I'd like to use this live ON STAGE to have all of my synths and drum machines to go into, as well as effect sends and returns... What I would like to know, is if I could easily save mix "scenes" for each of the songs im going to play live, and have these mix "scenes" (or whatever you would call it) recalled via Midi Program change from my master sequencer. That would fully automate my live set and I could really fine tune my live sound.
Unfortunately (and I understand why) Behringer decided to leave out 2 key features on their XR12 and XR16 1) Multi-Channel recording 2) the Ultranet connectors for individual monitoring system
If there was a firmware update or something that allows the same usb capability as the XR18, I would buy one for a microrig, but that's a deal breaker for me. Love my XR18 tho. Must have the usb inputs like the XR18.
mine sounds fine particularly for my small acoustic group. I don't like the effects that well, but I don't need them. Just a little verb. If you are expecting high quality processing to make a bigger band sound awesome, forget it. Protools this is not. What do you expect for this price? It is nice to control your own monitor mix without trying to explain it to a sound man and the main mix as well from the front. At our level, we don't make the $ for a sound man.
Hi, Is it possible to send the audio to the hardware external effects (for example guitar effects, vocal processors) and then return signal back to the mixer ?
Hey, Kamil. Thank you for reaching out to us about the X AIR mixers. Yes, you can run external gear on them. You use and aux send to a selected output and patch that into the external gear. Then take the output of the external gear and go back into an unused input. It will then give you a mixable return on the mixer. Hope that solves your issue. If there is anything else we can help with, feel free to reach out. Grant Embury, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1647, Grant_Embury@Sweetwater.com
Hey Phil, You said the USB will let me record a mix at 44.1KHz. The manual says "Supported audio file format: WAV,16-bit, 44.1or 48.0kHz - depending on mixer sample rate", using max 2 GB files on a FAT32 formatted drive. Any idea if a future release will support a) 24- or 32-bit? Bigger files? Different file systems? higher sampling rate? If so, which platform of XAir would I need?
How do you SIMPLY send the XR18's FX and EQ to a DAW along WITH the dry signal for each track? Our XR18's mix sounds perfect LIVE, and that's exactly what I want the computer to record! I DON'T want to add FX and EX to the tracks in the DAW later!

I will do some digging, but can the xr 12 do sidechain compression/gates? I want to install a house system in a bowling alley, but i want to use side chains for announcements and to kill the house music if someone plays the jukebox. It know the 16 and 18 can do it, but i only need the 4 outputs of the 12 and 6 or 8 in total and i dont want to side chain with analog gates.
What about wifi dropout onstage? I know that an external router is suggested but,why isn’t the onboard strong enough to not have dropoff in the middle of a gig? Do you know how embarrassing it is to have something suddenly feedback and your iPad is froze up because you’ve been kicked off the onboard wifi?
Hello, Patrick! Jose from Sweetwater, here. Great question! The X Air control software is only available on tablet devices, but you are able to use the Ethernet port to hard wire a tablet for control. The PC software is only for updating the firmware of the mixer. I'd love to speak with you more on the details, so feel free to give me a shout at my contact information below. Thanks for the interest! Jose Gonzalez, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1786, jose_gonzalez@sweetwater.com
@Behringer Will the X32 and X18 talk to each other? In other words, will the X32, connected via network cable send all of the channels to the X12 so that it can be used as a dedicated Monitor mixer, to do all the things this video lays out? I'm not a sound guy, but I'm trying to figure out a budget for next year, to find the best way to set up in-ear monitoring for our church worship band. My thinking was to use a dedicated wifi mixer like this, and set each band member up with a tablet where they can manipulate their IEM, rather than having a device such as the PowerPlay for each band member. This would save us some serious $$ if our sound guys can help us rig up a good IEM system using only an X12 and tablets for each band member, which we already have or can purchase cheaply.
Can you use the USB port to plug into MacBook Pro to record on Garageband? I tried it but my MacBook Pro doesn't seem to see the XR12 as a sound input device. HELP PLEASE
Hello, JP! Jose from Sweetwater, here. Great question! On the XR12, the USB port would be used to record to a USB flash drive. Sadly, they only offer the multi-track recording to a DAW on the XR18 and X32 mixers. I'd love to speak with you more on the details, so feel free to give me a shout at my contact information below. Hello! Jose from Sweetwater, here. Great question! The XR12 is a great unit for running live sound, but I don't believe it is able to use 3rd party VST plug-ins. can I mix with 2 (various) x-air mixers via Ethernet? Picture a front-of-house with mics and synths, and one in a balcony to mic a choir with 4 XLR mics. Can this all be mixed down to one stream, or do I need to get a final mix on each X-air then master them later (the 4 channels from 2 stereo mixes, say)? If I can, is there a limit to the number of x-air I can use to mix down to a single record stream (or line-out for broadcast)?
You can present the output of one mixer as an analog set of inputs to the other, but not in any digital way, at least not on these cheap series. X(R)18 has digital out (called ultranet), but even that you cannot feed into any of their other mixers that I know, not even X32. I'm not sure though why you would want to use two mixers. If there are too few inputs, better get an X18 or XR18 then.
