all the way loose and some coolant comes out...I did the bubbles test couples of times and there was no bubbles at all...my radiator mounting are very bad plus my hood is also very loose it's kind of pushing the radiator cap down...dou think that's the reason why the radiator cap comes loose???? thank you...
+Immer Pineda The radiator cap will usually only come off for mechanical reasons like something moved it or the tabs are worn out on the cap or expansion tank. You probably need a new cap and if you aren't getting bubbles then your engine is probably fine.
+Wendell Jones Some of Cats engines have them, but I checked the dealer tool catalog and there was nothing for a C7. There was a C7.1 compression tester, but that is a Kutch different engine. There may be one out there, but from what I could find there was nothing.
+Wendell Jones You can still check the cylinders, if you watch my video about doing cylinder cutout tests and checking for weak cylinders I test the cylinder with an air nozzle. Check the video out and see if that helps you.
+Omar That depends on the serial number, typically pin 70 is for the switched 12v source and then the constant hots vary depending on what your exact serial number is.
Just from what I'm looking at... This engine has just been overhauled, and now there is a problem... Hope they didn't need the truck. Three rules of car hauling apply here. 1 ). Act surprised 2 ) Look concerned 3 ) Deny everything
could you answer me this i dont have exhaust in the coolant i dont fuel in the coolant and i dont have coolant in the oil and i dont white smoke and no i have not done the bubble test like you show in the vid but i do however have coolant coming out the cap so you are telling me that its a head gasket but it could be a liner and this is a 6nz in 2000 or so kenworth with sleeper but i should have white smoke with a liner with a hole in it not pushing coolant out the cap
Basically the metal in the head gets overheated and expands to the point that the tension in the metal has to be released somewhere, typically it's a crack along a weak point.
My Motorhome C9 operates at 205 degrees F. It takes awhile to reach 205 F, but it remain constant regardless of ambient temperature. I can watch the digital display of engine and transmission temperature.and on one occasion misread the transmission temperature as the engine temperature. What's the best method to manage a elevated engine temperature ? My C9 has s belt driven water pump.
+Kenneth Bullins Most of those have the fan come on at 205, it's in kind of an bypass mode before that. nothing wrong with 205, does it ever get much hotter?
Hi again adept ape my truck was finally diagnosed after the breakdown if you remember I had a broken valve spring but luckily the valve never fell into the cylinder the head was sent to the machine shop, but I dont get it the shop just called after a week saying that I have a cracked head and I never had any antifreeze or oil going low or mixing issues I have the serial number of my head written down I will make sure that they haven't mixed up my head with someone elses. But what do you think would a cracked head cause any other issues than oil and water like compression?
+Aiyman Khan Not sure which engine you have, I'm going to guess a C15. It is possible you have a cracked head with no symptoms. The C15 would sometimes develop surface cracks on the head and if I remember right they are normally between the valves. If the crack doesn't extend into the valve seat area it is "okay" of course any crack is bad. Can they show you the crack and how bad it is?
In the beginning of the crack it will not connect to the coolant area yet. But you can be sure, it will start leaking soon. To prevent cracking always heat up the engine slowly while idling for about 20 minutes before driving.
+Briana Croft How high are you revving the engine to? An engine overspeed is when the ECM detects that the engine RPMs are going over what the factory setpoint for safe RPMs are. So if the engine is set to 2500 RPM, but someone downshifts to a very low gear down a hill and revs it up to 3000 RPM that code will become active.
I have a question for you I had oil in my air brake system replaced compressor and it still was with oil in it replace compressor again and now oil is coming out of my fan clutch line what can it be?
+Andy Milian A cracked head is usually only cracked that much or even less. Remember that that area is under extreme pressure during combustion and the cooling system is under pressure to, so any place that pressure it can go it's going to go.
+Diego Gonzalez okay, well disconnect the air compressor hot hose to make sure that isn't the cause, then it's pretty much certain you have a bad head gasket or head. Now newer trucks with EGR coolers can also cause cooling system problems, but on an older truck it sounds like you need to pull the head. The high blowby might be unrelated to the cooling system problem, if you have the head off you'll have a good view of the liners though.
+Adept Ape i have a 95 3406e 5ek. which line is the hot line exactly on the air compressor. my problem is like diegos minus the blowby. clean oil. no white smoke. i have injector codes so it rolls a little coal when you pull hard. normal oil consumption 5-7k per gallon on a 700k original 95 motor seems good to me. runs good. no grey matter under valve covers. recently did injector cups. your video was a huge help for that btw.
One more thing to add is their was no bubbles when i started it. Truck had 0 air pressure and coolant temp was 80* F when i started it. Bubbles didnt appear until several minutes in.
+Greg Eckhardt Thank you got the kind words. The Hot Hose line is usually steel braided and it's the hose that goes from the air compressor to the air dryer. All the other hoses on the compressor go back to the engine except the small governor line, but the hot hose is usually large like a 3/4" line or 1/2" line. Is your engine eating coolant or pushing it out of the overflow reservoir?
+Adept Ape it is blowing it out the cap when the level is too high, but it has a steady drip out of the overflow hose all the time and bubbles almost as much as the one in the video. I put a new 10lb cap on already as is standard for my 95 w900l.
That’s one bottle test and the other is a kit u can buy at your local parts store. Head test kit. Looks like a glass dildo lol Or at least that’s what I call it cause when it’s getting used, someone is getting fugged lol Push said dildo into coolant over flow tank. Fill dildo with the liquid that came with it. Turn engine on and bump up idle. If it’s a diesel your testing and it has combustion in the coolant system , the liquid will change color to green.... .....then your head gasket or head itself is bad or the sleeves fell and u have some sort of escape of combustion. Either way , it needs to be pulled apart and inspected. One trick I learned : This worked on a Detriot 14l 2007 Failed dildo test. I was in Texas and didn’t trust local shops. I removed the over flow tank (aka surge tank) cap drilled a hole in it and that let the combustion escape and not build pressure in the coolant system. The oil and coolant were not cross contaminating. I drove it like that (empty) from Longview Texas to Portland Oregon. Second time it happened (70k miles after some bs shop installed new gasket ) , I was again in Texas with a load heading north. I did the same trick. Drilled hole in over flow cap. Let combustion escape. Drove it loaded to Seattle , unloaded and then to Portland. I did have to add about a half gallon of coolant each morning. But once it warmed up, it spit that much out. Low water buzzard did not turn on the whole way. I pulled over every 100 miles and inspected it. And no, I didn’t go over 55mph the whole way. I put flashers on and rolled out ! Turned them off at weight stations and made sure it wasn’t pissing out as I went by :) Had I of been stoped , it would of been out of service ! I went to the dealer and had them do an inframe. After I got to posted and new head and new egr. Liner went down on a clyinder. Dealer said shop who did first head gasket should of seen that. And did a inframe then.

