Chicago is my husband, and I dream city. We have been seriously saving and getting ready to sell our house in Nebraska. What would be your suggested lead time for searching for a condo in Chicago?
I grew up in Chicago and am now in a far suburb but still keep a condo near downtown. If I were moving from somewhare else and didn't know the city well I would rent a place and spend time exploring the various neighborhoods to determine what suits my taste, needs, and budget. Don't rush into buying and later regret an impulse purchase.
But what about the crime?😂😂 Seriously, if you’re making the move you’ll like it. Chicago is a big and expensive city, but if you haven’t already, I’d suggest visiting in the summer and winter. I recently purchased a condo here. Nothing special, but it will fit my needs for a few years. There are about 70 neighborhoods in Chicago. You’ll want to avoid about 10 to 12 of them. There are some nice condos well out of my budget. If you have a price range in mind and your income and house sale can support it, why wait?
