I suspect that John was so dismissive of the song due to the lyrical content, which he probably felt wasn’t up there with his best work. But I think it’s a real shame, because the rest of the band contributed so much to the overall recording, especially George & Paul with the duel lead guitar parts.
I loved this song from the first time I heard it in 1966 when I was just 11 on "Yesterday and Today". Over the decades, it remains one of my favorite "go to" Beatles songs.
Your love of labor output is sublime! Your inclination to share your methodical musical examination of mostly Beatle melodies is wonderful! Thank you for the music! 🌴
He puts so much work into these learning each parts, recording, editing out any little mess ups, and recording the sound alike and syncing the audio to the video plus much more I’m sure. Thanks!
Fifty~eight years ago...now...58 years, and we who were there from the start remember it as if it were yesterday. It made such a STRONG impression on us. WHY? They're saying: `You might have everything, BUT...' ( you don't get me ).
Thanks for this, Mike, as wonderful as all your other Beatles lessons. As well as being brilliant instructional material it really shows how brilliant The Beatles were. To have got that harmony guitar part going when you couldn’t just do endless takes and comp a best track must have been awesome to watch in the studio. That bit where McCartney plays F natural is magical to my ears. Thanks
Masterful re-construction of one of my very favourite Beatles songs from my favourite Beatles album, Revolver! I do so enjoy your videos and appreciate the hard work that must go into them. Thank you.
This is amazing ! Ever since I first heard this song in 1966, I thought George wrote it and played the lead guitar parts on one guitar using double stops. I could never figure out how he did it. It never ocurred to me that John wrote it and the lead guitar part was a duet. Now I see how they did it….. Mike - your passion for sharing ‘how to’ videos for Beatles songs is much appreciated by me !!!
as a kid I always tried to play both lead lines at the same time thinking it was done that way.. that was in the 80s and I never got over how hard it was.. now I see this :)
Fantastic! I don't care what John thought of it, it's one of my favorite Beatles songs. Thanks for showing us the complexity of the arrangement. Now I understand why so few Beatles cover bands play it.
I've always absolutely loved the guitar parts in this song, definitely one of my favourites from Revolver and one of my personal favourite guitar harmonies of all time. So much fun to play, also for the longest time I thought that Paul's part was what Harrison was playing but it still sounds awesome regardless. Absolutely loved the lesson as always Mike, still killing it
I heard Revolver for the first time in the late 80s and immediately decided that this was their best album, not least because of this beautiful and complex song. Thank you for this feeling again.
One of my favourites. I first played this live aged about 16 at a Junior Hunt Ball, which I believe was 1967, probably very badly. I played half the lead on 2 strings and the rest as single notes as we could only have one lead guitarist. I had a 15W valve amp that my older brother made for me in a big cabinet that I made, with a 12" Fane speaker which I've still got. I've no idea what guitar I used but it would have been very cheap. Happy days!! That's another great video and lesson on how to play it properly. Maybe I'll try again, thank you.
Your guitar playing is super great, we all know that. But your vocals also amaze me too. So clear and high. You do McCartney's part flawlessly. Now I wish I went out to see Merry Christmas more often. Great job.
Such a great short song by the Beatles! I think Revolver and Rubber Soul are some of their best albums! Thanks for laying it all out MIke, I have a lot of practice to do!
It was fun learning from your other video about how to play 2 parts at once, but I loved learning/confirming how to play all the separate parts from this one. So much fun, and I SO enjoy your soundalike videos!
Thanks Mike, I really enjoyed your breakdown of And Your Bird Can Sing. The song captivated me the first time I heard it back in the 1960s. I can't think of another Beatles song that has a similar sound.
Nice job as always! I've always liked that song. If you ever run out of Beatles songs and want to do a Wings song, Junior's Farm would be a good one with the 2 harmonized guitar parts.
I'm 72 and learned how to play via The Beatles. I went from rhythm guitar to bass when our bassist moved away in 1965, ( I pretty much showed him the bass lines). I'm new to your channel but I haven't heard you elaborate on Paul's creative bass lines.
Caught your flippin' the image for Pauls lefty look, cool ! As a kid I was tryin' to learn this thinkin' it's double stop riffs on a single guitar & thought this is to tough ! Always a great job Mike ...
@boppin - I have already done a video on how to play both parts simultaneously - tho' it not possible to do it perfectly (like the record) on one guitar. It's a reasonable facsimile. Here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/1hXUd6P_ThI/v-deo.html
I still get shivers when the last verse comes in with that high harmony. Such a great song. While John said it's a throwaway which always makes me laugh because I would possibly cut my nuts off to be able to write a song like that lol.
Well done, as usual, Mike P. I never get tired of this song. I love it since it first came out on The Beatles Yesterday and Today album. Is your Epiphone Casino a modern one made overseas, the new American made model or an original Epiphone? It sounds great.
@Tommy - thanks for the kudos. My Epi is the $400 Chinese made one. I 'Lennon-ized' with a few washers bought at Home Depot. 90% of tone comes from ones hands so NEVER buy an overpriced guitar.
Could you post the bass tab too? Please? By the way, I LOVE how you have the bass booming in your full recording! :o) I've always thought that a lot of songs people love, that people are influenced, maybe without their even realizing it, by how great the bass parts are. AYBCS is a case in point. Another is Something. (I actually think the bass is the best part of Something.)
I was always crazy about the 2 lead guitars on this song. Originally I thought it was one guitar and thought, Man how do they do that that!? How is it possible? Plus, the tune itself is completely original. All the parts meld into a spectacular whole. There is nothing like this song anywhere. And -- by the way-- what the heck is this song about anyway??
George bought an Gibson ES-345 in 1965. It's seen in many studio photos. So perhaps that guitar. Those could've had Patent Number (Pat No) pickups - which sound VERY like PAF's when played clean. But there are some 1965's WITH PAF's. I have a1965 Gibson ES175 that has them...
Its insane how John dubbed this song “another one of my throwaways” Its literally one of the best songs of the sixties
I suspect that John was so dismissive of the song due to the lyrical content, which he probably felt wasn’t up there with his best work. But I think it’s a real shame, because the rest of the band contributed so much to the overall recording, especially George & Paul with the duel lead guitar parts.
@@shaunmcgee4204 That's the problem with John. He was so selfish at times he only looked at what HE contributed to his own songs!!
I loved this song from the first time I heard it in 1966 when I was just 11 on "Yesterday and Today". Over the decades, it remains one of my favorite "go to" Beatles songs.
Thank you so much for breaking this song down. I’ve been fixated with this tune for along time!
My favorite Beatles song. Vastly underrated.
Great tutorial, Mike. Love your back stories of all the songs.
Great vids, for all us guitar playing Beatle fans.
Glad you like them!
Another fantastic lesson of a great Beatles tune Mike! Thanks once again for keeping their music alive and well! Hope that all is well in France! 👍👍
Hope that all is well in France! ,, not really, some kind of disturbing things but we will survive as usual
Rock on! and yeah - summertime on the French Riviera - OoLaLa!!
Your deep dives into the songs are beyond amazing 👏
Thanks Mike, just got the tabs for this one. Please consider teaching Yer Blues or Helter Skelter as I’d love to see those!
Your love of labor output is sublime! Your inclination to share your methodical musical examination of mostly Beatle melodies is wonderful! Thank you for the music! 🌴