I can't physically help you with it, but I can explain it. First thing is go watch my IVA and VVA video and it really explains the system better so you can know what you are looking at. You have a bunch of not responding codes so that indicates that electrically the system is working, but mechanically it is not. Since you have low pressure codes and not responding codes, you need to figure out the low pressure code first. Pull your valve cover and look for damage to the IVA housings, the oil bridges, and the valve cover base. You might have to start it with a rag over the purge port so you don't get sprayed and see if you have a big oil leak somewhere in the overhead or for some reason you are not getting oil pressure to the valve cover base.

My duramax is blowing all the coolant out of the reservoir. No white smoke. No coolant in the oil.
another great video! nice to see someone who takes pride in their work. did you spend any time on equipment side or just prefer trucks?
I spent about 5 years on Diesel Generators and then went to Trucks. Never touched the equipment, luckily I'm a good engine Mechanic now, but all the hydraulics seems alien to me.
I don't have smoke from exhaust only pressure in cooling. After in frame rebuilt?
What if the oil is going into the coolant reservoir, but not over heating, no smoke, no knocking etc. ? so far oil in the coolant reservoir
YAHOWSHUA Ben YAHUDAH might be your oil cooler , I know this is old but thought I would put a answer up
Awesome vids keep them up!👌👌👏👏🤙🤙
Learned a lot from your videos.
No smoke from exhaust but definitely white blow by
Always good thank you for these videos
+Colby C. Thanks for watching them.
Good video like always
Ok bud will do thanks for the quick reply. great videos
Hope I helped let me know what you find.
This may seem like a dumb question but how do cylinder heads crack in the first place?
Cade Ivy over heating
I imagine like most things made of metal that hairline cracks can form with the rapid heating or cooling of the object.
suggest for solution.. make a double radiator from bypass with smaller radiator, measure time and temperature for thermostat to opening
What do it mean there is water coming from the overflow line but there is no white smoke. Just replaced precooler. Thanks in advance!
I have a c7 that is constantly pushing coolant out of the surge tank however it has never shown classical signs of head gasket failure at any temperature should I look at the air compressor or could it be injector cups
great video bub! keep them coming! as soon as you upload them I'm watching them. what's your first name?
+Brent Hoadley Great to here another happy subscriber. I try to just go by the Adept Ape title on here, I'm not sure if my company would like me to be making these videos or not, so I don't say which shop I'm in or my name. If they tell me it's alright then I'll just go by my name, for now though I'm incognito.

