@@davewalkeden6932 Dave, perhaps you are right, because I have never heard anyone deny John Deacon's talents as a very skilled musician, bassist and songwriter. Underappreciated? Yes! I'm a long-time Queen fan who understands his contributions were an integral part of Queen's success! Clearly, he was the most quiet and reticent of the four, comparing to the very flamboyant personalities of the others. He did not want to bask in the limelight, yet he added a very powerful dynamic to the band's sound. He skillfully transitioned through the band's myriad of different styles and genres, all while adding, sometimes subtly, a very distinctive element to Queen's unique sound. And his songwriting contributions are undeniable! Mr. Deacon has obviously chosen to enjoy a well-deserved retirement with his family, all while staying out of the public eye. I am grateful for all he has given me and music fans throughout the world! I wish him well. 🙂
@Dat tizio I knew he had trouble with it when recording, but not even Doin' Alright The bass on that track has a very Rick sound.. But youre right, im pretty sure all of his early work was done on a p-bass
This IS the original bass line recorded by John Deacon. As stated elsewhere, the run down was overdubbed later. Also, yes if you wanted to be pedantic, it is slightly out of tune but this is how it was done in the '70's - no help from digital equipment. Most isolated tracks sound rough until mixed and blended with the other tracks. Then the blemishes are harder to discern. Top bass player.
If you listen to this it sounds identical to other isolated versions of this on the internet, except for the rundown not being there. That's because it was on a separate track.
As a person when listening to the finished track, they wouldn't notice, and nobody else doesn't, not even me until we listen to the bass track alone. When bass-strings are getting colder when being un-used, there might be a possibility for it to automatically be de-tuned. Maybe Deacy left his bass for too long between the moment he tuned and recorded.
Or the intonation just wasn't even across the whole fretboard. Basses are frequently out of tune with themselves. It's only now that we feel everything has to be perfect.
I used this track when I learned by ear and it wasn't really that out of tune as you say. It doesn't sound like the original because all the other instrument has been removed. The run-down is not here because it's an overdub, and I found a similar track which contain the overdubbed run-down as well over the basic line. And these tracks are ripped of from Rock Band 3 (music game) where they use the original and it's original key. Search for the other track if it's avaiable in your country.
He didn't forget to tune. His instrument either went out of tune while playing, or it was not in tune with itself. Some of the notes are dead on, and some are out of tune. That's common on a bass guitar if it hasn't been set up recently. Also, when you play with flatwound strings it exaggerates any intonation problems.
It appears it is Deacon. There were many things I found wrong with this: bad tuning, the run not being there, but mainly the sloppy tecnhique. Apparently that was just his style. I apologise!
Well, I've later discovered that this has to be an overdub + if you search after another "Killer Queen" bass track, you will find one with the run-down as well.
The whole time I kept thinking "how can he not hear that it's out of tune?" Then as soon as the song ends he starts tuning. Guess he heard, but nobody cared.
Backing track was done live with piano and drums. Would've been the best take and the no one noticed the notes out. Did you until you heard the raw track? This is the beauty of unmanipulated music played live.
This bassist is finally garnering the respect he's always deserved. In fact, this band actually released a song called "John Deacon"! ua-cam.com/video/sUf1aatVoy4/v-deo.html
No, I definitely don't think it's the original, because 1) It's out of tune, 2) The run at 1:03 is not there. Plus it kinda doesn't sound like the original.
I love how when you listen closely you can faintly hear everyone else

Backing track was recorded live with piano and drums. Queen always did this until the 80s.
Totally underrated bass player.
He wrote some of their best songs too.
Another One Bites The Dust, I Want To Break Free. This man is a genius. By the way, how is your life after that 11 years? :)

And here was me thinking John's prefered bass was a Fender Jazz and all along he was playing a rubber band on a broomstick!
youandwhosearmy? Actually I think most would say John's preferred bass was a Fender Precision.
He used a fender precision sometimes, most of the time it would be a stingray
And he used a fender jazz bass for this track
Yeah, sorry about that past me didn't have a clue what he was talking about but isn't he using a Rickenbacker 4001 on this track?
@Dat tizio I knew he had trouble with it when recording, but not even Doin' Alright

There were strobe tuners in the 70's btw. Truth is, stuff goes out of tune after being in the studio playing all day.

It is original, it's just Deacon who forgot to tune it properly.

WHY I AM WATCHING THIS: I AM A PIANIST?!

to learn to play along
Same
Because it is interesting.
Sweet! Gotta love John, good job!
So much more to this bass line wow
Well it worked fine with me when I learned the song by ear from this track, and my bass was tuned with the tuner, so therefore I call it slightly.
this is the authentic. the run at 1:03 is recorded apart from deacon’s bass track.
Remember at that time they HAD TO tune by ear, not like today plugging in a guitar/bass-tuner.
No they didn't HAVE to tune by ear back then. They did have tuners lmao
