Good stuff man! Just wondering if you ever used a centering tool for cards or would recommend using one as a beginner? Guessing the more you grade the better you can eyeball the centering. Also do you get most of your cards at shows where you can look them over in person? I like looking on Ebay but realize I could miss scratches or defects based on the angles/lighting people use.

I did use one when I first started! May be helpful until you can start to eyeball it without one.
I mostly get the cards shown on eBay or comc. With having a newborn I haven’t been able to make it to as many shows lately. I always assumed 30% of the cards I buy may not be gradable. Online I heavily focus on centering and edges/corners because that’s what can be easily seen from photos. Hope this helps!

I'm going to guess the Barry gets a 6 if that "warp" is not just some reflection with the light. I've had a couple of those type look great and come back 5/6s and then would take me awhile to find the why. Great cards and excited to see the results!

Cool video and info! Do you cut your sleeves on the sides?

I do not, but I have seen others do that! It definitely can be helpful if you are more comfortable with the putting the cards in the sleeves like that.

The graders are using magnification, so you should be using it too. There are so many cards that look great to the naked eye, but once you see them with magnification you notice imperfections. Microscopic edge chipping, especially on white border cards is a common one. Many times I've noticed little particles of whatever stuck to cards that you can't see with the eye and they need to be picked off because just wiping it doesn't work. You've probably gotten lower grades on cards that could've had easy fixes if you just used a magnifying glass.

Good tip Thanks! This may actually be exactly why I've gotten random 5s/6s on on white bordered (particularily topps) cards.

@@carlsoncards Yes, Topps is notorious for having edge chipping. Especially around the mid 2010's era. I've been planning on making a video about this on my other channel but haven't gotten around to it.

@@Sandman60077 Yes, it's good to use painter's tape to remove those rough edges from a miscut.
