- Gave it as much as I could here. I forget how difficult it is to actually speak Lovecraft's prose out loud. It says something when "Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn" is easier to say than a lot of the actual paragraphs.
The uncensored version of this audiobook is available on my Patreon. I decided that certain dated and offensive terms weren't really something I wanted to put out on UA-cam. I like how he highlighted the racism, Lovecraft was genuinely deranged
That's what HP was known for. A very particular amount of deranged. That being extremely.
Here's your vocab:

Bas-relief - A sculpture emerging from a flat background. It's like a flat panel with detailed pieces raising out of it.
Cyclopean - a particular type of construction in which massive stones were roughly fitted together to form structures. It also means something of a large size.
Outré - french word meaning bizarre
Rejoinder - a reply
Bacchanal - a wild and debauched celebration
Fetish - an object of worship/significance
Tenebrous - Dark
Catechism - a close questioning
Cutting Bureau - Press monitoring service, a business that searches publications for particular information.
Imperiously: Urgently

I ain’t gonna watch this, did he include the racism?
Depends what you mean by racism. I did not include the dated terms for ethnic groups, but the story does have some racist undertones, which is unavoidable in many of Lovecraft's works.
@@sorbetcafe yeah it’s a shame
This sounds like racism
This story does contain some insulting depictions of different cultures and ethnicities, and I did decide to edit out a few of the dated terms for different groups.
The story can't really be unlinked from some racist undertones, and that's the case in many of Lovecraft's works. The strange/degenerate cults that he writes are practiced by strange/degenerate people, and to Lovecraft those people were foreigners of "uncivilized" cultures.
Ultimately, the choice is either to not read Lovecraft's works, or to read them with an acknowledgement of the undertones.
@@sorbetcafe good take
