Uhhh....because Japan was decimated by the war and as I was saying, had to rebuild? That's a pic of Tokyo following the infamous bombing of the city and it makes sense to show Tokyo because the Shinkansen was first conceived with the aim of connecting Tokyo to the country beyond. It couldn't be a more relevant picture. However, I am sorry if you're sensitive to the imagery.
