  • Dame Emma Kirkby came to the University of Huddersfield to perform at its inaugural HIP Happening, a mini-festival that explored a variety of historically-informed approaches to the performance of early music. Her concert, entitled 'English Lute Songs from the Golden Age', included students in the performance.
In this video, Dame Emma talks to Professor John Bryan about her singing, her interpretation, the songs of John Dowland and what the future holds.

Fascinating! I personally picked up a lot of diction ideas from Emma ever since first listening to her in the 80s. Thank goodness for the early music movement. It is nice to understand the words being sung!

Qué hermosa persona! Me encanta su naturalidad, la manera en que acepta el paso del tiempo en ella.

I think of Dowland as music to grow into! Not out of! Love Dame Emma! Saw her in Utrecht NL and in Bethlehem PA, USA.
