Yeah there’s an OTS tune for j-pipes! It falls under the stage 2 category under all the OTS maps. Exhausts don’t really require tuning for the car, and won’t really effect the reliability of it. But for the time being the stage 2 OTS tune will be able to last you until you get a pro tune to really gain the benefits from the mods
Hey bro curious did you get pro tuned for this or Cobb OTS map? Also where and who tuned your car? I’m also in Cali and I want to go the DP route but you know..emissions and smog :/
Yo where did you get the jpipe? I cant find a retailer that will ship to cali. Also, do you have any clips of the jpipe with a stock cat/axleback ? You only showed it with the remark and r400
Thanks for the video. I got a prodrive axle back on my 02 wrx. It’s kind of too quiet for me. I want a more deeper rumble. Do you think installing a catted downpipe will increase the exhaust tone and make it deeper/ slightly louder? Or or will dp just make the me hear the turbo whistle more? Not sure if I should go DP route or just change the catback. Thanks
if you pair a downpipe with an axle back, its INSANELY loud. definitely one of the loudest setups you can run on a wrx in my opinion. But as for the downpipe being catted or uncatted, there's not really much of a difference - there's a slight change in tone, but it's not all that much (catted would have a very very slightly cleaner tone)
Do I need an intake to go “stage 2” or can I just get a j-pipe and get tuned for that. Right now only mods are nameless muffler delete and Cobb accessport stage 1 map.
you can do whatever if you're getting protuned. if you're going with the cobb maps, then you're gonna have to check which maps you can do with the mods
Hey fellow Irvine resident lol, I've got a 2021 WRX CVT and I'm considering getting a J pipe for the power upgrades (although CVT torque is limited to 300 wtq). Antspec's tuner left recently, and I'm wondering if you have any other suggestions for tuners in the area?
thanks for checking out the video! but yeah from time to time I do end up scraping it. I mainly end up scraping it when i'm going over large speedbumps, other than that i clears pretty much everthing
yeah definitely agree with @unrulybill . if you're referring to a complete straight pipe (turbo to exhaust), you'll definitely need a tune. if you're going from the cat and back, you'll be fine. if you do any power related mods on these cars you're going to need a tune, every little mod regarding power is sensitive to the car so you need to tune for that.
Yo I got a catted j pipe on my wrx and muffler delete and I have like weird cabin pressure that kills my ears have you experienced that know anything about it
Hey mate I got 2015 wrx CVT tho. Installed R400 yes it is quite. Will I get a deeper tone if I remove the resonator in midpipe and the cat from the stock Jpipe?
so with the stock exhaust and a aftermarket jpipe, it’ll be somewhat louder. you’ll be able to hear more turbo whistle, but it’s still gonna be quiet due to the huge mufflers on the stock exhaust
@@cedricwillis493 of course man, thanks for checking out the videos! tunes vary in price depending on who you decide to get tuned by, i’d say around like $200-$300ish on the low side
@@JaydonWong are you serious? But it does was for stopping the drone? I hear many say they get a j pipe because they want the drone gone... And how much is it?
i'm running a pro tune right now. OTS tunes are okay for the time being, but i suggest that you get a pro tune as soon as you can after installing a J-pipe. OTS tunes are pretty much designed for COBB products, so if you get another branded jpipe i suggest a pro tune. But regardless pro tunes are better 👍
Hey man, what about in the terms of reliability? I've been wanting a J-Pipe for months now (for the sound) but I am too scared to pull the trigger as I'm scared of blowing a rod in the engine. I would use a reputable tuner and make sure it's done correctly, though is there still a high risk of blowing your engine even with a good tune due to the power gains? Would I still be able to run the J-pipe later on years in the future? Edit: I also use my car on a daily basis
In terms of reliability, you have nothing to worry about. Especially if you're scared of blowing a rod, there's nothing to worry about. The chances of blowing a rod a very low unless you're constantly pushing the car to it's limits. In order to get the most out of your j-pipe, make sure you go with some great reputable brands. I'd suggest, COBB or Grimmspeed. I was going down the same route with purchasing a J-pipe; mainly for the sounds, and the power gains were just a +1 for me. But in all, you should have nothing to worry about in terms of damaging your engine as long as you're not abusing the car constantly. I'll be uploading a video very soon of my 1 year with the WRX and I'll be highlighting all the ups and downs with modding over the course of this year
on these cars they’re referred to as either j-pipe/downpipe. the j-pipe is the downpipe since it comes out sideways, they literally do the same thing besides having the same name. look up downpipe for 2015-2021 wrx, all you’ll find is j-pipes referred to as downpipes
Actually my understanding is that a J Pipe is actually a J shaped piped that is welded onto the exhaust the reduce/eliminate drone.
Hey bro! I have a j pipe coming in few days. Is there an OTS tune for exhaust and j pipe? Or is it only pro tune for j pipe.
Yeah there’s an OTS tune for j-pipes! It falls under the stage 2 category under all the OTS maps. Exhausts don’t really require tuning for the car, and won’t really effect the reliability of it. such a good video, but bro, u need to test the car sounds for us
thanks man! yeah i didn't compare sounds in this video, but i do have another video on my channel that compares sounds
I want a tomei setup...
Down pipe, cat back and ulh !
What do you think?
Yo where did you get the jpipe? I cant find a retailer that will ship to cali. Also, do you have any clips of the jpipe with a stock cat/axleback ? You only showed it with the remark and r400
Wait what about a jpipe welded to ur exhaust pipe near the front pipe? Not the down pipe?
Thanks for the video. I got a prodrive axle back on my 02 wrx. It’s kind of too quiet for me. I want a more deeper rumble. Does the car stink with a Dp? Heard it’ll smell like gas.
yea regardless its gonna smell more, even if you're catted