Super playing there!! 😁
We are also currently playing this great song in our Beatles tribute band! 😁
Fantastic guitar set up, both lead and rhythm!!
Fifty~eight years ago...now...58 years, and we who were there from the start remember it as if it were yesterday. It made such a STRONG impression on us. WHY? They're saying: `You might have everything, BUT...' ( you don't get me ).
Mike always knocks it out of The Park!!!!!
Nicely done, Mike. One of my favorite Beatles masterpieces. All the parts are sheer genius...including the lyrics!
The bridge is very special . A haunting melody
Great job always . Thanx

A very good tutorial of one of my favourite Beatles songs. It has a unique sound, and you analyzed it very well. Thank you, and thanks, Beatles!
You're very welcome!
Masterful re-construction of one of my very favourite Beatles songs from my favourite Beatles album, Revolver! I do so enjoy your videos and appreciate the hard work that must go into them. Thank you.
@COBBETT - Very kind of you to say - Thanks!!
I see a Mike P video on a Beatles song: I click like , I watch and I enjoy! 😊❤🎉😊
Was that a reverse image on the Bass. I can "air-guitar" lefty. Mike is always smooth.
I do the same thing! 😂
This is amazing ! Ever since I first heard this song in 1966, I thought George wrote it and played the lead guitar parts on one guitar using double stops. I could never figure out how he did it. I love how you tell the story of the song too!! your lessons are like documentaries also.
youre a legend!!! i was literally thinking about looking up this song from you yesterday. had no idea it had yet to be made yet!
as a kid I always tried to play both lead lines at the same time thinking it was done that way.. that was in the 80s and I never got over how hard it was.. now I see this :)
Great player, great teacher . Love the back stories !!!!! Thanks, Mike !!!
Fantastic! I don't care what John thought of it, it's one of my favorite Beatles songs. Thanks for showing us the complexity of the arrangement. Now I understand why so few Beatles cover bands play it.
The acoustic guitar tone is so musical. An amazing instrument.
I've always enjoyed this Beatle song. Thanks for making the video
You are the best in the world to teach Beatles and thank you are very much great
I said the best in the world and it is true