+Adept Ape i Was gonna ask you what you do whenever you find a bent push rod besides replacing lifters and camshaft and of course bent push roads I replaced pretty much every part even oil pump since the shavings went all around the engine I even found a bent exhaust valve just minutes before putting it all back together
That was on a c-9 engine by the way
I appreciate your advice

What about at 160 or 170 degrees I see very little bubbles?
Mine is doing the same, starting to bubble at 200 and it have a egr cooler, do you think it could be the egr cooler? Plenty coolant at the exhaust
Good afternoon Josh.
I have a Caterpillar C10 with this exact problem. I am fixing to replace the head sleeves bearings the whole 9. My question to you is; how do I prevent this from happening again?

Very good information.thank you.
Do u rebuild your own injection pumps
For what its worth 9 out of 10 times there is a reason for the head gasket failure, on the cyl with the problem it is imperative that the liner be pulled and the counterbore examined with a trained eye. There is a very good chance there is a crack in the counterbore. The procedure for that is done with a counterbore cutter, cut out the crack and shim it back and set liner protrusion, check the rest, if you dont, be right back with the same problem. I dont see a video on cooling system maint ? Folks need schooled on AF and how it turns acidic. Nice job on the vids

there is no bubbles at all when I parked with truck running, that only happens when running on the highway, how can I check if it's the air compressor? thanks for your help.
+Immer Pineda Well you'd be getting air bubbles from the air compressor if it was failing. Did you do the test at high idle and hot?
what if the white smoke disappears later on?. and my coolant is the same level.
What could it be when exhaust gases go into the coolant but compression is good and not mixing coolant and water.
Does it mean the head is cracked?
I’m having the same problem. I’m leaning towards cracked head, but when I got the head back from the machinist he didn’t say anything about it being cracked
Fuel injector cups/ is the housing
yes I did it hot like 190 but I only see some bubbles when I put some pressure on the radiator with my hand, it doesn't do any with the cap on...

I have a question. My 05 CAT C7 with 130k miles in my Fleetwood Discovery RV dropped a valve and demolished the block. It's a 330 H.P. KAL. hey ape great video. what if there's a lot of pressure in the overflow tank and high blow by. no other symptoms not even smoking?

What about bubbles only when engine is cold?
Air compressor
So i have been told i have cobustion in coolant my truck doesen smoke
U have any sugetions am i going to do a head gasket ,cracked head,or am i going to be doing a inframe on cummins
And my truck doesent overheat and it sounds normal
good clear video. excellent :-)
My temp does not goes over 180
Great Video.
Usually forty five seconds or less engine has to much gases leaking into
cooling system. Some engines the time may vary.
Ya I got lucky its working. Needs an Inframe for sure
@@un-limited7009 Does it have a Jake Brake?
@@johngoldsmith6629 I have it back together now. No engine brake. Running fine now thanks
@@un-limited7009 If you have a Jake brake on a 3306 you have to be careful. Push rods could have a large one and small one.
Could you do this same trick with gas engines? with the overflow bottle reservoir tube?
+Richard Cowtails You could certainly do this with a gas engine. Now the head doesn't always crack into a coolant rail though so it's possible you may have a crack and not push any bubbles, but if it is then this should catch it.