@@JaydonWong thanks for the response. Definitely going e-tune or pro tune route. Just want to do the jpipe for sound and some more power.
I’m running an Invidia N1 race cat-back exhaust and would like to get a j-pipe, but not sure what to run, any suggestions?
In my opinion, Invidia, Perrin, and MAPerformanc are all solid

the only other tuners i know are down south in san diego, or like vista
Can you put a j pipe on a automatic wrx
yeah you should be able to, i dont see why not
Any cel since installing it? Im in the market for one.
no cel, as long as you get a proper tune for it
Hey man! Have you also been scraping your intermediate pipe from time to time?
thanks for checking out the video! but yeah from time to time I do end up scraping it. I mainly end up scraping it when i'm going over large speedbumps, other than that i clears pretty much everthing
what happens when you install straight pipe without a single tune?
Don’t do it lol need a tune for any mod but a Catback on these wrxs. Playing with fire with no tune.
yeah definitely agree with @unrulybill . if you're referring to a complete straight pipe (turbo to exhaust), you'll definitely need a tune. if you're going from the cat and back, you'll be fine. if you do any power related mods on these cars you're going to need a tune, every little mod regarding power is sensitive to the car so you need to tune for that.
@@JaydonWong yea that’s what I figured when he said straight pipe was a j pipe back
in Cali is it illegal to change the J pipe
yeah its illegal
It is a tune required for this J pipe ?
yeah you're gonna need a tune when you run a j-pipe
Yo I got a catted j pipe on my wrx and muffler delete and I have like weird cabin pressure that kills my ears have you experienced that know anything about it
personally i’ve never experienced any cabin pressure at all, it might just be you. i’ve never had that happen
Hey mate I got 2015 wrx CVT tho. Installed R400 yes it is quite. Will I get a deeper tone if I remove the resonator in midpipe and the cat from the stock Jpipe?
I wouldn’t say you’d be able to get a deeper tone (maybe), but you most definitely will be able to get WAY more sound out of your r400
do catback exhaust systems come with j pipe?
no, j-pipes are sold separately
Hey man so how much louder will a j pipe with stock catback be.
so with the stock exhaust and a aftermarket jpipe, it’ll be somewhat louder. you’ll be able to hear more turbo whistle, but it’s still gonna be quiet due to the huge mufflers on the stock exhaust
cobb cat back and axelback is way better for drone control than the r400 and sound quality but then again its all personal opinion
they're most definitely top tier exhausts 😍
If I added a jpipe is it necessary to delete my high flow resonator I want the deep sound of my super 10 flowmaster without that drone like on highway
you're good! you wouldn't need to remove your high flow resonator. just remember to get tuned after you install it 👍

nah the j-pipe does a lot more! power increase, better airflow, sound, etc.