Thanks Mike. One of my Fav Beatles tunes!💥🎼🎸
Thank you Mike. Makes me appreciate their work so much more.
My favorite off Revolver. Pure John! I have a soft spot for his chromatic lines (this song, Cry Baby Cry, etc.).
Strawberry Fields Forever uses a chromatic line in the start of the Verses, E, Emaj7 to E7 just descending the E by half steps.
Thanks Mike it’s a great way that you have put this song and the history together ! Well done ! 10 out of 10
Such a great short song by the Beatles! I think Revolver and Rubber Soul are some of their best albums! Thanks for laying it all out MIke, I have a lot of practice to do!
Always one of my favs! Even though John thought it a throw away!

Hey Mike! Can you make a video about
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" guitar lesson?
I was waiting for so long for this video! Thank you so much!!!
You're so welcome!
Oh, I enjoyed that Mike, that was fabulous! I always loved this song. Cheers!
Эта вещь выдергивает из меня Душу! Спасибо за урок, Майк!
Great breakdown again Mike. Amazing leads from George and Paul. And you’re playing too. 🙋♂️👏👏👏🇬🇧
Excellent excellent excellent! Thank you so much Mike. You make learning Beatles guitar parts easy. Great video!
Brilliant Mike…..a great track and you did a fantastic job as always!
Wow. Thanks for doing my favorite guitar breaks of the Beatles. Great explanation!
My pleasure!
Revolver - coming home from store ( 11 th grade ) with this in package.... ahhh. My fave Beatle disc.
I always loved that song!
Nice job as always! I've always liked that song. If you ever run out of Beatles songs and want to do a Wings song, Junior's Farm would be a good one with the 2 harmonized guitar parts.
Well done Mike, love your Beatles breakdowns. 👏👏👏
Great job Mr Sixth Beatle! Always love the finished product and the story about the song ! 🤞❤️ from Cleveland, Ohio
Thank you Mike I've always wanted to learn this song
Mike is so good at these. Bookmarking to come back. I once knew the bass but been playing more guitar lately.
Most excellent Mike!
Thanks Mike!

Again, amazing job Mike! 👍🏻👍🏻
another brilliant lesson and another fave Beatles song of mine from Revolver.....;-) Thank you for another brilliant analysis.........;-)
How come Mike 'only' has 125k subs? Spread the word, Mike fans!
@marksimpson - Thanks - my thoughts exactly. Please spread the word!
You’re the BEST, Mike!
Thanks Mike, great job as usual!
very good job mike!!!
Haaaa i was just studying the older video on this song the other day. Love you, mikey.
Thank you very much, Mike!
Very thorough job on this. We’ll done!
Thank you so much for your accuracy!
That was another Beatles song that only you can do justice. And that left handed guitar playing was amazing. Pretty tricky.
One of My favs!! MARVELLOUS!!!!!

Sounds fantastic! I've always had trouble playing this one. Your video should help me alot!🤞🤞🎸
WOW! wasn’t expecting a lesson so soon, and a great one at that???? you’re the man Mike! great job
also when a day in the life lesson??
It's incredible that the harmony guitar parts were carefully worked out and not easy - not something they really ever did again quite like this.
Amazing!
Thanks Mike. This was fun to learn.
My fav Beatles song ! 🙂
Mike, I think you must be the 6th Beatle! You Rock, Bro!
Thanks Mike. I'll grab (purchase) the tabs off your site right now. Good stuff :-)
@JohnCarter20 - Thanks VERY much for your support!!
Not a bad song......for a throw-away. Great job Mike.
Superb!
Thanks a lot!
It is amazing to think they went from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to this song in less than 1 1/2 years.
No, it was about three.
The ending of your video was awesome thx.
That guitar harmony during the bridge is unique and ingenious for its time
Great lesson.
Like the colour of your hair! It's really lovely!
My favourite Beatles song.
Great lesson as always… The first part of the bridge sounds like the opening verse chords of "Something"
Thanks a lot Mike for this lesson😮
Well done, as usual, Mike P. I never get tired of this song. I love it since it first came out on The Beatles Yesterday and Today album.

Sounds like a Bach Melody influence.