Did you fix?
Hi how to change the engine speed of the C15 type generator with thanks to you
the cylinder bore crack because the construction, size , valve diameter and the injector gap to close.. cant hold the pressure combust and the engine temperature

Nope
is there a tool part number for a compression test adapter for a c7 acert motor??
+Wendell Jones Some of Cats engines have them, but I checked the dealer tool catalog and there was nothing for a C7. There was a C7.1 compression tester, but that is a Kutch different engine. There may be one out there, but from what I could find there was nothing.
+Adept Ape thanks for the information, I guess the best way to check is a blow by test??
+Wendell Jones You can still check the cylinders, if you watch my video about doing cylinder cutout tests and checking for weak cylinders I test the cylinder with an air nozzle. Check the video out and see if that helps you.
What is the odds that i cracked a head on an old cat loader due to over heating it
Hey Adept Ape!
Which of the 70 pins of the ECM should be powered to bench-start th c7 engine on ground?
Thanks a bunch!
+Omar That depends on the serial number, typically pin 70 is for the switched 12v source and then the constant hots vary depending on what your exact serial number is.
Just from what I'm looking at... This engine has just been overhauled, and now there is a problem... Hope they didn't need the truck.

What's the root cause of a cracked cylinder head?
Basically the metal in the head gets overheated and expands to the point that the tension in the metal has to be released somewhere, typically it's a crack along a weak point.
My Motorhome C9 operates at 205 degrees F. It takes awhile to reach 205 F, but it remain constant regardless of ambient temperature. I can watch the digital display of engine and transmission temperature.and on one occasion misread the transmission temperature as the engine temperature. What's the best method to manage a elevated engine temperature ?
My C9 has s belt driven water pump.
+Kenneth Bullins Do you have a sideways radiator with the hydraulic fan or the belt driven fan? All C7 and C9 engines have belt driven water pumps.
Correct, side radiator with hydraulic fan.

Adept Ape hi I did see the head it has 3 cracks between the valves on 3 different cylinders he said it's no good
In the beginning of the crack it will not connect to the coolant area yet.
But you can be sure, it will start leaking soon.
To prevent cracking always heat up the engine slowly while idling for about 20 minutes before driving.
I have a 2003 Freightliner with CAT c7 it is giving me a code 35 it says engine over speed warning. What does that mean and how can I fix it?
+Briana Croft How high are you revving the engine to? An engine overspeed is when the ECM detects that the engine RPMs are going over what the factory setpoint for safe RPMs are. So if the engine is set to 2500 RPM, but someone downshifts to a very low gear down a hill and revs it up to 3000 RPM that code will become active.
+Adept Ape to about 2000 rpms. What can I do to fix it

how could a crack so small generate that much smoke?
+Andy Milian A cracked head is usually only cracked that much or even less. Remember that that area is under extreme pressure during combustion and the cooling system is under pressure to, so any place that pressure it can go it's going to go.
Ok bud thanks
BTW, it is 500hp with about a 50hp tune and DPF delete. 105,000 miles. Thanks

You Are A Bad Ass!!
sometimes it's the water pump
yep pushing lots of bubbles into bottle.
Looks like a glass dildo lol
Or at least that’s what I call it cause when it’s getting used, someone is getting fugged lol
Push said dildo into coolant over flow tank.
One trick I learned :
This worked on a Detriot 14l 2007
Failed dildo test.
Turned them off at weight stations and made sure it wasn’t pissing out as I went by :)
Had I of been stoped , it would of been out of service !
I went to the dealer and had them do an inframe. After I got to posted and new head and new egr.
Liner went down on a clyinder.
Dealer said shop who did first head gasket should of seen that.
And did a inframe then.

thats that i have when the dealer put in the computer can you help me with this ?
I can't physically help you with it, but I can explain it. First thing is go watch my IVA and VVA video and it really explains the system better so you can know what you are looking at. You have a bunch of not responding codes so that indicates that electrically the system is working, but mechanically it is not. Since you have low pressure codes and not responding codes, you need to figure out the low pressure code first. Pull your valve cover and look for damage to the IVA housings, the oil bridges, and the valve cover base. You might have to start it with a rag over the purge port so you don't get sprayed and see if you have a big oil leak somewhere in the overhead or for some reason you are not getting oil pressure to the valve cover base.
i did take the valve cover off and theres no leaks but how or where can i check for my self if a avi is not working sorry bro but im new with this
