    I love thrifting but my absolute best find was during my town's spring cleaning days when people can throw out large items or larger quantity of items that wouldn't normally be picked up. I love driving around on those days to see what I can find. It's great for garden items (I will never buy a terracotta pot or tomato cage ever again) but sometimes you can also find some amazing treasures. Last year's haul was how I got started with watercolors because I found 50+ tubes of DaVinci, Daniel Smith, Winsor and Newton, a few Holbein and a couple of Sennelier watercolor paints. So I highly recommend looking around and seeing if yur town or any nearby towns do something similar and go dumpster diving because you never know what someone may be throwing away.

      What is this magic!?!?!?! lol. I haven't heard of a towns spring cleaning where you can go around, this is amazing and I'm totally going to look into my town and see if it does it. And holy moly that is a fantastic find....all those watercolors!! Probably got a great deal on them too I bet. Wow! Thank you so much for sharing all of this. I love it! 😍

    I make my best finds by patiently digging through the craft and office supplies. I once found a folding canvas paintbrush holder filled with high end paintbrushes, unused; wtih the original labels - close to $100 worth of brushes, for $2! I've also snagged specialty art paper and recently a bonded leather journal from Italy. The trick with these sections is to slow down, handle things, and - if feasible - sit down on the floor to root around in the lower shelves that most people don't bother with. You have to be patient and do a lot of visits that don't yield much, but if you're consistent, you eventually score some really nice items for 80-90% off.

      That is such a great find! Wowie!! I've had some great finds, but nothing worth that much. lol. And I agree 100% - you have to be patient with finding deals, both with digging and looking carefully and being patient in going multiple times until you find something! I just moved this week and my new place is just minutes from a thrift store - I'm very excited about that!

      Agreed! I’ve been to some thrift stores in Europe but didn’t have the best of luck (besides clothes), but maybe this just shows how much stuff Americans have 😝🤣

    I thrifted a clear cookie jar that I use to store my watercolor tubes and a squared glass container that houses my Neocolors. At antique stores, I've found some old kids art supply tins for crayons and watercolors that are so cute for a decorative collection. And vintage bird field guides are my weakness! I have been on the hunt for white ceramic plates but haven't snagged any yet.

      I love a good art tin for decoration/holding supplies too! They are so fun to find. I got a green watercolor tin and it has an owl on it - it’s so cute!! Also yes, bird field guide and wildflower books are my weakness 😝

    ❤🙋🏼‍♀️Hello Jaclyn! I love going to thrift stores to hunt for treasures I can use in my studio and home. It’s amazing what you can find. The ceramic devil egg trays make awesome palettes. Thank you for sharing and it’s so nice to find a like minded artist🥰! Fran

      Thrifting is so fun and rewarding when you find the perfect treasure for your home! Oohh yes, I’ve seen an artist use one of those ceramic egg holders as a palette too. Good tip!!

      I'm glad I could help! 😀 I love a good dish/glassware piece (especially mugs/jars). I found a mini mug to hold my smaller colored pencils recently and it brings me such joy 🤩

    Gosh, I did watch the tour. It was one of my favorites. I am getting so forgetful. Lol I like thrifting too, just don't get to go very often.

    This was a fun one! I am always on the lookout for cool old stuff for my studio. As we discussed in the comment section of your last video, I love a good estate sale. I check the newspapers and Facebook marketplace (I follow a local guy on there who does estate sales). Especially if I know an architect or artist estate is going up for sale. I found a cool sale recently- a large architectural firm was moving to a new location and selling drafting tables, desks, easels,a huge printer, flat file storage and chairs …… so many wonderful things but it was all too big for my small studio. So fun to go to and see all the old draft tables… totally wish I’d bought one while I had the chance but I’m looking , keeping my eye out for another one.
    Is there anything quite as fun as getting the perfect basket or box to hold supplies for cheap?!!!!

      @jaclynbaerart  Рік тому +1

      This is SUCH a great tip! Wow! I hadn't thought about looking for big firms moving and needing to get rid of their drafting tables, etc. What an amazing time you must of had just walking through it all. When I get to the point of buying a home I'll have to keep this tip in mind to get tables/desks for my future studio. Thank you so much for sharing this Hannah! Also, you are my type of person who gets excited about a perfect basket or box to hold art supplies! Eek! ❤️

    Wow! There are some amazing thrift stores in the US. I live in Ireland and although we do have a lot of thrift shops they are very small and don't hold a lot of great stuff. I usually go straight to the book section but I never find any nature books which is my first port of call every time 😄
    I did find a nice charity shop recently that had clothing categorised by colour pallet and I really liked that.
    Enjoy the rest of your Sunday Jaclyn 🙂

      Hey Sarah! There are some amazing thrift stores in the US, yes! I've thrifted in Europe before and most were slim pickings. 😆 But in the bigger cities of some countries I visited, I found more items (especially clothing). I like that you go straight to the book section, I was the same way up in the PNW since their books were categorized. I love finding books 📚 Aww, I'm so glad you found a charity shop with the clothes being categorized by color - it's such a delight to see all the clothes like that (and easier to find the colors you want)!

      @@jaclynbaerart I'm a big bookworm and love second hand older nature books, especially the nature diary style books full of artwork. I was recently in Devon in the UK with my husband and we happened to stumble across this little shed which was brimming with books. It was essentially a little free library but a big one, haha. The books were categorised and I found a beautiful vintage book full of floral illustrations of the UK, Ireland and Europe area. It definitely came home with me ☺
